Patch Announced

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys,
I want to announce that there is going to be another patch for NBA 2K10 on XBOX 360 and PS3 (The future PC patch will be a combination of the two). It will address several areas users have raised concerns about, including some of the online modes and My Player. There are no further details as to the specifics of the patch at this time but development on the patch is underway. With the built in times for development and approvals, we are not expecting this next game update until January. Further details will be announced as they become available. Thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Ronnie

NBA 2K10 Patch Notes for January

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The patch is in the submissions stage. I am sure the holidays not help clear the queue in front of us but know that the patch is submitted and it should be a matter of a couple weeks. The PC patch is still in creation but will be a combination of this and the first patch. I will update this thread with an exact release date for PS3, 360, and PC when I have more info. Thanks for your continued patience.

GENERAL
- When using the Living Roster, users can now play standard Quick Games with players who are injured in real life.

- The Dunk Off trophy should now be unlocking when the requirements have been achieved.

- The Upcoming Matchups and Rebounding Leaders overlays should no longer obstruct the camera during NBA Today/My Player play.

- The camera will no longer cut away to the nosebleed cam mid-free throw during NBA Today/My Player play.

- The ‘On-Ball Defense’ column should now properly perform ascending/descending sorts

GAMEPLAY
- Further tuned the assist logic such that the CPU should be more diligent in handing out assists to players.

- Pass accuracy has been toned down for passes out of a double team, passes out of contact shots, and non-inbound full court passes.

- Addressed a rare occurrence where the referee would hold on to the ball and not pass it to the shooter during free throw shooting situations.

- CPU players are now much more selective when choosing to pass the ball while attacking the basket.

- Offensive rebounds are now much tougher to grab following missed free throws.

- When played locked, the CPU will no longer throw a full court pass following a missed shot due to the user rapidly pressing the ‘Y’ button for the rebound.

ONLINE
- Corrected an issue that was causing online NBA Today games to disconnect when a user with his/her console set to North America was playing an opponent who had their console set to Europe/Asia.

- Fixed a Team-Up divergence that occurred when users would rapidly press the ‘Start’ button during the loading screen.

- Addressed a crash in leagues that would occur when the league was using an out of date roster.

- Addressed a divergence in leagues that would occur when the league was using a custom roster and/or had a league size larger than 12 users.

- Fixed a rare occurrence where some users would experience a crash during the ‘Connecting to Host’ dialog.

- Improved connection times when attempting to connect to an opponent.

- Fixed a rare hang on the ‘Closing Match’ dialog that appears at the conclusion of a Team-Up game.

MY PLAYER
- Users who are currently in the Playoffs time period of their seasons will no longer be disconnected from Pick-Up games after the first made basket of the game.

- Addressed an issue where users would occasionally hang (often after winning the Finals MVP) when advancing past the end of the season.

- Found and addressed an instance where cloned players were still being created when users chose to change teams following the Summer Circuit.

- The NBA 2K Insider will no longer incorrectly tell the user he has an important decision to make when a decision doesn’t need to be made.

- Fixed an issue that was causing incorrect game results to be posted to the Standings when the user chose to participate in a drill immediately after a played game.

- Decreased steal success when playing My Player Pick-Up games.

- Addressed an issue that would cause the Finals celebration to occur after the third win of a series when the user finished that game on the bench.

ASSOCIATION
- Users are now able to sign free agents during the season once the player re-signing deadline has passed.

- ‘Recent Games’ scores will no longer be erased when exiting from practice.

- The commentators will no longer refer to players as having scored 0 points when that is not appropriate.

- CPU teams will now trade amongst themselves during 30-team Associations when the user has automated the Player Trading task for all of the teams.

- Fixed an issue that was causing the game to report incorrect ages for 2K Share Draft Class prospects. The prospects will no longer retire after their first season in the league.

- Addressed a rare issue where players would have some of their attributes jump to 99 when they had low morale and/or were on a team with poor team chemistry.

- Addressed a case where players would not show up on the roster once they were signed by a team.

- In Season mode, users are now able to sign players from the free agent list.

- In Season mode, users are now able to trade players without needing to follow salary cap guidelines.

Official? My 360 controller works fine, just the movement of the player in the game I'm not too keen on. Still the best Basketball game I've ever played. With tweaks and a good patch it would be impossible to make a better game

Yeah, buttons 1234 frustrates me. Other than that great game, the glitches are fixed with a time out and running up to the ball handler. At least in my experience.

Just hope I can just play a pick up game online rather than having a season done. At least I don't think that is possible?

Yea, that link doesn't even work for me.......and I am signed into 2k's site and am a long-time member.

However they have targeted January the entire time for PC users, as I scour the 2k10PC Forum on their site quite a bit, and the guy Cliff or whatever the &&&& his name is apart of the 2k10 team, and he gives bits and pieces, and he was RIGHT ON about the 360 and PS3 updates.

And he has said that January is the target.... so let's hope that means January.

Not registered there, but if you don't mind posting a response for me, else I'll register. Answer is no. Matter of fact, the new live roster update actually causes my game to crash. On that note, I haven't played an online game or even successfully had a single person connect to a lobby I've created or connected to any since... November?

Does anyone get these bugs from time to time?
1. "Lets show you the top shot blockers in the league" (sometimes it maybe something else like top scores etc) this won't disappear and when you need to pass the ball you get called for time violation because pressing a button won't remove the leader board or pass the ball into play. So you turn the ball over at no fault of your own.
2. The ref passes the ball to the player to pass the ball into play but the player keeps dropping the ball and keeps giving it back to the ref. The only way you can fix this is by calling a time out (even if its not your ball!!!)
3. Player fatigue. I set the subs to auto and change it from rotation to fatigue but when my players get fatigued they stay on! WTF 2k?

Anyone else have these errors?

Someone over at 2K Sports forum took the effort to compile some official tweets from Ronnie of 2K:
http://2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256826

-> Yesterday: Last info about PC patch:
http://twitter.com/Ronnie2K/status/8288150535
"RT @phenomenas@Ronnie2K will there even be a pc patch ?->As far as I have been led to believe"

Here is the picture I get from that:
He himself does not believe anything anymore he is told about a patch for pc. They lie to him so he can lie to us without a bad conscience. By now I think there probaply never was any pc patch in the making and there will never be one.

They had announced that the pc patch will come out after the console patches. This should have made me suspicious. Because on consoles a patch has to be approved by Microsoft/Sony respectively. And this takes weeks. So they are forced to make fewer and larger updates.
On the pc on the other hand they can just bring a patch whenever they feel it is ready. It doesn't need to be approved by Valve/Steam. And because of this they can make smaller updates more frequently.
It makes no sense that the consoles had two updates and pc none. And this (combined with the compiled statements from Ron) leads me to believe that there never was and never will be any patch for the pc version of NBA 2k10.

I don't exactly like Ubisoft or Electronic Arts, but you can't blame them for NBA 2K10. The NBA 2K series is from 2K Sports which is a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive.

So, basically, this leads to no patch fix for online features? I am kind of new to situations such as these. I guess what I am trying to say is "if they screw around this long putting people off and misleading", there probably wont be a patch? I don't get your point. EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two are seperate, competing companies like Toyota and Volkswagen or like Apple and Microsoft. How can EA "fire" Take-Two?

I feel your pain. 2K Sports kicked us all in the nuts.

BUT by now there actually may be a patch on the way. They are now saying that the patch is at QA.
This news however only came after many people complained at the official forum. IMHO they did not expect that many complaints and only started developing the pc patch a few weeks ago to avoid more bad publicity.

Whatever the truth is. If there actually is a patch, it is at least three months too late.

1) Unrar nba2k10_patch_v1.1.rar

2) You will get a file named : nba2k10_patch_v1.1.exe
RENAME IT TO nba2k10_patch_v1.1.rar and unrar it.

3) You will get a file named : nba2k10_patch_v1.1.msp
RENAME IT TO nba2k10_patch_v1.1.msp.rar and unrar it.

4) You will get 2 files :

Copy createpholder.iff to your nba2k10 folder.

The exe above will require a retail CD. Since we have steam we don't have that. Until steam releases our patched exe we will need to use a 1.1 no-cd exe.

Backup your current NBA2k10 exe (incase you want to play old version or steam for some reason needs it to patch). If you don't you can always re-download it from steam by verifying the install.

To get a working exe:
As NCspecV81 said it is on gamecopyworld now. Megauploads is another site that tends to host these things.

Did you crack the game when you did it? Cuz you have to download a no-CD hack to get it to work. Either way, it's a joke. Steam is now the only outlet that doesnt have this out and it's upsetting since I've been so patient for this long with 2k, only to have Steam railroad me. I am not doing work arounds (esp. those that don't work online or allow me to get my NBA Live updates) when I know how quickly Steam CAN get a patch out when they want to. I have 80 pr 90+ games from Steam so know from experience. Get it together Steam, I know the game is unpopular or maybe didn't sell a significant amount through you, but when you can get game day patches or other patches out on their respective release day, you can get this done as well.

Tried this and no luck, maybe someone can shed some light..

I fallowed the exact steps and it asks me for a cd when i try to launch... so how is this suppose to work for steam users if we need a disc to play?

I did this two nights ago and it worked flawlessly. I didn't connect to any pick-up games, but I was trying it at 6:40am PST so maybe people weren't awake playing at the time. Otherwise, I was able to log in fine with no CD error or disconnected from 2K error.

EDIT: Step 3 is a tricky step because you have to rename its extension from .msp to .rar. You can't simply rename either, you have to make sure you're changing its extension. For Windows 7, you have to make sure you aren't hiding common extensions, and this can be edited in Folder Options in your control panel.

Once extensions are shown (you'll know when you can see .msp at the end of the file) rename the file and tag .rar at the very end. Extract here again and two files will plop out. Copy only the .iff file into your NBA 2K10 Folder (back-up your existing one). Leave the .exe alone because that will draw the No CD error.

Instead, go to Gamecopyworld.com and find the NBA 2k10 v1.1 no-dvd .exe from them and put that in your directory (back-up as necessary). Run the .exe manually or through steam and voila!

It's not really cracking it. Steam users need the no-CD .exe because we don't have the retail version. This is a legitimate option for steam users to get online with everyone else. I just had my first online match albeit laggy so I know this works. This method merely transforms your version to essentially the retail version.

Who cares about Hockey ?? It's not as popular as the "Big Three" of sports.
I just want Steam to release the freakin patch, it's not fair everyone else is playing while DD users are on the bench.

Hello,

As stated previously, there are two conditions that must be fulfilled before Steam releases a patch for any Steam game. While update files may be available through other outlets, the Steam version has not been approved and provided to Steam by the Publisher.

We appreciate you patience in this matter.

so according to this... its 2k's fault

I got the same response.

I know Valve are protecting their clients but I really wish they would give honest answers sometimes rather than making us assume everything.

Either say "2K say we cant release it yet" or "Yep, it will be up next week".

Thats very funny but I really doubt we will see a patch for this until next month.

What's with the delay? Surely this isn't a major procedure, implementing the patch into Steam?

Yea, it's been out for retail like a week ago or more. They need to hurry up and push it to Steam. I don't want to go through all of those crazy workarounds to make it work. I buy from Steam a lot of time for the convenience of auto patch management.

If it's not in by the end of the week I'm surely never buying anything from Steam again, even if it's not officially their fault

I don't know what reason steam would say to delay this patch, I don't care either. And I will only active offline mode after today , which means I would not buy any games from steam any more. This postponement with steam's attitude really disgusted me.

jeff613
03-31-2010, 08:12 AM
And let's not forget, this is a $20 game. But it's the principle that the $20 we spent back in frickin' October has all been wasted and probably cost us more in time and energy wasted with all the effort we've put into playing the game only to have it crash.

I came to Steam for this game, and bought a couple between then and now, but I too am just completely disgusted it is taking so long.

Steam Powered doesn't care about sports gamers. We should all just pack up our protest tents and admit that now.

In other news, feel free to msg me on the community once the patch is up. I'm an easy win:P

2KSports provides the patch to Steam not vice-versa, the patch wasn't even supposed to be released yet. It was leaked. Grrrr.

I didn't know it was leaked. But anyhow, I just wanted to make a Kanye like appeal to Steam is all.

surfrock22
03-31-2010, 12:55 PM
Um.. I don't think it was leaked, unless someone can link me. In the 2k forums, Ronnie has mentioned that it has been released for the retail version, and that Steam is in the process of approving the patch. He also has a twitter that mentions this, and I believe it is legitimate.

I have actually spent more than $20 on the game- considering the HD 4650 Ati card I purchased just to run the game ($100.00). The Xbox Wireless controller with XBox Wireless USB Adapter and XBox charge and play USB Adapter ($111.72)
Totaling $ 231.72 for everything Um yeah so for me to be annoyed that I have had a game since OCTOBER 2009 and can't play online.

All this just to play 1 game.

Well, this was your choice, you knew the requirements for the game beforehand.

While I think it's kinda ridiculous to stop using a service because one patch takes some time to be released it still sucks that the patch needs so long to be on Steam.

jeff613
03-31-2010, 06:18 PM
Why is it ridiculous? The game was released before the season started and now it's almost over and there is nothing to help us. Like I said I know it's not Steam's fault but they should have put more pressure on 2K to provide them with the proper patch, and then implemented it right away. It's Steam that's losing customers in the end. Most 2K players have a console and that's a whole other issue. If I were to have bought the game from 2K I'd be blasting them as much as I am Steam. Looks bad as a retailer especially when you don't pull the game because it's not a working game.

This is outta hand...I don't want a workaround either. I just want a legit patch, the one on the 2K site is such a tease to anyone who bought the game on steam. Cmon push the patch please!!!!

feels like a bad april fools joke :(I wonder what is the procedure of putting patch on server if it's aproved... Drink 500 coffees, smoke 800 cigarettes, scratch 1000 times in head then another 1000 in the a... It'll take a while I believe. After that employee eventually can sit at a desk in front of computer. I know it's just a game but Steam makes money on it. So a 'lil more attention would be needed.

the patch itself isn't a crack, you're just breaking it down to it's simplest form to get the file you need. You will only need the no dvd.exe file, which I can assure you is virus/malware/spyware free. You can get the no dvd.exe file at game copy world.

I right clicked my game icon in steam, and checked update news. Still says Oct2009....guess mine hasn't updated. WTF.

Do I have to manually do it? Been hoping steam would do it so I wouldn't have to use the DVD fix.

It is most likely updated. Steam did not update the news page with the information, however. I saw mine update right when it happened. You should be good.
