It would be great to see Codemaster's F1 2010 for PC on Steam ;)

Any votes?

The only foreseeable reason that Codemasters won't release it on steam is if they decide to scrap the PC version all together. I hope Dirt 2 sells well and that interest in Codemasters PC racing games continues. I worry, because Dirt 2 is about 12 hours from release but has yet to make it on steam's top sellers list from what I've seen.

Hopefully that will change after release and that we will see future titles like F1 2010.

You know it uses Game For Windows: Live Right?

Yes but I personally don't have any issues with it, not to say I like it though.

Lack of dedicated servers is what bothers me most, but expected as much from a Codemasters racer.

I wonder if Codemasters will ever drop GFWL...

I was hoping Codemasters would too:

Shame on Codemasters for turning a deaf ear to the online racing community, Helios confirm F1 2010 will use GFWL. Look like GIRD will be my last Codemasters game:

Repost form F1 forum, " WHY Codemasters, why are you using Games for Windows LIVE? (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/410059-why-codemasters-why-you-using-games-windows-live-10.html) "

I thought I updated this thread when I updated Facebook, but yes F1 2010 will be using GFWL on the PC.

Please Helios, tell us why Codemasters has decide to stick with "Games for Windows LIVE" after all the complaints and problems GFWL cause with DIRT 2?

F1 racing is popular around the world, so why would Codemasters use a program that block over 166 countries from racing online? And is going to cost you PC sales and a lot of headaches dealing with corrupted savegames files and delaying the first PC patch by a month while Microsoft certify the patch? ( DIRT 2 first and only patch, took 3 months to get release, GIRD first patch only took 5 weeks, second patch a month later )

Yes the patch will have to go through Microsoft Submission and Testing just like it would if it was a Xbox 360 game.
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/dirt-2-tech-support-1317/401137-sli-please-codies-some-news.html

It seem the PS3 is the only gaming platfrom that is safe to use world wide. Even the Xbox 360 is getting block from racing online if sold in an unsupported country.

There got to be a better solution than GFWL, that will help protect games from being pirated, but still let paying customers race\shoot\play online.

Will Codemasters print on the PC box and Steam download page this time around, that if live in country not supported by "Games for Windows LIVE", you will not be able to go online and race or get DLCs?

Will Codemasters make it clear to buyers before they buy F1 2010, that if they have the misfortune to live in a country that Microsoft will never support ( been 3 years and Microsoft has not added any new countries to their supported country list of 26 ), Microsoft will block you from racing online. Codemasters did not do this with DIRT 2, so many players got ripoff of there hard earn $40-$70 when they bought DIRT 2, then LIVE block them from online racing! :(

To the Live Team:

What is the current situation in bringing Live to South Africa?

As consumers, should we stop waisting our time, and money, and start supporting other gaming systems? WebAfrica will be launching a full mirror Steam server here next week, so Valve obviously can see a market.

What we're asking for is relatively simple, we're not wanting all the bells and whistles that come with XBox Live, but what we want is a South African gamertag, access to DLC, and access to multiplayer.

Wii's Network and the PSN are both available here, we even have iPhone stores and support from Apple.

We're tired of the same responses, please respond with something worthwhile so that we can either know that waiting for Live is on its way, or we can take our attention elsewhere and start supporting a system that supports us as a community.

I know I've created a seperate thread on this, I've done this as I can see this post getting lost, and then overlooked, in this thread.

Thank you.

NON-LIVE SUPPORTED COUNTRIES POST (http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/2848.aspx?PageIndex=18)

I will never, ever buy a "Games for Windows LIVE" game again!!!! Please Codemasters, see the light and let all of us race online.

are there any news if f1 2010 will be released on steam?

VividNinjaScar

It will be. Dirt 2 used GFWL as well and was for sale on Steam. F1 2010 will be as well. The only way it wouldn't is if Valve stopped hosting GFWL games, being they are competitors and all now.

I think the enthusiasm/concern is as much about *whether* it will be on Steam at all as *when*.

I for one am keen to get proper confirmation of (a) that it will be on steam, and (b) that it will support Steamworks enough to have achievements.

Some games are listed as coming soon 10 months before release (before they can be purchased), I don't think its unreasonable to ask the question about F1 2010.

Materially, it also makes a difference; if we don't know that its coming on Steam (or what the Steam release date is) then we will inevitably pre-order elsewhere. The forums are an avenue to express to anyone at Valve or Codemasters who might be looking that we are keen to buy it here.

It will not support Steamworks, F1 2010 is a GFWL only title.

You don't even know if the game is Steam only or not. The picture of the PC cover shows it's GFWL. I am a bit confused by this, a game with both Steam and GFWL achievements and leaderboards? Will we connect online through GFWL or Steam?

I assume that it's still GFWL, but they we're able to implement some aspects of steamworks in it as well. In that case, you won't need steam anyhow, just GFWL, if you buy a boxed version. They would have announced a long time ago if this was steam only, because in my book, it would be a good thing.

Yes I realize. I also realize that PC is open platform and shouldn't be limited to one digital system where you only rent games.

On a console I can't expect much but on PC I expect to have a choise to buy the game with Steam or without.

Mafia II and Rogue Warrior supposed to use GfWLive but then they turned onto Steam. No need for rage yet but still...

P.S. GRID was awesome without Steam or Live. Why can't they release the game without any system? PC <> console.

It depends on game and how good is MP, not on 3rd party system.

P.S. It shouldn't use any like GRID.

Bad games have dead MP. Good games do not. Halo 2 was the first GFWL game, it came out in 2007. It still has a very vibrant community. The same can be said for Shadowrun, which came out around the same time, although it includes 360 players.

Why is it only 35 bucks? Worries me...

Because F1 isn't that popular in the US so they've made it cheaper on the US Steam than the EU etc.

Official PlayStation Magazine gave it 9/10 so it is a great game for sure, Codemasters have just given great pricing on Steam (more like regular stores an online shops).

Can't wait.

Gaiajohan

Why is it that Steam can't be cheaper than shops selling it retail?
I preordered it for €31.45 in an online Dutch (no Asian) store.

Just like Mafia2 which I preordered for €31.45 as well, but on Steam it was €49.99

Gumz
09-02-2010, 06:43 PM
I think the extra cost is supposed to be for the Steam service or something, it's BS I know.. it should be the same price as in shops as far as I'm concerned as a consumer, but at least Codemasters aren't following the herd of developers with their usual sky-high prices with this game.

It's kinda funny though how DiRT 2 is still more expensive (EUR 49.99)... even though it was on sale not long ago.

Makes a bit sense with games from Codies. But even then it's bs indeed. As in a store people work for X amount an hour. Steam is just servers with several maintainers and some other guys. But their client base is 1000x as big..

But mafia2 for example must always be installed in Steam. Also the retail version. So there's no reason then why the retail version is much cheaper.

upr1z3
09-02-2010, 08:09 PM
Steam can't sell cheaper than retail, cause retail stores still sell a large portion of PC games, and obviously all console games. If retails get mad, they will stop selling games which is not what publishers/developers want.

But ♥♥♥♥ yeh! Its finally available on Steam. Shame its GFWL though

Only problem was the laggy game. Once you alt+tabbed and came back it was fine until you quit. That isn't a problem with GFWL.

I had no problems with Bioshock 2 or any other GFWL game. I understand peoples' frustration about the limited countries supported.

Personally I like it; achievements linked to my XBox profile (Steam, XBox and PS3 all synced to Raptr.com) - its all good!

Edit: this includes Bioshock multiplayer (and a *lot* of DIRT2 multiplayer) never had a problem. Actually the whole friend/party thing in DIRT2's multiplayer with GFWL I found really good; nice and painless with four of us all with PCs together racing online :)

Depends on where you live. In the US it's listed as Sept 21st and for the UK it's Sept 24th. Not positive about anywhere else.

Edit: Oops, didn't realize you said preload. Hadn't seen that confirmed, would be nice though seeing as Civ 5 is released the same day in the US, so servers will be quite busy.

Yes, it could be different with Steam. Valve sets VAC just the way the publisher ask them, that's why MW2 sucks while any Valve game is great in MP.
Steamworks and VAC are great if the publisher is not an idiot.
GfWL doesn't rely on pushishers' choices, it's always the same.
