*just short info:
ARMA 2 1.05 is out, this patch is universal and works ALSO with STEAM version
but before You use it
make sure You DISABLE automatic updates of ARMA 2 in STEAMclient before patching and keep it disabled after
Details : http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_2:_Patch_v1.05
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
ANY ORIGINAL VERSION OF ARMA 2 from 1.00 to 1.04
(including the Steam version, note that Verify file cache and autoupdate will not work properly until the full 1.05 is also out directly on Steam)
DirectX 9 from August 2009 or newer is required and should be updated during the patching process automatically as needed or you can update your version of DirectX from www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/
HOW TO INSTALL THE PATCH
Run the patch exe to apply the patch setup automatically.
It will install all content of the patch to the folder with your ArmA 2 installation (default is C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 or Bohemia Interactive\ArmA2).
Please note that it is not possible to rollback to a previous version after the installation of this patch, only a full reinstall of the game is possible, if you want to keep your previous version you may want to backup the entire game installation folder before applying this patch.
It is generally not recommended to use any savegames created in previous versions.

It only said that auto-update had to be disabled before applying the patch. As far as I know it didn't say anything about enabling the auto-updater after applying the patch.
Thanks for the info though :)

If you leave automatic updating on and Steam hasn't released 1.05 yet, Steam will most likely not recognize the changed files as a new patch and overwrite them with the 1.04 versions (if you launch directly through Steam).

This patch might be GREAT (i hope it is! OMG APACHE!!! <3<3)
But the problem is that Steam's "dont auto-update this game" setting is so seriously bugged that it's just bound to force a reinstall in the end.
I swear, everytime i tell steam NOT to update a game, it does it anyway at random times, like when i'm sleeping or the next time i start steam, pisses me off..
Will still download the patch and try it out before steam gets it though!

Does this mean that I can remove the "-winxp" switch from the launcher? Is it basically adding it automatically for me, or is it better (more ram/other-stuff available to program)?
On a side note, if ever there was a program that could use an x64 executable, its this one....

Having the same problem - 'Wrong CD KEY' .. I don't have the luxury of being able to start the game though, this is on a 2K8 server that I run ArmA2 servers from. It has a legitimate purchased copy of ArmA2 installed (via Steam) to run the servers. The game itself won't start because the server doesn't have a 3D Card (or monitor, or keyboard etc :P)
Patch refuses to install.. 7 ArmA2 servers stuck on 1.04 :(
ETA on the Steam version? The last patches through Steam worked fine.

you should not need -winXP anymore
unless you running some special overlay / capture software which sometimes fail to work with D3D9Ex and needs -winXP for normal D3D9
yet there still may exist some issues with abnormal VRAM setups (2+GB or 3-4 way SLI/Crossfire and so on) which needs -winXP

the one under FIX / WORKAROUND for the beta failing to install on STEAM build:
yet there is one more workaround possible but that's needs soem experience with handling files
after you run ARMA2Update_105.exe it extracts ARMA2Patch_1_05.exe into temporary folder
if You run this file inside main ARMA 2 directory it may patch w/o needed seek for path
yet sometimes it needs the ARMA 2 is root directory (e.g. done via subst)
the patch will be available on STEAM later but not before holidays

With non-Steam DRMless patch you don't need Steam to run the game - which is positive.
Autopatched Steam version might have Steam's DRM included back so there is no benefit in turning autopatching on.
If you don't care about that, just turn automatic updates on and validate game files after the patch for Steam version is announced.

What do I do with my beta patches now? Delete them? Will beta patching continue after 1.05?
Automatic launching of user made addons (units, missions etc.) via "pbo" file association with the game
And what does this mean? Is -mod=@ACE;@ACEX;@CBA;@Vopsound obsolete now?
Dwarden
12-23-2009, 03:38 PM
you can uninstall public beta now it's obsolete...
and there is official hotfix for 1.05 already
(will be part of STEAM update sometime in future)
so first 1.05 update via manual updater
then minihotifx for minicampain :)
Fixed:
- one of the endings did not work properly
- problem with entering vehicles

As someone had mentioned in another post, the autoupdater does not always stay off even if set off. I had it set off but noticed it was back on before. Question is, when that happens, does the 1.05 patch need to be reinstalled to make sure it is patched correctly?

And what does this mean? Is -mod=@ACE;@ACEX;@CBA;@Vopsound obsolete now?
it mean that you can double click / open e.g. MyGreatCOOPmission.pbo and ARMA 2 will start to play it
i'm not exactly sure if it works with addons (as far i remember it mean You can have addons not just in ARMA 2 directory but also profile section where You usually have mission saved from editor)
it may works that it open vehicle / unit addon into armory but about other addons like islands and buildings i'm not sure yet ...
about the -mod= line it will work fine
tho in your sample i must ask you sure that the order is proper ?
i always though the @cba must be first (from left)

please check the following 'beta' fix/workaround (if the registry entry for path is present)
FIX / WORKAROUND for the beta failing to install on STEAM build:
use registry editor add registry key into
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2
create new String value
name it "MAIN" (w/o "")
then place into it same content like is already in key "path"
(e.g. "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ARMA 2" w/p "" again)
that's all and now the installer sees Your STEAM game ...

id like an update on when 1.05 will be on STEAM also. Because i want to re-install ARMA 2 to see if the 1.05 patch makes it a bit more playable and id rather re-install with 1.05 already implemented from STEAM.

Yeah same I can't seem to install it manually. I start the game load it up on 1.4 and it works perfectly fine. Then I install using the exe it runs and completes and when I load up the game it gets to the menu and then crashes after two seconds. It doesn't give any indication why. I have tried reinstalling quite a few times and it is very irritating. I did the thing where you disable auto update. I have patched countless ammounts of games and never ever experienced this much trouble.

considering our universal manual patcher is cca 20 times smaller download i hope You understood this decision ...
Seems to kind of take the point away from what steam is supposed to provide but I guess its your organisations decision in letting them patch. When is this 1.6 patch out? or can you suggest any solution to my problem above or a place I might be able to find one cause quite frankly I don't understand why it won't work when updating to 1.5 manually when it works fine running 1.4. I just want to play the game with people who are all running 1.5.

ETA on 1.06 pls?, would be handy to know so people can decide to update manually or not, and also if we do update manually does that then mean we will never be able to recieve an update via steam again?
If 3rd parties want to sell their product on steam at least make sure you provide the same service across the board!...for once i don't really blame steam for this and will be looking for a refund.

manual patching to 1.05 should be quite easy for most users
and if not You can always get help from me ...
until patch is released on STEAM just disable updates of ARMA 2 (then it wil ll be just about re-enable when new update is on STEAM)
i can't give You ETA as the patch is still being worked on ...
yet there is available public beta of 1.06 (see other sticky)
i'm sure some of the fixes are worth it :)
note: it's numbered as 1.05 as it's backward MP compatible with 1.05

Well I have installed numerous patches on to many games to count but still this one is giving me trouble so any help you can give would be appreciated.
I'll repeat the problem I'm having. I download and install on steam which updates to 1.4. I have played on 1.4 and it runs well enough. Before I attempt to patch I go to steam I turn off the auto update thing and checked integrety which says everything is A ok. I then install the patch it completes doesn't give me any problems etc. I run the game it goes through the initial loading stuff at the start it gets to the welcome menu where it says 1.5 in the bottom right corner and then crashes. I have tried deleting everything and starting again and I have tried getting patches from different locations and installing anything else I can try????

I must not be among those most, as this is confusing the heck out of me.
Could someone give me the steps to installing the 1.05 Patch on the steam variant? I've tried reading everything in this thread and im still completely stumped as to how to do this.
I've gathered that you need to turn off Steam Auto-Update in order to install it, but i cant figure out where to do that from either.

Not sure if this is right as I can't get my game to patch properly but from my understanding to turn auto update off you right click the game (Arma II ;)) in the my games list. Click Properties then the updates tab. Click the toggle and change it to "Do not automatically update this game" and click close. If this is wrong may explain why I can't get mine to work.

did clean install on steam twice, applied patch and hotfix and when I get to the main menu, the normal carrier background is just black and it crashes 1 second later.

I'll let my wallet talk next time Bohemia Interactive releases anything new. If you, like me, started out with Operation Flashpoint almost a decade ago, you'd understand.
It's of course completely unacceptable that the newest patch isn't out on steam, and I blame BI 100%. If you can't deliver, then don't cash in on gullible customers with being on Steam!
Shame on you, BI.

Absolute garbage....just crap Ive been playing PC games for over 10 years and I must say that this 1.05
is just crap. I love paying $50 bucks for a game that I cant hear and now I cant even play. I purchased Arma 2 on steam along with about 7 other players from my clan.
Less than a year later and the game isnt even playable BS. I honestly want my money back I am not willing to wait for the 1.05-1.06 patch for steam
I think Bohemia is being really ♥♥♥♥ing lazy. So I want my money back or I demand a playable game. All my clan servers have updated to 1.05 on there own, but im stuck at 1.04?
Ohh ya and dont even think about patching from a 3rd party to 1.05 because it will just crash once it hits the main screen. And yes I have the auto updater disabled and Ive reinstalled 3 times.
Final thoughts: I thought the sound glitch was annoying now I miss every annoying crackle and pop. I want to play my game. Bohemia is really ♥♥♥♥ing lazy, Steam is garbage.
I will never buy another digital copy EVER!!. I will never buy another Bohemia product. Send the 1.05 to steam and make sure it works. Stop screwing your customers..this
goes for all developers I feel us gamers are getting left out more and more..Dont be IW or EA
http://www.xfire.com/profile/fstr10u/ 350 hours of play I deserve more of course why do you care you have my $50

Oh so its a problem more than me doing something wrong installing it! Well that sucks :(. Surley they can even bring out a fix in a beta or something untill the new patch comes out unless of course they have no idea what the problem is hence why they have no patch out on steam.

A monkey could patch a game its not the process I mean how hard is it to double click an .exe Maybe its the fact that steam doesnt save settings and it feels like updating the game after Ive turned it off multiple times.
ITS THE PATCH or compatibility with the new Nvidia drivers

I did a clean Win 7 Install. It appears as though the problem is gone; I have booted the game over 20 times and all seems good. I will report back after playing with the clan this weekend (fingers crossed).

Alright, 2 months is getting ridiculous, it can't be that difficult to upload the 1.05 patch to the Steam servers, even if you have to redownload it again after to do quality checks. Please update Steam already. Valve, get after BI and get them on the ball.

I'd be happy to report if this solves the problem if I knew what HDMI output you were talking about. If you're referring to the HDMI audio output available in Windows 7's audio control panel that has always been enable (and is by default) for me. If you tell me exactly what solved the problem I think we can attempt to replicate it.

I should say that if the only way to get this to work is to enable and set HDMI audio output as the default device, then anyone who uses another output device (say headphones) can play, just without sound...

Right, I had this same problem, and eventually discovered that since I plugged in my Xbox 360 pad, it had added entries in the recording devices and playback devices, once I deleted these the game launched first time, with sound.
So if you have Windows 7, right click your speaker icon in taskbar, select playback devices and check your soundcard is top of the list and set to default. Do the same in the recording devices tab, and you should be good to go.

So basically anyone who uses alternate sound devices is screwed.

After installing the patch and hotfix, in Scenario "War Welcome", you can no longer radio in for support (air-strikes and helo-extracts). This was working fine in 1.04

It's already been said that there will be no steam 1.05 patch, but there will be a 1.06 one.

is 1.06 even being worked on right now?
you'd think they would have an open beta for it.
It is, but I think at the moment they're working on the expansion, Operation Arrowhead, and the patch will probably come out with/around the same time as that.
