View Full Version : Steam provides a terribly poor alternative to Good Old Games

I would like to be refunded immediately. I do not have time to bother with broken files. I payed for the package, not half of the software. I purchased the two Broken Sword video games only some two hours ago. I have waited while they downloaded through my school internet. Broken is a very appropriate adjective. I would like to repurchase the titles through Good Old Games. I will pursue and harass until my demands are met. VALVe Support delays service. The "digital publisher" is unreachable. Good Old Games provides digital download of all parts, with high quality, and in a neat and expedited manner.

Do not purchase older titles from Steam Content Delivery!

If your talking about Broken Sword 2 go here to get the cutscene files.

http://scummvm.org/downloads/#extras

Get the 111Mb cutscene pack and extract to the BS2 folder under Steam.

As to why it's like this from what I understand it has something to do with copyrights and legal issues.

Actually, I expect manuals to work, folders to be organised, and sound glitches to be fixed. Also, Broken Sword III is inoperable.

Ok, Well then stop posting on the forums that you want a refund go talk to someone on steam not the public. No one wants to hear your crys. I download the files and have been playing fine, if you can't do that then I really don't feel sorry for you. =P

I support this thread. Refund this man immediately.

Don't supply broken stuff if you expect to one-up on GOG.

Indeed... downloaded the cutscene files and I have no problems at all with either game. I'm very glad I own them on Steam. While I like GOG a lot, I don't like having to manually download and install the game--I prefer to have it always available in my Games list, like through Steam.

Steam didn't release a broken title, and it's not Steam who releases these games anyway--it's the publisher!! Blame them for releasing an incomplete or disorganized game, not Valve. Although that's been said thousands of times in these forums already, so if people don't get that by now...

Good luck, and I hope for your sake Valve shows pity and provides a refund. But really, there is nothing wrong with the games from Steam and if you can't get them working, perhaps there is something else at play.

So after I download the cut scenes where exactly should I place them in order the game not to start with a black screen which is recommending me to go to http://scummvm.org/downloads ? How to get this game to work without having the feeling that I have downloaded from Steam not the full game but a ripped game?

The sad part is, the version of ScummVM used by Broken Sword 2 on Steam is the second to last version that required separate cutscene packs (0.12.0). The 1.0.0 release added support for the .smk files that shipped with the game. ScummVM 1.0.0 was released... 6 months or so before Broken Sword 2 appeared on Steam, so there's no good reason for them to not have used it.

It would be relatively easy to create a new Steam bundle that included them... if Kalypso so cared.

They did provide the cutscenes for BS2. They were in a seperate fold. God knows why but you didn't have to go and download a seperate patch.

Go to

Program files-steam-steamapps-common-broken sword 2-extras

Copy everything in the extras folder, and paste it into the broken sword 2 folder

Now all the cutscenes will work.
