I can't get either of these games to run, I read the other post that was closed, locked and a post deleted and one can only assume from this that someone made a comment unsuitable for a forum such as this.
HOWEVER that or indeed THIS, DOES NOT address the issue and or issues nor does it help anyone with the problems people are having and of course now the post has been locked it does not give anyone a place to state their problems, issues and hassles.
Steam/Valve ARE commercially liable if a product is found to be faulty as THEY are the seller, it's general consumer credit laws and so on and of course consumer protection that will ultimately prevail in these types of situations, that said I have been a loyal customer of Steam/Valve for over 4yrs and I for one have no intention of having them close my account and of course losing all my money that I have invested into games for the sake of a couple of games that won't run by taking them to the cleaners with the governments consumer rights lobby.(moreover they cost a few pounds but, it's not about the money)
I run XP Pro and I can't get it to run!!!
All it does is comes up with some crash log error same with both games. (They were part of a Steam bundle)
I want my cash back, it isn't going to happen, I want the game to run, it isn't going to happen, I would like to see a fix and that too isn't going to happen.
Am I the only one that gets this crash error?
Tried everything and YES I mean EVERYTHING and it still fails or rather they BOTH fail.
The sad thing is the whole of this first page of the forum is plastered with threads stating how it won't start and yet NOTHING will happen other than this post like all the others will eventually drop off the bottom of the board to be replaced with more people complaining about how it doesn't run.
Oh and whilst I think about it Trolls post on a thread where people might actually give a damn what you have to say.

thank you for posting this, I was tempted to buy both on the sales.
Exactly what kind of error message does it show? what are your systems specs?

My machines vary as I own web design business (hence I have done everything as has my tech) and my machines vary from high end commercial spec down to one of my machines that still runs an AGP 7300GT card, P4 3.2gz, 2x1T seagate HD's and so on (high end for 3yrs ago with some more recent mods such as the HD's)
The usual error message I get is 'Fatal error! initialize renderer (see crash log for details) this depends on which machine I use.
Sadly my first post whilst long didn't really convey how many machines I can and have tried to run it on, I simply cannot reel out all the spec's for all the machines.
My point is that according to the spec's of both games they SHOULD run on just about all the machines I have available at my disposal including the odd laptop BUT they fail and yet I can get such things as Crash time 3, Resident Evil 5, Fallout3, Dead Space, TOCA3 and so on to run on the very same machines as these games won't run.
My god I sent in a support ticket and it told me to check my internet settings......my tech was more than amused as was i but still.

Hi,
I have these games running on 2 different computers, in 2 different Steam accounts, and both games run without any issues.
Computer 1
Intel Core i920 @ 3.8Ghz
XFX GTX260 x 2 (Sli) video cards
Windows 7
Computer 2
Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz
7600GS video card
Windows XP Pro
All computers have all the latest updates and drivers installed. I also have Xpand Rally Xtreme that runs without issues.

Thats great, thank you for your ermmm input ?
I mean that with all sincerity and respect too and of course I am not trying to be mean or anything of the sort. :)
The point of the thread is not to ask what spec I need to build a machine so i can run a couple of cheap ♥♥♥♥ games on, it was about the fact that they do NOT run on my machines and nor do they run on many other peoples machines and they should.

Well if you look at the specs I posted, the one computer is low spec and runs the game without any issues. So that should be of some help?

Funnily enough the spec's of your machines as a comparison are not much different to the two i have at home that they don't work on, I figured the high end machines wouldn't run it because they were too new and the spec too high and so on the low end machine I figured it was too low end spec to run them so I am still left with 2 games as are many others that don't run.
I have yet to try them on my laptop so I will give it a whirl on there and see how it goes and then if that fails I can try my eldest daughters laptop and work through the laptops I have to hand.
I was being honest too, I was not trying to be mean I just simply didn't understand the reasoning behind posting your PC stats.

There are a few things you can check to see what may be causing the issue. Go to the install folder and check logs/DXDiags.txt.
You may also want to update DirectX 9.0c since there are at least 4 versions of it, and 10/11 are not backwards compatible.
Finally you may want to update your video card drivers and also update Java. (for some weird reason this game uses Java)

Hi,
Xpand worked fine, now it doesn't start anymore. (init error)
So.. I went to investigate and it seems something broke Videosettings.scr, as the file was not like I left it (had to edit to run 1680x1050 res).
look in:(c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\xpand rally\Data)
find VideoSettings.SCR
open with notepad (rename the extension temporarily if it ♥♥♥♥♥es.)
The game WILL start :
if you remove Fullscreen() or comment it out
if you set resolution to 1024x768
I can run the game in windowed mode but can't figure what made it crash past the nvidia logo. It just stopped crashing after i fiddled something in the ini.
I can post my Videosettings.scr file if you want to copy it, the game works now. I've only put 40 min of my time into this and must move on for the moment. I will try to find a real fix this week.
If this does not work for you, the line before the error statement in crash.log will give a clue as to where it stopped.
It's really a good game, I really do hope you get a taste of it, especially in a LAN.
Cheers

Solved it for myself.
I do not know which solved it because I was trying to fix another game.
I ran the DirectX Add-on bundle from the directory of steam version of CIV IV:Colonization and installed ffdshow.
One of those things fixed it.

Hey, I would have no clue what the problem might be, seems to run fine on my new end system with windows 7 ultimate.
Are you still having problems with running it?
