If I purchase a game on Steam, is there a way to get the install CDs? I like having a local copy for installation since downloads can take a long time.

Downloading updates is fine through Steam, but full games can be as large as 2 GBs.

Can't you preorder it at your local retail games outlet? I thought L4D2 was retail as well...

Can you not just let it run over night?
Burn the game content onto a disk after you get it the first time. Patches a imminent, though.

Not everyone has huge download quotas that can accommodate games.

I didn't know retail shops were offering preorders at this time. I'll look into it. Thanks.

Just make a backup of your game, the Steam backup assistant offers you the possibility to split the game data in CD sized parts.
