Does anyone use the 3rd Space FPS gaming vest with Steam games? Have you had any problems getting it to work?

Im trying to get mine to work with Borderlands but it's just not working and I've tried everything.

Has someone else had this problem by any chance?

I think it boils down to support from the game. This is an old article, but I think it may answer your question:

I think it may be the Driver because I can't get it to work on HL2, HL2 EP1 or HL2 EP2 :(

I hope it gets updated soon

Do gaming vests even help? Is it able to identify where your character is being shot from? As opposed to just reading the onscreen direction indicators.

Noob question, maybe, but what's a gaming vest?

one of those halfassed 'gaming' peripherals that are supposed to improve the experience

supposed to vibrate when you're shot or something.

For $50 an hour, you can hire me to punch you every time you get injured in any game. $70 if you want to punches to correspond with directional damage.

Just send me a PM if you're interested.

Why pay you at all when we can simply pay a one-time fee for the vest and get the same experience (albeit less painful)? Waste of money you would be.

some would say the same about a "gaming" keyboards and mice. it's up to the user, maybe it really does enhance the game for some people. just like those flight-sim cockpits

Yeah, it's all subjective. If it makes him the happiest person on Earth, who are we to say it's not worth it?

Now all we need is gaming underwear for when we pick up hookers in GTA :D.

You obviously don't know a good deal when you see one.

Any updates?

I can get games outside of steam to run my vest but none of my steam games will co operate.

Causing itself pain to have more real gaming experience sounds kinda sick.

I have no input for you on the issue, but just have to say I've never actually see anyone who has one of these talk or post about it.

Seems even more silly now picturing someone sitting down playing a game in an electronic vest that jabs them every time they get hit.

Anyways good luck with your issue.

Never used a gaming vest, but have you tried playing Steam games in offline mode? Just a thought I'm throwing at this problem.

It works either way, being online or not didn't make a difference for me. i.e. if it doesn't work, going off or online won't make a difference. It's a good idea to redownload the driver. They keep updating it, but the filename stays the same. Only way I would know if they did anything new is to check the file size/version.

Note that just because TN says game A is supported... well assuming that the driver supports game A (as in that particular version patch, and yes... even if it has the right version... because it's on Steam, it might not work due to the way Steam games are installed as opposed to non-Steam games?) Every patch I install seems to break/fix this. i.e. I never got it to work on Borderlands GOTY (Steam) but it did work on the non-Steam version.

I'd test it right now but the compressor noise has surpassed my annoyances limit for June...

PS Steam forums are not the best places to ask for help, especially technical help, for the vest. Pity the OEM doesn't have any forum support/etc. All you can do is create yet another support ticket.

Thanks for the idea, it beats the off topic speculations on whether the vest is good or not.

Offline mode won't fix it. It seems likely that because steam updates games so frequently, the TN Games people can't keep up. Although this is speculation as they seem to be ignoring my emails.

This is a real shame because the vest is awesome.

I have two beefs about it. Pink only comes in S/M and M is too small especially when you take a deep breath. But most of all, that compressor... I've put it in my handbag, then stuffed that in a portable drawer which I tend slid under the desk and it still annoys me ^-^.

It's also a bit too little, too much. For example in Borderlands, it just lets you know you've been hit as 'front-right' or 'back-right' instead of just the onscreen 'right'. That's good but It still doesn't let you know if you' being hit from the top or bottom. So in some cases, you're getting slightly misleading cues and whatnot. In other games, I always get hit 'harder' on the upper portion because that happens to be the area that's tighter. It's also harder to 'slump' as the bottom edge will start to cut into the mid-riff area.

Ah well, maybe one day some over the top OEM will just modify a full-body g-suit... which will probably only work for one flight-sim. it's not as great as say something like TrackIR but I don't understand all the non-owners going off on it.

My vest is made out of real gorilla chest.

I think you should see it
