Hi,

I have read the posts and tried all of the little things I can find. How do I fix the Battlefield 2 problem below?

Equipment
-Win 7 GA
-ATI graphics 4200 family
-VIA HD audio using MS HD driver because VIA's drive is not Win 7 ready and there is no update for either
-AMD Dual core 3.0 GHz CPU
-51" projection TV
-4Gb memory

Note: The Section 8 game plays great on above hardware and requires more resources that Battlefield 2

What happens with Battlefield 2
-Launch game from Steam or desktop shortcut and receive the following message, "Account Control - Steam Client Services wants to make changes to the harddrive"
-The above message comes up every time even if I right click on the icon and run as administrator
-EA logo displays with sound over the full screen
-BF2 introduction plays and I press escape
-Game returns to desktop when I select Multiplayer or Single player

What I have done so far to fix Battlefield 2
-Installed without problems
-changed video to 800x600@29Hz (my TV) in profiles/default directory, 00001 directory did not exist
-change one thing at a time under program properties/compatibility and tried to start program each time (lower resolution, disable desktop composition, run as administrator, and other stuff just for kicks and grins)
-Deleted the game, deleted the directory under steam/steamapps, deleted the directory under mydocuments, removed the Registry keys
-reinstalled

Try turning uac off completely. Also, try running it in compatibility mode for windows xp. It works for me on win7 64 but I have uac turned off.

Is punkbuster updated?

Edit: I had problems with BF2 years ago and a motherboad driver helped solve the problem. Just make sure every driver is the latest.

Can you get into the audio tab?

I tried turning uac off on my 64 bit Windows 7 and it had no affect.

It is a bug with the 1.50 patch, no one has been able to fix it so they had to go back down to 1.40.

I dunno if you can downgrade the Steam BF2 though, I will have to buy it and see (Havn't played the game for a good few years now)

Try performing a bit of maintenance work:
Install latest drivers for video card, sound card, and other components.
Install the latest version of DirectX: Download here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3)
Install the latest Windows updates.
Not sure if BF2 uses Visual C++, but several other games and apps do: Download here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=a5c84275-3b97-4ab7-a40d-3802b2af5fc2)

Once you've completed all that, restart your computer and give it a try.

Edit: I have the complete BF2 pack from Steam, run Win7 Pro x64, and have no problems.

I'm installing the game right now and it said the game hadn't been tested on 64-bit...
