Time to send Gift?

I was planning on gifting a game to a friend and I was wondering:

Once I purchase the game as a gift, do I have to send it right away or can I purchase the game and send it later with a message? And if later, is there a time limit?

You can just send it to your email and then just forward to them when you want (includes a message too).
