Really is needed, because when you open up steam chat to talk to them, you can't see what's happening and after you quit the chat, you still have to 'Resume Game'
It's incredibly hard to have teamwork without a Mic.
Please implement this.
Ps - Don't want flamers saying "get a mic then"
Console gamers have no problem and no complaints about getting mics. So why should you? It's pretty much a standard now in online gaming WHATEVER platform you're on. There's simply no excuse. You're not being asked to buy an expensive video card here. Can you afford ear phones for your MP3 player? Then you can afford a mic. 'Nuff said.

I just bought one for 15 dollars at target, its really not a big deal. Plus chatting via text would just get you type-killed.

$10 for a mic at radioshack. Got a Logitech headset however connected via USB and works 10 times better than the radio shack one.
To the thread starter, if you can't afford $10 then you're probably not old enough to play this game dude.

They should at least make it so you can use voice chat in the game and not have to talk over steams ♥♥♥♥ty voice chat. :o

There's no need to have that condescending attitude here mate, if you haven't anything constructive to say you can shut your trap. I asked specifically for you to not refer to 'getting a mic' so if you really are that ignorant and immature, you shouldn't be playing this game.

Why spend another $15 on this game, No text chat is a result of lazy porting.

Yesterday when I played Spec Ops it had the voice options greyed out and could not be edited. I could not use my mic.

i think they should implement a chat in the gamelobby during the wait for the next game...
i am always impelled to eat some snack during that minute to the next round due to boredom, i am getting really fat! maybe i can sue Activision/IW for my first myocardial infarction in 2 years... :D

Oh, I didnt realize that you would only need a mic for just this ONE game and not other online games. I guess people spent an extra $600 on a video card just to play Crysis and NOTHING ELSE.

WTF is your problem? One, they have text chat in MP, so why not Spec Ops? And two, just because console gamers have to deal with it, why do PC gamers? WE HAVE A KEYBOARD FOR A REASON, and not just WASD. I'm sick of people like you justifying this XBOX 360 port of a game. And console gamers have no problem because they don't really have any other choice do they?

Okay can we get off the Mic Vs Typing argument? I started this thread because I believe it's an easy change to make, but then again so is implementing dedicated servers. So I don't know why some revived this thread.
IW will never listen to anyone. Not anyone in the PC community anyway. They don't care.

Uhm...there is a chat in spec ops. It's called SHIFT+TAB, type message, hit enter. It's not like you're talking to multiple, random unknown persons at once, people you play S.O. with should be your STEAM FRIENDS.
But I wholeheartedly agree, we need a damned chat in the lobby!

Psh, why spend another $15 to buy a mouse for a videogame? You don't use mice for anything but MW2. Oh, that money you spent on a DVD drive? What a waste.

Yeah, next your going to be saying that "Why not spend another $10 to pay for DLC that was already included in the game, but locked".

Funny jump of logic you made there. I guess MW2: DLC is just like a mouse and headset, usable in a variety of applications

For some people, Modern Warfare 2 is all they would be using a headset for. The point is, don't include chat in one portion of your multiplayer game, and not the other. Have some consistency.

I would say:
You do not have to use mic, but I would say:
I recommend you a mic!
Why?
In SpecOps and MP it's very efficient talking to each other about where the enemy is, reloading, pinned down, back up- chopper etc..
SpecOps can get very fast and furious and typing just might get you killed.
You can use your earphones as a mic too- ♥♥♥♥ty way, but still helps.
For talking you can use Skype or gTalk (I use the GTalk). I just don't think they will have chat in SpecOps at any time. They considered that two friends will have other ways of chatting.

I'm not saying don't use a mic, because it does help. But for those that don't, text chat should be an option. It's still faster than using Steam chat.

I won't argue with that... better in game than out game, for sure.

WHY don't they use a mic? WHY? Other than not being old enough to by one themselves, give me one other good reason WHY these players don't use a mic?

It's like requesting VHS because you don't have a standard DVD player...
Mic's have been the standard in PC gaming since before consoles even went on-line. Seriously. I feel sorry for whoever you're playing with. They're going to be getting shot at and killed as you type crap.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but:
I really want to chat with a team mate in SpecOps, especially when he does not happen to have a mic (I do have one)
Steam chat just doesn't cut it.

Agreed. It's really annoying, even though I got used to quick-chatting since I love Spec Ops.
shift+tab
quickly type the message
enter

there is no "Standards" in pc gaming. everyone has different style of play and their way of chatting ingame. personally i dont use mics even i got one on my desk. and i disable voice chats. people just fken spam the mic in every match i cant even hear footsteps:o its a game, for you to control and shoot, not to spam the mic telling everyone what to do

This kind of thinking got us player hosts, priced DLC's and more ♥♥♥♥ from IW, thats why we don't follow the standards.
If someone chooses not to use voice, let him/her, some might be shy over their accent, some might just be in a place where they just can not speak out loud.
There are hundreds of reasons, type-chat is always handy to have.
