View Full Version : Fullscreen Resolution Problem

I have a strange error running Jedi Outcast. I have searched both this forum and the wider net and cannot find anything quite like it so I would appreciate any advice on resolving it. The problem is as follows:
The screen resolution will not change when running fullscreen mode. If I run the game windowed then there is no problem: I can alter the graphics settings. However, when running fullscreen, the resolution remains stuck on the default setting no matter what changes I apply in setup.
Now obviously I can play and enjoy the game windowed but my ultimate aim is to play it fullscreen on my 1650x1080 monitor using custom resolution settings so I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I am suffering from this same problem. I recently purchased the game during the steam holiday sale. I am running windows 7 (32 bit). The game runs fine, but in fullscreen mode it stays at 640x480 (16 bit colors) regardless of what I change in the settings and video configuration screens.

I found the answer in another post
Type the following commands in the console:
(Hold SHIFT and press ~ to get into console)
SHIFT + ~
r_customwidth 1920
r_customheight 1200
r_mode -1

I personally turned to the Widescreen Gamer's (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Star_Wars_Jedi_Knight_II:_Jedi_Outcast) wiki for help with setting up proper custom resolutions.
Run both the singleplayer and multiplayer executables at least once, to generate config files. Go to <gameDir>\GameData\base.
Open jk2config.cfg and edit these lines:
seta r_mode "x"
Set this to -1.
seta r_customwidth "xxxx"
seta r_customheight "xxx"
Set this to your favorite widescreen resolution.
Add this line to the bottom of the file:
seta cg_fov "xx"
I recommend 90 for 16:10 resolutions, and 95 for 16:9 resolutions (default is 80).
Now do the same for jk2mpconfig.cfg.

Thanks this helped me :) My Steam overlay though keeps being in 16 bit colors it seems. Any solution for that?
I looked, but didn't find how to fix that. It doesn't happen in Academy, either.

Wow, these fixes just make my game completely wonky. Cut off huge chunks of the screen on top and to the right. The cg_fov line keeps disappearing after I run the game, too.

So I followed every step said here and it didn't do anything. Someone on another thread said that instead of the original cfg file, I need to have it in an autoexec file. Any idea how to make an autoexec file?

Nevermind that. I found how to make the autoexec.cfg file, did it right, and STILL it does nothing.

I had this exact same problem, too. I had my monitor hooked up to my video card's mini HDMI port. I could only see the top left part of the game menu. It happened with other games, too. Shattered Horizon, IL-2 Sturmovik, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast were a few games that didn't show the whole fullscreen menu. Then I bought a cheap male DVI to female HDMI adapter. That fixed everything. All my games work fine now. Hope this helps.
