DXDiag ^^^^^

Hello! I have a problem that has been going on for a week or two. I click on the CSS link, and the box pops up saying that it's loading. Then the screen changes resolution, flashes, then goes back to norm and nothing else happens. I have tried adding -autoconfig to the startup options but it doesn't help.

I have also tried verifying the cache, all is good. Uninstall and reinstall CSS doesn't work. Neither does uninstalling steam and reinstalling. I need some help. And yes, I have Vista 32bit.

Thanks in advance! -Doughnut

EDIT: Actually, I noticed I can not start Half Life 2: Deathmatch either. I'll have to wait for my AA3 to DL to see if it is Steam or just the HL2 engine.

EDIT 2: Alright. Must be CS:S and HalfLife2DM cause I can play Lost Coast fine. Hmm. No Idea whats wrong.

Nope! I had a comp with XP a couple years back but I hadn't discovered Steam until I got my headache Vista. I will probably up to 7 soon.

Defragging as I type, thanks for the response

ok did you happen to launch the game with the wrong resolution? sometimes it does that. try this
In STEAM, right click on CSS and choose "Properties".
In the generals tab choose "Set launch options..."
Now enter the following: -h 800 -w 600
Press "ok" and launch the game. This sets the resolution of the game within a window to 800x600. Your CSS should now load. It may look funny depending on your screen resolution but you can now be able to go into "Options" in the game and set your video options like you normally would.
seems to be related to "window mode"

you can also try this https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6218-USFX-5568 if that dont work

There is also this. search "steam.dll". If it comes up with 2, delete the one thats not in the C:/ProgramFiles/Steam folder.

also try if that dont work right click desktop-properties-settings-advance-troubleshoot- and then slide the bar to full.

Try running it in a window real quick.
Since you are now offline, tell me the results when you get back on.

So how would I go about setting it to start in a window without being able to even run the game?

EDIT: Nvm. -window does nothing. Bump?
