Game runs very slow on High setting on high-end PC

When running the game at the High setting, the game runs at 5-10 fps. Standard setting runs fine at 60 fps. Here are my specs:

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.10 GHz
ATI 4850
4GB ram

Please help, I do not understand why it is running so slow. My specs are significantly higher than the recommended specs.

What ati drivers are you using, I'm using the 10.1 ones? I have a single core amd64 3500+ and a hd4650 and I get higher fps then that at 1920x1080, not much higher though, 15-30 fps maybe.

I was using 9.7. Though, I just tried updating to 10.2 and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I'm assuming this must be an ATI thing, as i have the game on high with 1680x1050, and got more then 60 FPS (haven't actually looked at what the FPS is due to the fact i have vsyn on)

I had this same issue. It seems that the game will automatically select the highest possible level of antialiasing supported by your card and, depending on your hardware, kill the framerate in the process.
Open up your Catalyst Control Center and force a lower level of AA.

edit: Nevermind, that wasn't it. I was just on "standard" graphics and didn't realize until I posted.

just to add, i have just tried ep2, and it is working fine ? :/

ep 1 is still running a really low fps.

I was kinda after a fix, not a reply from somebody telling me i went to the second page in the forum to post on a previous thread (i already knew i had done that, but thanks anyway?!?)

I bought the pack on sale and i am unable to play ep1, i would rather start with ep1 as i assume the story follows over into ep2.
