problem with steam

I can't access any games on steam, or see my friend's list, etc. I can log on, but whenever I try to click on the games tab, community tab, etc, it keeps giving me an error and freezes up, followed by disconnection from steam. Also, the outlines are all gone o.o by that I mean the outlines on the tabs, and the icons at the bottom of the steam window is also gone, and a bunch of other weird things. What's the problem??

What kind of error are you receiving?

I get hardly any replies on the help forum. also, it just disconnects and freezes, no "type" of error or anything. I just click on the games tab, it freezes up, and I have to Ctrl + alt + del and close it.

EDIT: nvm I'll ask on the help/tips forum instead :)
