Error Connecting to Steam?

So I have recently been unable to launch a starport multiplayer game through hyperbol. The message says that it is unable to connect to steam to get my ships and belongings, etc. The game is up to date, and located in the same directory as it has been. One thing I have noticed is that the moment this started happening, I also stopped getting the intro video (it now just takes me straight to the menu when starting Hyperbol). I have tried forcing update through Steam, and I have also tried launching the game directly from the steam apps folder, neither of which meet with success. The dedicated server I am hosting has no problems connecting, nor synching to be "official". Any suggestions on a fix for this?

I have exactly the same problem/message... I tested with Windows XP, 7 & Cossover Games on a Mac os 10.6 .... I can't connect to the Starport. If one of the devs is reading that message, please answer us! I can make you a bug report if you give me the tools.

I like this game very much... but not when I can't connect.

got exact the same problem while my buddy can play >.> no clue what to do to fix it atm
