well, yes, but that's not the point, some people like using controllers :) they'll never be as good as an average mouse user in a fps, but it's all personal preference.
Btw mw2 was on 360, but lacked controller support, so i wouldn't hedge your bets. I suppose we may see on Thursday. You could always send a nice e-mail to DICE, or suggest it on the official beta forums if the support isn't there.

I always thought controllers came with software so if a game didn't support it.. it could still be used.

MW2 was a cheap port.
BFBC2 is not.

True, DICE has a team working on the PC version exclusively.

I use the 360 when friends who - how this is possible I don't know?! - come over and "say I can't figure it out with a mouse and keyboard.... It's too hard"
So I baby down to them and hook up the 360 control to let them get a feel... This tactic has turned at least one of my friends who swore they would never start buying games on PC to finally see the light...
Plus it is nice to sit on the couch and play every once and again...

I hope it does like gtaIV did. I use mouse/keyboard for shooting/fighting, but driving all I did was pick up my 360 controller and drive away. I didn't have to change any settings to be able to go back and forth between mouse and controller. This game has vehicles, so it would be great if it did support the controller!

Believe it or not, the controller can help with vehicles quite a bit. Especially choppers. Trying to fly a chopper well with the mouse/keyboard is...difficult. The twin sticks of most controllers are almost perfect for helicopters.
They make planes easier too, but...don't be a jet-loser...

I hope it does so I can convert my 360 friends to PC. I play 360 some, but I mainly play PC. I used to be console only back in the cod2 days. But I love the community behind PC games, and the teamwork used. I think console will always be better for casual gaming, but for competitive play pc is better.

I would just like to clarify that you can't use a xbox 360 controller made for the 360 on the PC (not now or ever for any game). In case you got that mixed up, you would need a 360 controller made for the PC (but then I don't know if it's supported...).

There is no support for 360 controllers besides maybe using them for flight.
As DICE said:

Exactly. I always used my Sidewinder ForceFeedback Pro for the planes ( & later helicopters in the modern combat mod ) when Battlefield 1942 was released. It was a lot more comfortable with the stick than with the m/k combination where youŽd need 3 hands to get the same result.
I hope there will be controller support for the vehicles.

Does this game actually support joysticks for Flight controls and steering wheels for cars? I kinda lost my hope in game developers after playing Operation flashpoint - Dragon Rising. Some support for the 360 controller would be sweet to use it for flying and stuff. Otherwise some things should be able to work using Third Party software.

The wired 360 controller is usb and works on both pc and 360. I know, i use one that was spare with a friends xbox. Also the wireless ones can be used if you buy a wireless reciever for the pc.
You also only need the driver cd if you're running anything before windows xp sp3, and if you are, then you don't deserve it :)

And you need a reciever you can't buy alone! But if you buy a Controller + Reciever and hook it up to your PC, you can use other Controllers with the same reciever.

This. I also hope the PC version supports the 360 controller, so that I can totally destroy noobs who are using the 360 controller to play a PC FPS and then laugh at them. It's almost as good as destroying actual Xbox kids.

Cochon it's the same controller either way, the xbox 360 controller uses usb. You can literally unplug it from your 360 and plug it into your pc. Depending on your operating system you might need to download a driver for it.
I would imagine it'll work, BF2 I used to use a controller for helos / jets, and the 360 controller is pretty much the de-facto standard for pc gaming these days.

Seriously i find it sad how many people say, "Omg are you serious, your using an xbox controller on pc". Not saying that a k/m is worse, but people slate it without even trying it or even knowing someone who has, i've been gaming for 6 years on PC and even longer on xbox and i use an xbox controller on a lot of PC games, and still own most of the time.
If it's not how you like it don't just go around calling it like a little school boy.
To add, as long as you have an adpater for the pc any controller for the xbox you have ever bought will work on the pc. And i really hope they support controllers on the PC version, and if they do i will gladly show how awesome using a controller, to snipe, run and gun and generally pwn is.
Feel free to add me, Halaran, if you don't believe that xbox controller can be better than k/m.

What I really want to know is: Can you aim as fast as k/m?
Because when I tried a controller, I had to "scroll" to the place I wanted to aim (the head), while running. For me it was an impossible job.
With k/m I just point exactly where I want it, while running.
Ofcourse this has to do with the fact that I use k/m for almost 18 years, while using controller for about 3 times :).
But could you tell me how you can aim that quick, while running? Can you pinpoint your crosshair within say.. 0.5 sec? (or even faster, never timed it)
Thanks

With the sensitivity you can have it set to, easily, your not going to be able to spam spin round shooting bullets like in MW2, but being how realistic BF:BC2 is it's can be just as quick and i'm my opinion more precise.
+ i prefer pulling a trigger than click a mouse :)
Just to add i snipe most of the time, and most the time i'd go for a headshot so being precise while keeping a smooth motion is more my thing, and tbh, i just don't get that with a mouse and keyboard.
Furthermore i would rather get the game on xbox but my steam clan friends are all getting it for PC, and it's more fun with a clan. and before someone comes at me with "then why don't you just get it on xbox?" because trust me i would

If you will not use a joystick if they support them in the retail version fly with the keyboard only. You can use WASD and arrow keys to fly easily compared to the mouse IMO and also the fire button on the keyboard is space for default.

That most likely has nothing to do with it. ANY decent game these days should support what has become the standard PC controller lately.
it does NOT work!
the right joystick of the 360-gamepad is not recognized by the game, so you cant assign all the controls.

You don't fly with a mouse and keyboard or a controller. For that you use a flight stick conveniently placed beside your mouse and keyboard.

The BETA didn't support the Xbox 360 USB Controller. I tried to configure it manually too, and it wouldn't recognize the Analog sticks or the trigger buttons.
I hope the final version does though - flying Choppers with a Keyboard sucks.
Most BF games allow you to choose which controller you want to use for different situations and vehicles.
I don't see why Bad Company would be any different.
DICE should extend full support for the Xbox 360 USB controller - it's stupid not to.

Much easier to pilot vehicles with a controller imo, you just hold the stick down instead of sliding the mouse around to move the turret / steer the helicopter

Seems to me it would be easier to just use a k/m the whole time instead of constantly switching between controller and k/m when you get in and out of vehicles...That's like something I'd just try out for the hell of it for like 5 minutes then never do it again.
Anyone have a status update on this? I'd like to know if I can use the 360 USB for flying because I am fail at M/K flying.

I use my ps2 controller for choppers. Everything else is k/m. As long as windows recognizes your controller, and all your buttons are recognized, any controller should work. If it doesn't, I would suggest going into gamepad config in windows and verify everything is set and calibrated.

MW2 was a cheap port.
BFBC2 is not.
Mass Effect wasn't a cheap port and it doesn't support controllers.
ditto on Dragon Age, Oblivion, Battlefront, Splinter cell, etc...
Since when was using a controller bad?
I thought it was the console that was bad. Can you honestly say a mouse is better than a joystick in a racing game? No you can't.
A mouse is "better" than a joystick here. But thats not the point. All the guy wants is to enjoy the game in another way. Plus, some people can be quite godly with the joystick. I don't know how but they can. Plus the xbox is so limiting with the 720p output. The only reason to get it is for the exclusives and rock band. I don't see why the controller has the same limitations though.
Dangerdog

The console and the PC use different "flight models" for the helicopters, even getting the 360 pad to work on the PC isn't going to give you the same fluid control that you get on the xbox.
The devs say they have no plan on changing the way choppers fly on the PC.

I was a PC gamer all my life until 6 months ago, joined xbox live. I'm awful at FPS games on a console, but for flying it's sooo much more precise and fun with a controller. I bought this for the pc thinking it'd be just as fun.. uh hell no, good old Dice decides to forbid me from having that same fun on a pc.

To those who can't see the point of playing with a controller:
Playing with a controller is MUCH more comfortable when you play games on your flatscreen TV (like I sometimes do).
I also have an xbox but I can max graphic settings (1080p on TV) with my pc.
And yes, you do have a disadvantage online, thats why I use it for singleplayer mostly.
@ Pr0sth3tic
Yes, I have the same experience. The community and overall feel on a console is way more fun than your avarage PC multiplayer match.

All I want is an answer, not a flame war.. does it support xbox 360 controller?
To answer the OP, NO.
BC2 on PC DOES NOT SUPPORT XBOX360 controller.
I've gotten it to mostly work by mapping the WASD to the left stick and mouse to the right stick, and all the corresponding buttons using a program called MotionJoy DS3 tool. This program even lets you use PS3 controllers and will emulate them as a xbox360 controller to your PC. If you have a bluetooth connection on your PC you can use them wirelessly as well. One thing, I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse but I can't use the dongle for the KB and mouse and the PS3 controllers at the same time. It has to load a special driver for the bluetooth dongle so you would need 2 separate dongles if you have other bluetooth devices you want to have connected to your computer at the same time as the wireless ps3 controller. or you can just use a USB cable to do it wired.
You can't get the primary/pistol to switch back and forth with Y like it does on console but you can map it out fairly close. I havent got the right stick to feel proper becuase on console when you zoom in with left trigger it lowers the look acceleration but it doesn't work like that on PC.
