Hey, I bought torchligh after trying it out the demo for a bit, but now when I try to get past a certain point of the game, the game ends and mentions buying the full game. I already own the game, and I can't repurchase it via steam, so I don't know what is wrong. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling and debugging, but nothing is working.
Also, the game crashes whenever I change my resolution and won't run unless I uninstall and reinstall the game, anyone know what may be wrong?
Running on Vista 64 bit if that helps at all.

I got the same with the demo thingy. Try to uninstall the demo with the windows uninstaller in control panel - that fixed it for me.
Don't know what crashes your game. I think some other people getting this too. You don't have to reinstall it after the crash. You can change the resolution manually in AppData/Roaming/runic games/torchlight/local_settings.txt Search these two lines RES_WIDTH :
RES_HEIGHT : and change em to the resolution which works for you.
To solve your crash problem I can only advise you to try different video drivers.

Well, I can't find the torchlight demo on my computer anywhere, so I'm really not sure what to do. Send an e-mail to the developer, so hopefully they can get back to me.

Right click on Torchlight in Steam, and select, "Delete local content...", make sure there are no other entries in your lists such as, "Torchlight Demo", if there is, "Delete local content..." for it too, then exit Steam, then delete clientregistry.blob (just to be sure) from Steam's folder, then restart Steam, then, reinstall Torchlight.

+1 at least on the res thing. Whenever I change a setting it fries the game until I uninstall and reinstall it. Also on Vista 64 bit.

Try this:
open %appdata%\runic games\torchlight\local_settings.txt and change:
RESTART_ON_FULLSCREEN_CHANGE :1
to:
RESTART_ON_FULLSCREEN_CHANGE :0
You can also set:
RES_WIDTH :xxxx
RES_HEIGHT :xxxx
...to your resolution.

I couldn't find it as well. Are you sure it's not in the programmes list in the windows control panel?

I had this demo problem as well, deleting everything and re downloading it didn't work :(
so I just deleted the char I made in the demo (who was only level 3) - made a new char, and that sorted it

Tried erasing my character, still stuck in demo mode. Any other ideas?

Have you tried reinstalling the demo version then unistalling it again?
Aside from that with torchlit unistalled, make sure to remove the directory:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\runic games
and if that's not there try searching the registry for "torchlight" and removing any possible entries there.

Tried both of them, didn't work. I can't reinstall the demo, and when I have the full game downloaded it says "Play demo", so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I have this same problem, too. I've e-mailed Runic Games about this problem SEVERAL times, and I was surprised to see one of the replies they gave me. This is the exact reply:

Hmm - Steam appears to think you don't own the game right now -
are you playing in Offline mode, by any chance, after updating?
Basically, Steam is failing to initialize at startup of the game. Can you see
Steam in your bottom tray?

Steam thinks I do not OWN this game right now??? How could this be, when, if you look at the game in my account, it says I paid for this game back when it came out - the FULL $17.99? (image here @ this link)

So I am totally confused. Anyone with some REAL answers would be greatly appreciated.
I also have this problem. Can't get away from that "Demo version" :(
Edit: After a reinstall of steam the games has worked fine. Don't forget to copy your game-folder so you don't have to install everything again.

I had this happen to me as well, seems to be tied with the latest Steam Update as the game was working fine for me before I let it update. I did the whole verify cache routine and was one step away from reinstalling, all I had to do to get it back working was restart steam though.
