So I hear plenty of people with crash problems saying stuff like "oh when I do this in the game or look at that in the game my game crashes"

Here is my problem.

Step 1: I launch steam.
Step 2: I click on Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Step 3: I click launch
Step 4: the game crashes.
Step 5: I get the message "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem"

I've tried countless things.
Spent the last two days going on forum after forum with different solutions, non that have worked.

Its hard to fix this because its on Steam, and not just the CD itself. So no one really knows the answer to this problem

Ive sent a support ticket to Steam and they just ignored me.
I'm very upset with steam, probably never buying from them again.
I want a refund, since no one wants to help.

Why would Steam do this? Its horrible.
What a terrible company, they don't even have a phone number to talk to someone about the problem.

If anyone had this problem and was able to fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Windows Vista, and have the system requirements, my video card supports openGL and the drivers have been updated.

If anyone can fix my problem, Ill gift them a game for $10 or less.

Thanks again.

What are your system specifications?

I know what you mean. I tryed outcast on my old pc, but it gave me that. Try using another computer w/ a better video card. I used my dad's computer and it worked just fine. Also, no offense intended, but Vista has many problems and I had Vista too. Therefore, try a computer w/ 7 if a better video card doesn't help. REMEMBER to use another computer with BOTH solutions.:cool:

Vista has problems but the game was still capable of working. My old comp had it along with a Nvidia GT 6600 and the game ran fine. Now on my new comp? Not at all which has Windows 7 and an ATI 5770. Darn thing just crashes every time once the logo screen pops up. Sometimes it just hangs frozen there til I force exit too.

I have the same problem, with the same specifications, Windows 7 and an ATI 5770. I really hope someone has some ideas, because I'm at a loss. In my case, though, it loads up, goes to the blue title screen, idles for a bit, then crashes without even giving me an error message.

Edit: Never mind. For anyone with the same problem I had and an ATI graphics card, check out This thread here. (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1614636) It has the fix.

I'm going to try that solution Aasharu even though I've read it doesn't work for everyone. Maybe it will for me since we're running almost about the same thing. Don't really think I have to list the rest of my hardware. I just find it a bit of a downer I have to find loops to get a game to work because I decide to update a card. I respect both brands (Nvidia being the other brand and what I used before) for what they try to do for their cards but I really hope ATI considers support for the older games as well. I love that this card takes less energy and actually runs cooler, but if the games don't run because of bad drivers whats the point? I should be able to play old and new stuff on a card that's supposed to be capable of both. I should not have to switch two cards back and forth to play certain games.

Using the file didn't work and neither did the other solution on the post which was to rename to quake3.exe
