This has to be one of the ugliest most confusing games I've ever installed. I chose the word installed because I honestly can't say I've played it since the interface makes no sense at all and I can't even begin to guess how anything works.

The reviews said it was a very accessible and visually attractive game. Did I accidentally download the Colecovision port?

Not simple enough for you?

I played the demo a long time ago and thought it was pretty good. I can see it being confusing if you've never played RPGs before or turn-based strategy RPGs like HoMM or Age of Wonders. It is an old game so obviously the graphics aren't going to look as good now, but regardless it has nice hand-drawn graphics, which is something compared to the full-3d games now-a-days.

It does take about an hour or so to get the jist of it, so if you were expecting pick up and play, you would be disappointed.

Certain things about this game are annoying, like the lack of hero portraits, the max-zoom minimap, and that objects on the main map sometimes cover up objects behind them and you don't know what the hell is back there. Otherwise, I find it to be an overall enjoyable game.

Which reviews said visually attractive? Reviews from release? That would explain it. Otherwise, I think the graphics are good, but obviously dated.

Except for the artwork (which is very good in this game), HoMM and Age of Wonders series are better.

Game runs well under Windows 7 64bit so that is a big plus right there! :)
As for the game I love it! I didn't like HoMM because of the turn limit. This game doesn't have a turn limit, however you don't want to lay back and do nothing while your opponent conquers all the map. So, if you think of it this way, there is a turn limit of sorts. Also, there are some missions that are timed, but they are so few, that I can "deal" with them. I still love this game, and will play it still in years to come!!

I don't remember HOMM having a turn limit.

I have to disagree.

The interface is brutally simple once you understand it.

The campaign is fantastic on all sides, it has a great story and development.

The units are fun though combat CAN be frustrating at times when you get that murphy's law moment when you REALLY need for the computer to get paralyzed and they resist or theres a miss... etc...

But I fail so see how you can think this is a waste of money.

It does have turn limits when you are moving around on the world map. I found it pretty annoying too...

I prefer King's bounty series due to the fast play and no turn limits. Haven't played Disciples II yet...that's why im here in the forums looking for reviews :)

Well I finished the Empire campaign in Dark Prophecy recently. It was quite fun but I must admit the game is not flawless.

For starters, you need to save ALL THE TIME. Before ending a turn, make a save named after the turn number. For example, on turn 35, before ending the turn, press F4 then S and then type 35 and enter. It'll help a lot because you'll come across moments when you wish you could go back 2 or 3 turns and turn your hero the other way or something. Also, press Q before attacking anything (quicksave). Ctrl+L reloads.

Another problem with the game imo is that it takes too long to end a turn. The AI often takes a solid 10 seconds to do its turn and for an old game running on a lightning fast computer, that's just annoying :o The AI didn't seem that bright enough (on normal difficulty) to warrant such long turn times.

Lastly, the game pretty much revolves around you getting one awesome hero. Don't even bother with another hero because he will just suck up your XP that could be going to the good hero... only use other heroes to either pick up stuff or to hunt down rod planters (who are incredibly annoying :p) The problem with this is that if your main hero dies, it's game over (even though the game doesn't actually end). This is where all those saved games will come in handy! The game becomes kind of shallow once you realize these things.

it doesn't unless you specify it from the options.

I don't remember HOMM having a turn limit.

I'm almost certain that in Disciples 3, later missions have turn limits of the sort that you must complete missions within a certain amount of turns.

Guys, he's made it clear he's not played the game, yet he's still calling it a waste of money. Thread should just be closed at that point.

Game has changed from the relise date in Russia(about 1 year ago)... to better side i guess. I like it. it is simple and looks good. not oldschool Disciples, but it's good too. If u think it's coasts too much, i agree with u. I like Disciples 3 more then HoMM and i hope u'll like it too...

How would you guys say this game compares to Kings's Bounty? I'm on the fence about which to buy.

This forum covers an entire series of games, you should probably be more specific.

Secondly, if you're the only one confused by the game and everyone else here as well as game reviewers didn't have the same issue it's entirely possible you're just not doing it right.
