not by valve, but by someone I played with on xbox live. He said that he got to use the chainsaw. I've played the demo about 6 times now, still no chainsaw or anything new that I didn't see in the first run-through I had with the game.

Was this guy lying to me or has anyone else used the chainsaw yet?

Definitely a lie.. Never seen the Chainsaw, and I've played around 30 times through now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the demo only has the machete, guitar, tonfa, and frying pan. I've played lots, and I've yet to see the chainsaw.

In the demo I've found:

Melee:
Night stick - spawned and lootable off riot zombies
Machete - spawned
Guitar - spawned
Frying pan - spawned (almost everywhere)

T1 spray:
Uzi - slightly more max accuracy
Silenced SMG - pretty sure suppressor has no effect

T1 shotty:
Pump shotgun - Wider pellet spread
Chrome shotgun - Tighter pellet spread

T2 assault rifles:
SCAR-L - 3 round burst with fast refire rate.
M16 - VERY high max accuracy
Ak-47 - 40 bullet magazines, may be somewhat slower rate of fire, seems stronger per bullet

T2 shotguns:
Default auto shotty - it's default
Spaz - Tighter pellet spread

Snipers:
Hunting rifle - seems unchanged, still maintains it's painfully slow reload speed :(
30 round sniper - may be slightly weaker than the hunting rifle, has a slow reload, single round fire makes the 30 bullets last quite a while.

Throwables:
Molotov - fire looks prettier
Pipe bombs - ragdolls lag when used on huge hordes
Boomer Bile Bombs - Usable on any enemy, survivors (self included) are uneffected. Spawns a CI horde to mob at the impact site after any effected enemies are dispatched. Uneffective against witches.

Minor aids:
Pills - heals more than adrenaline and can be used much quicker.
Adrenaline - zombie attacks don't slow you but you can't pass through zombies. Shoving zombies doesn't have a cooldown while under the effect. Move speed is slightly increased, and you have no move speed penalty for being under 40 health even if the adrenaline doesn't heal you above 40, as long as you're under the effect of the adrenaline (effect visible on sight)

Extra:
Med packs - Same
Defibrillator - Revives any dead ally, takes about 3 seconds to use. There is no apparent time limit on reviving a dead player. Revived players stand back up with 50 "permenant" health (it doesn't bleed away like health from pills/adren) and can presumably be incapped twice before death (like normal).

Environmental objects:
Jerrycan - Gas can's from L4D1, they look the same and work the same way, only 1 found in demo so far, 100% spawn chance at same area every time.

Maybe I found mine in a different spot, in the area before the alarm event, up on the hill is where I find mine, but it's not there very often. Yet that's the only place I can ever find it.

I think the PC types have looked into what's available in the demo and found no chainsaw.

You were lied to, IMO.
