Quake 3 internet servers??? Non existent

So howcome no one is online? I know steam patches the program to the latest version. I am not getting any servers for internet. Is the CD key that steam provides not working?

ok i just went into my options screen it says cd key not valid
WTF i bought this off of steam

Copy the CD key back in but in lowercase eg:
Instead of ABC-123-DEF
Put: abc-123-def

Ok cd key is now valid , however during multi player searching on internet, says no master server responding.

Also when i exit quake 3 i have to reenter the cd key by entering lower case letters.
Any fix for this?

Hmm i started today after a long time Q3 again up and i got over 2000 servers, that's quite a bit more than i thought especially besides Qlive. ;)

make sure it's patched up to 1.32, and that you have the appropriate mod for the server you want to join

then make sure you have the appropriate mod for the server you want to join, along with any other map files or otherwise needed pk3's.

Make sure your game filter isn't on Local (it should be on Internet)

Try setting "local" to multiplayer. And NOT mplayer, that sucks.

Why would you do that ? Quake live is cool , and I do play it, but q3 is completely customizable and thousands of people still play it.

quake live is a server side plugin and don't take up any hd space :) plus there are more players now since most left the old quake series :( i miss Quake2 lithiumII servers

QL is a server plugin, but it DOES take up HDD space, look in you doc and settings / user / apps / ID software

Quake Live takes about 1.5 gigs of hard disk space as I recall.

Are you able to change your version with the steam version of q3?I use the OFX-Q3Switch (http://www.quaketweaks.com/version.html). Alot of people play 1.31 and 1.30
