I looked up the game after the some guy in TF2 was talking about it, and was going to get but just a few minutes before I got it, I was wondering if it works on windows 7?

Some people have had issues getting it to run on Vista/7, but it's always worked perfectly for me.
I have the retail Game of the Year edition, but the only real difference between it and the Steam version is that I get to choose where to install it.

I was going to get the retail version of it from amazon for a few dollars cheaper anyway, I'll research it a little more before I buy it.

$6.69 right now on Steam. Considering it and the sequel. Are they both worth playing?

Also, the retail GOTY comes with a soundtrack disc.

You don't need to play the sequel but the original is a must-play-before-you-die game.

I'm running Windows 7, and I'm having sound issues with IW. I cant hear any dialogue in the game whatsoever.

Works great for me win 7 ultimate. Only glitch (if you can call it that) is that there doesnt appear to be shadows when talking to people but that may even be normal.
Gotta say im amazed how well this holds up, doesnt look to bad eithere if you bump everything to max in nvidia control panel.
Go get it id say.
Edit: oh sorry i was talking about invisible war!! 1st one worked perfect for me too though

I am having a problem with the game
it either runs too slow to be played or it runs faster than it should be and with choppy sound.
I am using windows7 64bit.

Force vsync on it. Thats what i had to do to get it to play a normal speed and stop with the chop. Todays modern pc's are way too much for some of these old games :D

I'm still having rpoblems!! I forced Vsync but they still cut their lines (near about finishing them, still annoying) and the game is still sped-up.
The Destructoid crew told me to use "windows compatibility mode", I did, but whenever I try to launch the game from steam, with compatibility mode set to my game EXE, steam says "the game is currently unavilable", and if I try to run the EXE alone, it says "ERROR, Steam not detected", even though I ALWAYS have steam running in the backgdound!!
Any Help Appreciated (and +reps to McBlasterson btw ;) )
EDIT:
OK I found my fix for the problem.
1) Verify Integrity of Game Files with Steam.
2) Set game as compatibility mode for Win98
3) Set Steam to Run as Administrator
4) Play :)
Hope this helps to someone having issues with this awesome game!

I fixed my sound issues by disabling directsound in the DeusEx.ini file. It's in the audio section. Set it to false and see how it goes.

What he said.
The sequel is ...well...it's not a worthy successor to Deus Ex to say the least...
The original is one of the best games ever
On topic
I played through the game on Windows 7 64, it worked perfectly fine for me

This has been posted elsewhere, but I was able to run Deus Ex on my Windows 7 64-bit system without any problems by going here and downloading his utilities first:

Select "Deus Ex on modern systems" :-)
I'm running from my store-bought copy of the Game of the Year Edition, but it runs great and no hassle after I installed the replacement Deus Ex executable and used the tool on his site...
