Its average really. Nothing special. The graphics are rather dated and the production values are lacking. If it was 50% cheaper it would be a more realistic price.

I find it, ok. I played a bit and battling seems a little bit slow, but I think if I play more it because nice. But I suggest you Dungeon Siege I/II, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, Diablo more. This is an non-hyped, non-famous game.

Check out these user comments. They seem to think it is pretty good and they are hardcore RPG players.

One thing though, it is pausable combat like in Balder's Gate etc. and not action combat as the game description is describing. I much prefer pausable combat in RPG and hate this move towards FPS action style of combat in RPG. In fact, I would prefer turn based combat in RPG if I was given a choice but it seems many of today's game generation want fast and furious and don't want to spend time thinking about combat choices in chess like manner.

It starts really slow and combats tend to take forever, hitting and hitting and hitting again... and healing and healing and drink potions... And it went like this - for me, as every player plays differently and I just completely mismanaged the direction my main character should take! - for hours and hours. I was about to give up but... I noticed the skill tree showed lots of promise: it had skills/spells/perks I had not seen in any other RPG game (as mostly follow a D&D rules convention, which is great in a manner but completely constrictive in another) and some of them sounded really cool and powerful, others I had no idea of what they did and was very curious. Also, the story was driving me forward, as it is misterious and let lots of questions hanging in the air... so I continued...

And suddenly, after getting more party members and balance the party skills and behaviour, the game really blossomed! The skills were even more amazing than I expected, and even if some combats are still difficult, I can feel the power my team has, and its outstandingly powerful is managed correctly. The skills are also mesmerizing at times, and lethal if used correctly. Characters can evolve in a surprising manner and it is full of good ideas (I really love the attack speed of one of the characters, she hits about 20 times faster than my "tank"), like the fact of the main character can be uberpowerful managing to be a master of all skills and then some!

So, in short, it starts slow and is very frustrating... then it picks up and gets engaging.

On a side note, I read somewhere someone complaining about lack of gold... well, I always follow the principle that any weapon/armor worth using is something you find (either in loot, treasure or quest) and so I usually don't even peek at merchand's stuff... As a result, I have more than one million in gold and have no idea of what to do with it!

I bought it yesterday because it is only $14.99. Most certainly worth that price and seems a decent old school RPG. I haven't played long enough though to say if it is really buggy or anything yet but it seems stable for me.
I've certainly spent more on worse RPGs and at $14.99 it is a steal.

Milkweg, you mind posting some updated impressions in a few days once you get some more playtime? For instance, how would you say the overall polish of the game is, how's the translation, or overall story/quest content. The combat from what I understand is pause & play kind of like Baldur's Gate, how would you say it compares to it? Or if you haven't played Baldur's Gate, what would you compare the combat closest to. Or if you have any other thoughts that stand out about the game for good or bad.

I've been trying to get some information about this game as well, but it seems almost non-existent. Even the 1C publisher forum only has about 10 threads about the game...

OK, will do but I haven't played it since yesterday yet. I played it for a couple of hours yesterday though so have done quite a bit of combat. I have both Baldur's Gate and BG2 w/add-ons so know that system well. The combat system is very similar in Farewell to Dragons and you even have the pause options that you can change. I set pause on see enemy but that isn't the default setting, just my preference. This is mulit-party RPG too and I have 2 others currently in my party. Your main character is pre-set but you can customize abilities as you go along and get points to boost/lower skills you choose. Magic is big in this game too.

Sorry, still haven't been back in the game yet because I have been busy buying and trying more Steam games. Yesterday I bought Dead Space and today I bought King Arthur and Jade Empire. I can see downloading those two are going to be a painful process because both games together is over 12GB of data and I am only getting a lousy 225kb/s download speed right now. I will try to spend more time in AFtD tomorow and post more comments on it. If you go to the 1C forums there are some useful comments on it.

I liked it but I was disappointed by the ending. There are a couple of other things like not being able to complete the final dialogs and not working on my dual-monitor configuration - I had to disconnect the second monitor to be able to start the game (I have ATI 4770 card). Yet I enjoyed the game and for $15 it is a steal.

When you say you had to disconnect the monitor, did you have to do it physically by disconnecting the monitor from the graphics cards or remove the graphics card or simply choose to NOT extend your desktop onto the second monitor? I have three monitors and cannot start the game if I simply disable the monitors using the monitor setup software (both through Windows 7 or the Nvidia Control panel). I'm just wondering how you managed to do it. Thanks.

I picked this game up from D2D DRM free for $7.50 this past weekend. And it seems like a decent RPG. It does feel like Baulder's Gate. I only played for a short amount of time but it has quirks to it that I kind of dislike like the interface. For example you press and hold the middle mouse to rotate the view but if you move the mouse too far left or right it moves the screen which drives me a bit nuts. It's really too early to say anything regarding the story or game play but so far I like it though I feel quite underpowered at the moment but I am only level 4. I got jumped by some level 5 mages and well my party and I were dead pretty quick. But for the $7.50 I paid for the game it was well worth it and DRM and also steam DRM free :).

No, don't even think to buy it!

It's not that bad. However I don't think 1c is really supporting the game anymore so I would likely skip on the purchase. They no longer have the board on their forums visible with the rest, you have to search around to find it.

Up until the end it's enjoyable but I heard the ending is terrible and broken if you don't get the .pak file. My big problem with games like these with a low budget is there are so many quality games I have. Sorry but when I look at my steam list they always win over these sorts of games.

The game is good if you like a classic rpg along the line as Baldurs Gate, Fallout one and two etc. If your after fancy graphics and real time action its not for you. Its a special kind of game and the skills and perks are great and I am certainly enjoying it! People should buy more of these kind of games and developers should make more and publishers should support more.

its a great game. Its like Baldurs gate etc in many ways. Worth playing without a doubt. The story is good and the gameplay is too.

Pretty average but entertaining. If you want something different,
you could buy it. Diablo 3 Guide (http://diablo3guideinferno.com/)
