View Full Version : Permanent Radiation Bug in SoC?

I just finished a mission in SoC and have come to discover that I seem to be permanently poisoned by radiation.
I noticed this because when walking or running my character "stuttered" every few seconds, in the way you pause briefly when running over an object. Dead stop every few seconds.

So I checked to see what was going on and discovered that the radiation "tube" was constantly bumping up slightly in the yellow. Not rising, but "pulsing" for lack of a better way to describe it.
So I tried radiation medicine and what should have worked didn't - no change at all. I used up 10 of the rad kits with no change.
Also, I have the Seva Suit and plenty of radiation resistance through that and artifacts.
I'm using the same artifacts I've been using for a long time now in the game, so it's not them. I have no unusual equipment or guns or anything, and it still happens when I unload everything anyway.
I'm using the Complete 2009 mod on Stalker SoC v 1.0005, BTW.

I might that I had finished my mission and was doing fine when this suddenly started happening and I was on my way back to the Bar to collect a reward. I wasn't trudging through radiation-infested swamps or woods, just walking down the path I've walked a thousand times, with nothing unusual there.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Is this a bug or have I done something wrong?
I can go back to a previous save and the issue isn't there, thank the gods, but if it happens again, it's one serious game killer.

I've heard the permanent radiation is a bug from original game, you could try to go to another level and see if it's gone (just in case, you can jump between key points with ESC+J in this mod and ESC+S to have auto-named quicksave)

Thank you for the confirmation. :)
I remember now the first time I played SoC shortly after it was released, this same thing happened. Back then I thought it was just a part of the game though, like my equipment was irradiated or something, and just dealt with it by using a whole lot of anti-rad kits and vodka. That was with vanilla SoC, no mods, so I'm certain it's not the Complete mod that caused it.

Now I know it's a bug, and apparently a random one, because I just repeated my steps *exactly* that led up to the situation and it didn't happen this time. I just hope it doesn't happen again, because it is VERY annoying. Fortunately I save very frequently, so it was easy enough to undo.

I didn't know about ESC+J and ESC+S. Very useful, thank you! :)

Yeah, that's a bug, & it's unrepairable. A save game from the previous map is the only option.

Sadly this bug still hasn't been fixed. I just got the bug today: I'm on my second play-through, now using Complete 2009 mod. Unfortunately I have already sunk more than 100 hours on this play-through and I have no former saves, so restarting is not an option. This bug is really annoying, but the game is still playable, you just have to always have negate rad artifacts on you at all times. Armor with goo resistance to radiation helps as well.

I like to use the Tourist Suit (80kg weight limit) but with the bug I have to always have 2 Urchin's equipped, or I will die from radiation in a very short time. Only one Urchin is required with a higher resistance armor suit, like the Military Suit, or the Green Scientist suit.

This bug was actually fixed almost three months earlier than the date of the previous post, but the search might not have revealed the solution at the time.

As of this post, this thread is currently the top result for STALKER "permanent radiation bug" but the solution info is just below it. Do your own search or start with this Steam thread.
