So ive just purchased Borderlands, but as soon as i load it up the screen goes blank and all i can hear is the intro sounds.
Ive just updated my Catalyst drivers to 9.10.
I'm on Windows 7 64 bit, any ideas?

more than enough to handle it... hrm.. do you get this problem with any other games?
Try disabling the videos as well

To disable ALL movies:
----------------------
This can be done in order to skip the prologue when starting a new game. However, this is a drastic measure since it apparently kills all movies! Cutscenes, loading screens, etc. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Within your shortcut for Borderlands, right-click -> properties. Within the shortcut line, add this parameter AFTER the link to your Borderlands exe file:
-nomoviestartup
E.G:
C:\Program Files\Borderlands\binaries\Borderlands.exe -nomoviestartup
Try that from Borderlands forum :) see if the game runs fine after that

If I'm not mistaken, the game is trying to play a different resolution of intro video than it has available.
Try going to the WillowEngine.ini file located under My Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config -- and searching for and X and Y line somewhere near the top, denoting the resolution, and try changing that.
Or, disable the intro videos in the same ini file by placing a semicolon ( ; ) infront of each of the Startup vid lines near the bottom.
Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm not on the computer that has Borderlands on it right now :(

It's fixed itself once the intros passed

I am getting this same issue after a new gpu and updated drivers. It seems like the game is forcing itself into 640x480 and messing up the intros. Aint looked yet how to rectify.

Rhett is right go to
My Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config and click on willowengine.ini
and about 3/4 of the way down you should find [SystemSettings]
under that section should be a resX and resY, just put in a screen resolution that you can use, I did 1024x768
this fixed my black screen problem

I've tried that and many other things, like updated drivers and such, but nothing has worked can anyone think of anything else?
My Specs:

I got the same problem. tried installing new PhysX Version, Microsoft C++, disabling the intro movies, changing the start resolution of the game, run as admin, etc, but nothing of that worked.
Another strange thing I noticed: When I shut down Borderlands via Task Manager I don`t have any sound, so I have to restart my computer...

nope. doesn't work for me.
rhett's solution got me working intro videos, but nothing happens after they're over.
edit:\\ okay, i fixed it for me. i deleted the gearbox_logo.bik, nvidia.bik and 2k_logo.bik in the steamapps\common\borderlands\willowgame\movies folder.
