Okay, well im interested in giving my Q8300 an OC for the hell of it and to test my cooling capabilities on it. Only thing is i am unable to OC higher then 350x7.5 as the system freezes and have to power down.

Now the system can handle 345 but as you know that isnt much of an Overclock

XFX 750i SLI Extreme Edition(Based on 750i Ultra or 780i Ultra) Cant remember which lol

6GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 800mhz 5 5 5 18

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=945775

Now According to this - http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/core_2_quad_q8300_review/15.html

i should be able to go quite a bit higher, now i assume that has to do with upping the voltages.

Thing is when OC'ing i used nVidia's Software to do so as XFX suggested it. OC'ing further appears to require doing it in the BIOS.

Use the BIOS to overclock.

Well no Duh rotN, but if i need to raise the voltages how do i know how much to increase them by?

If you are good at overclocking in the BIOS and not using some stupid third-party software, you'll also know how to determine when the system is stable by running various tests for stability and then determining whether to increase the Vcore or not. Any time you start increasing voltages you always do it a little at a time and you monitor your temperatures very closely.

Prime95 and MemTest86+ for stability; RealTemp for thermal monitoring.

Actually i think i'll just keep it here so i can tell you to stop being Rude.

just because your an oh so all high and mighty Mod and EX i stress EXXXX Microsoft person doesnt mean you can be a rude smart ♥♥♥.

And for the record i thought about it but wasnt sure it would do the whole thread thus why i asked you to do it.

If you cant give someone a base line to work with when they ask for help why Bother?

i was expecting you to actually try to help when i made this fn thread

I suggested you use the BIOS to overclock. That is the number one thing you must learn. If you don't know how to overclock in the BIOS, then you really haven't started learning the basics and you won't need any hand holding until you start learning it from guides on the web. What guides have you read for your motherboard, its BIOS and your CPU? If none, then you haven't done one bit of homework to even begin to understand it.

You then asked to delete the thread and I told you to use the edit feature. If you think this is rude, go to some other forums. They'll eat your shorts! I'm not being rude.

I Already knew i need to use the BIOS i already said that, the problem is upping the Voltage of which i dont know how much i should do.

the Overclock portion of this motherboard is a lil weird..

and i already pasted the info i found on the CPU in the above thread which you never commented on.

You won't need to up the voltage on almost all of these Q8xxx CPUs. You will need to loosen your ram timings (from DDR2 800 or 1066 to 667) and just raise the FSB in increments of 15-15-10-10-10-7. After FSB 400 (1600) you are on your own.

The 750i board isn't a good 45nm overclocker though. I'd just raise the FSB to 365-375 and call it good.

Ninja edit: If the overclock fails, find out what values in your motherboard are set to when on auto, and lock them there. Some boards are stupid and auto overclocking and will change your voltages all around higher and will confuse the hell out of you when your overclock fails.
