Sup Steam community and administrators, this is unR | BeaSt.
My Counter Strike: Source has been working great until yesterday. I was messing with the graphic settings under the options, and i put the resolution at 1600 by 900, with a Widescreen 6:9 ratio just to see how it would look. To my disapointment, it was a fail sauce. So i tried to put it on a Widescreen 6:10 ratio, and as soon as i pressed apply, it immediately closed and gave an error. With my luck, i never read the the error, thinking that it was just a critical... which was normal. But then i tried to re-load back up my game, and it went to a sideways view of the game on my desktop for a split second, and then went black and exited without command. I have tried several times to reopen it, but it keeps doing the same thing.
I might think that the problem exists because of the resolution which i changed. I have tried pretty much everything, other than re-install steam. (Ex. Uninstall/Reinstall, defragment files, validate files, restart my computer, update my drivers on my videocard, and change my autoexec.cfg, and config.cfg).
I bought the game at GameStop, and have the discs for it. I didnt buy it off of steam, but when i install the disc, it lauches it off of steam automatically.
Please help me on my problem if you can. Source is my life, and i cant live without it. =P

- Thanks alot

Have you tried the "autoconfig" command?

The -autoconfig launch option will allow Steam to configure a Valve/Source game with the best settings for use on your machine.

1. Open Steam
2. Go to the "My Games" tab
3. Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured
4. Select "Properties" from the menu
5. Click the "Set launch options..." button
6. Add -autoconfig at the end of the line, be sure to include a space before the " - " and anything before it.

No problem, make sure you remove the -autoconfig from the advance lauch options once you are finished, or else it will reset your video settings EVERYTIME you launch the game. ;)

This worked for me last time this happened to me, But this time it's just not working. I've tried every possible option that's posted online, Updated drivers, Verified Integrity, Defragged, Reinstalled Steam, and CSS. Tried deleted/renaming ClientRegistry.blob -safe,-autoconfig,-window
So many launch option commands. Anyone else have any ideas? It happened right after I installed and played CSPromod but I uninstalled that and steam and it's still not working.
