Is this game worth $10? It got horrible reviews on Gamespot for the xbox360...just wondering what you guys thought. :)

However, I do LOVE Star Trek soooooo....

I beleive this is NOT quite the same game, as was released originally for the xbox360. as it has more content, (more ships, maps, modes, pick-ups, weapons etc etc...)

Personally ? It is worth it for the opening scene of the Enterprise NCC-1701 "warping" onto my PC screen, especially as it has the sound effect from the film, from the part where Sulu "warps" into Jupiters Rings !

Depends on the the reviews. If they are from the editors, they are wrong. If they were from players, they were really wrong.

Just a heads up that the 360 version will get a free update in the very near future that gives it all the new maps, ships, etc as seen in the PC version.

I enjoy this game very much. It's fast and furious (without cars and Vin Diesel). The only thing holding this game back right now is the number of people playing it. As the online games are sometimes sparse.

Overall I think it's a lot of fun and I made a video review which should help sales a bit and hopefully give me more people to play with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUVCqijbsPs

Oh and Mr. Krab. You guys need to do something about ingame communication. Some games someone has their mic on and it just creates static for the whole game (well it would if I didn't leave those games right away) and other than that there's no texting? So if someone's mic is on there's no way to tell them?

I agree with this. We need a way to communicate in game and the static is annoying. I like the game very much overall.
In fact if I'm reading it correctly it looks like I'm currently ranked number 1 in vs tdm. if I'm reading it correctly. ;)

It's pretty boring after a while. Only 2 races, pretty boring ships and it seems unbalanced...

I don't know, but everytime I play the game, the federation is the winner :)
The romulan fighter is not usable, because I cannot see the cross hair and the federation flagship feels like it's a bit stronger than the romulan.

long-term fun is not really given.

Its okay.

Play it, its fun for awhile. All i can say is that its definately unbalanced.

I would say im a fairly skilled player. In one game, with the same people, i was federation. Topped the scoreboard by a long shot, with my cruiser. So romulans needed a hand.

I switched over. The romulan flagship felt incredably weak in comparison! The cruiser was able to take more hits than i was, and fire faster...and the romulan pickups were very weak.

Cloak? Useless in this game. Holobomb? Never seen anyone hit by it...etc.

All in all, i love playing federation but it seems way too unbalanced.

I would dearly love to see a mod team pick this game up and make it into something brilliant. The graphics are nice, so if a mod team made it so we have 'real' fed ships in a battle that'd be epic.

On a sidenote, if the devs intend for this to get some long-life, add some DLC...

Heck, put in Wolf 359 as a co-op battle :P and give people a choice to play any of the fed ships that were present. Bet that'd get some awesome reviews ;)

Yes, there seems to be an issue with VOIP. We are working on the fix!

The romulan fighter is not usable, because I cannot see the cross hair and the federation flagship feels like it's a bit stronger than the romulan.

We are also working on a fix for the reticle issue. I can assure you the damage values for each side (fed vs rom) are exactly the same across all ship classes :)

Its okay.

Cloak? Useless in this game.

All in all, i love playing federation but it seems way too unbalanced.

Have you tried staying in cloak w/ the Cruiser or Bomber and emerging out of the blue and ambushing someone? It can be really deadly.

I think we need to get a developer vs community game going. We'll play Romulan and show you the balance swings both ways ;)

Perhaps...

Yes, i have. I unloacked with a charged missle, dented its shield. It turned around and one-hit killed me :]

I guess its just the feel. Everytime i try romulans they just feel weaker and i never seem to perform as well.

mr. krab I would love to fight in a developer vs. community game. I just started playing this today and it's awesome! We just need more people in it. The versus match I played in was just me vs. one other person and the co-op was a group of five. I would be great it it were advertised in the Star Trek DVDs/Blu-Rays. On a side note when I play on the computer can I play against Xbox users or not? I'm very new to online gaming, I've mainly done single player games/LAN parties.

Edit: Never mind, just saw the Multiplayer thread from earlier, too bad it's only same system.

Thanks for the kind words. Agreed about wanting more people! Hopefully the word spreads and we can get more people playing.

You're very welcome mr. krab. I was wondering what sorts of marketing are being used to push ST.DAC (If there's a different acronym you use please let me know) now that it's on the PC. The most I've seen was a Steam update and it being on the front page of steampowered.com recently, but that's not going to last.

Not to speak for mr. krab, but one major piece of marketing for the game that I know of is a demo version of the game, which will be included as a bonus feature on the DVD release of the movie (which comes out tomorrow, the 17th). I'm not sure if the demo will be available elsewhere, but I'm sure that a lot of people who buy the DVD will be exposed to it that way. :)

...is this anything like netrek for those that played it? I saw some of the gameplay and it reminds me a lot of that. I played that off and on for years and years... haven't in a long time, though I bet it's still going.

Well I want my money back, iv not been able to play much of it as it has a bug or 3 but what i have played reminds me of astroids, which was great for a 486 but here in the 21st centery I cant believe this game has a community but yet games like Legacy have no community and that game was awesome, felt like being in a ship in space actual 3D unlike this star trek version of astriods, maybe one day they will fix the problems it has and I will be able to see why the heck people are actually play this

Well to start out with, Asteroids has been, still is, and will continue to be an awesome game. And sure there are some similarities between this and Asteroids, but the the differences are plentiful and immensely fun. Being someone who grew up watch Star Trek, playing Asteroids, and enjoying a good, cheap game this is great. I need a game like this where I can drop in for 5-10 minutes, get a good full experience and get out. It's a needed distraction from work every now and then but I can't stay away too long. Sure a story would be nice, some sort of single player campaign, a whole 3D experience would be awesome, but if you want that play STO when it comes out. Arcade games are fantastic fun.

This game is only $10. You can do a LOT worse than spend $10 on a game. Try COD MW2 for $60, then see where your money went. And as the above poster said, arcade games are a LOT of fun. Maybe this generation of gamers has been dumbed down by endless team based gun shooters (starting with CS, and the # of different variations of "plant/disarm the bomb"), and simply doesn't remember what games like Ms. Pac man, Magic Sword, Shadows over Mystara, and so on, did for the quick entertainment factor.

There's a difference between paying $60 for MW2 (which is just a souped up MW without dedicated servers) and paying $70 for Dragon Age Deluxe. With Dragon Age, you get a REAL party based RPG with a deep story, and the extra $20 gives you extra useful content, and knowing you're supporting a company that actually worked hard to make a good *PC* version of the game, not just a console port.

Now I will say that not everyone likes arcade games, but that's what happens when you start no-lifing in slow team based shooters all day to become semi pro ;)

The game is a fun little blaster, Naked Sky have done a nice little blaster, the survival mode keeps you aiming higher with its star fleet ranks to gain. Which makes it slightly unique to most other survival arcade shooters. The survival mode is also very challenging which means you won't be getting to Admiral until your a damn good player of the game.

The other modes Team Deathmatch and Versus pretty straight forward, would'nt say super special as such as I am sure this has been done before. However the modes like Conquest bring a similar style of gameplay familiar to Unreal Tournament players through Onslaught into the top down arcade space shooter genre.

Lets look at the wider picture too why spend $10 on this game, well $10 isn't a super lot of money for the hours of fun you are getting I have got about 6 hours gameplay since I bought this game which means its current value to me is about $1.65 per hour and getting lower of course. When you purchase a game the price you pay is relative to the time you spend playing it. This game will keep you entertained for hours. However I have constantly been bombarded by a repeating genre which are modern warfare games... yeah they used to be fun but now a little.... samey so I prefer the fact I spent a little for this game and avoided purchasing Modern Warfare 2. Which I am surprised kicked off given the fact the multiplayer is bound to be a laggy piece of crap with no ded servers.

Not worth it if they paid YOU $10 to play. This game wont load or run on Win 64bit WinXp, so it is useless to me. The game employs a p2p console match making system, that simply doesnt belong on the PC. This game is absolutely horrible. If you want to play a game that has very few people, and lags to hell and back, then this is a good one to have. If this is not what you are looking for, then avoid this game like the plague that it is.

I think Im going to create a "Game Hall of Shame" on my site. It gets lots of traffic, and will allow me to bash games like this, that could have been great, but the devs dropped the ball by porting a console game to PC, and trying to make PC players play like they are on a damn console.

Game is fun and fast. It's a great way to kill 10 minutes. I use Windows XP and it loads/works fine.

And the online matches are always instant.

This game? Fun to keep going back to. Like asteroids, its addictive.

Legacy? HAH. That game was pathetic, it was so broken and bugged at launch, Nobody plays legacy because Legacy sucks. Not only does it never work, but multiplayer could never be played.

You obviously do not understand what peer to peer is. Peer to peer works for small games, it works for RTS and other such games that do NOT require dedicated servers.

Its an annoyance, but it works. It does not create lag on such games, similarly it doesn't lag here for me. I have played extensively and had great fun, no multiplayer game has lagged, survival mode is intense, and offline works great.

Legacy...
What was that... '06?
That was the most disappointing game of that year for me and one of the few games I've dropped $50 near it's initial release (I'm sort'a cheap).
Even after the Ultimate Universe mods... it's still crap compared to Bridge Commander when it comes to gameplay/fun, despite superior graphics.
The online community is non-existant. The MP itself is a broken mess which was never addressed.
StarFleet Command 3 has more of an online community.
The only thing worse that Legacy is Shattered Universe in the last 5 years. And it was Baaaad.

IT IS NOT WORTH $10.

This game is severly underdeveloped and WILL NOT WORK on many systems, even though they meet the listed requirements. There is NO SOUND on my system and many other users report similar problems, including random crashes and freezes, even though their systems meet the requirements.

Well, I did go ahead and buy it mainly because I am a huge Star Trek fan...it works fine for me without any problems. I am sorry you have issues...they should always release demos on this ♥♥♥♥, I hate when game developers/publishers decide no to. It's like expecting us to buy a car without test driving...unheard of.

Come on devs!!! Get off your lazy arses and make the ppl some demos!

There is a demo of DAC available at steam! So, you could have checked it out before buying the game. Of course, it is not good if people cannot play the game, but coding/publishing for PC is much more complicated than for consoles. Even if your system meets the requirements, there can also be othere issues with your PC (bad/old drivers etc.) that keeps the game from running or playing sound. So dagamoor, instead of saying that this game is unplayable (well, even if it has no sound it is playable :-)) for so many people (which you can't know exactly - you don't know how much can play very well as most just the people with broken games complaining here), try to be sure that your system is update and everything. Thanks. :-/

I think this is totally worth my money,..
LOVE Star Trek Love the game so far.
But I do need some guidance where can I go to get more info about the game. Cuz the game it's self only provides the basic control functions. I don't have a controller just my mouse and keyboard, I just need help from someone.
Thanks :D
