This game is still broke. It must still be in Alpha stage of development or an early Beta. I'm very surprised that Steam did not check this game over a bit more before allowing Ubisoft to post it. My computer is not the fastest in the world but it plays all the other games I've thrown at it quite well (Half-Life 2, Railworks, TRS-2009, Left 4 Dead, tons of others). The problem with this game is obviously in the rendering engine or the chess engine itself taking 100% high priority processing and leaving nothing for the operating system or any other process to do anything. Not even run the game's own sound requests get processed. It's so bad, that you can't even move the mouse but only 1 tenth of second every 2 seconds.

If this issue is not fixed in a week or so, I'll be getting my money back.

I guess this is getting to be the way these companies are wanting to sell us this stuff. Just throw something together and hope for the best. They're getting too cheap to put some testers on the project to verify it actually works.

Steam needs to take serious action against the culprits of such lousy workmanship. Because, it tarnishes their reputation and workmanship to allow such a buggy program to be sold on their system. Now I wonder if the NEXT game I buy from Steam will have issues too? Is this going to be a common occurrence?

Umm are you playing Grandmaster Edition? If so what is your processor video card and ram? You need to specify before going on a rant.

I'm using a q6600 2.4ghz quadcore with 4gb ram and Nvidia 8800GT. Maybe we can help you?

You're right though that steam doesn't check what's being sold and so there is some shovelware that doesn't even work on some systems a steam game should on. With this game though perhaps we can help? games should use as much processor as is available when they work, otherwise it's just wasted power that could be going to higher FPS, faster turns, etc. but it sounds like you have a technical problem.

I'm running the game under Windows 7 with only minor issues. Maybe there's something else going on?

My original post was from a year ago. Since then I've gotten another computer to run my games on. The game seems to be functioning ok now. Probably because my old computer has XP and a video card that didn't support the latest Direct-X.
