A friend and I just bought Need For Speed Undercover to play online tonight but upon downloading and installing it, we are getting the following message:
"The Need For Speed Undercover server is not available at this time. Please try again later."
Did we just buy it on a bad night that possibly the servers are down for maintenance or does multiplayer not work in this game?
Thanks for any information.
edit: also an off-topic question that someone might know the answer to.. does an online multiplayer mode exist for a 1-on-1 highway race duel? Like in the single player portion where you need to stay ahead of the other person by a certain amount of distance?

Guess no one plays this game online anymore which is unfortunate. An EA forum admin said everything is working correctly, a live customer support representative from EA said there are still problems. Either way the online portion of the game is still not working.

Hey Firewall, I would contact Steam support if you bought the game recently to try and get a refund. I was able to get a refund after numerous emails to them. You can reference my Support Ticket Number, 1863-HJKV-1852, maybe it will help.
My thread regarding the issue on the EA forums was completely deleted, not closed or anything, it's just gone. Countless emails to Drew: Drew@needforspeed.com and Greg: Greg@needforspeed.com have provided empty promises so they've now lost a customer to the Need For Speed series for good.
I would also like to thank Steam for the support they provided me on an issue they don't have any control over.

Myself and one of my friends have had similar problems. We bought the game on Steam, and have never been able to connect to the servers to play on line. According to the EA rep, there is a server specifically for the Steam players, but neither me nor my friend have ever been able to connect to it.
This is really frustrating considering the main reason we got the game, was for the on line play.

Same boat. I've been in contact with EA support and they're putting my inquiry up the ladder to hopefully resolve this problem. Hopefully we can get the issue resolved.

I mainly play NFS: U for the offline/free-roaming play, but it would be good if they brought the server back up.

I got it because a friend of mine had it and I wanted to play on line with him. I'm also kinda' upset that I paid $10 to get what ammounts to a broken game from Steam. when I could have gotten the WORKING game from EA for the same price. I prefer using Steam to get my games, but if this is any indication of how things are going to work, then I'm not very impressed.
This needs fixed, that or I'd suggest we all demand our money back and get the game from EA where it actually works right.

Wouldn't worry, the game is pretty poor in comparison to Most Wanted. Just play that instead, plus it works online ;)

If it only were to be released on Steam... :\

After about 1 month in contact with both Steam and EA, never again.
The reason nobody on Steam is able to play online is because NFS-UC on Steam isn't patched to the recent version, it's at either 1.0 or 1.0.1.17 while the server is playing at 1.0.1.18, if you have a retail copy or the EADM version you can play online if you have the 1.0.1.18 update. The server is still there and is working.
I'm asking Steam if they can get into contact with EA and see about updating the game.

Why not find out whether the 1.0.1.18 update's files can be manually added to the steam version? That should allow you to connect ;)

You could probably find the update at File Shack or some other gaming/ download site, but the problem becomes that the installer for the update looks for the game files in Programs> EAGames> Need For Speed> xxx. If you install the game from Steam, the game files are in the "Steam Apps" folder, so the installer for the update will never find the game files. I suppose you can manually point the installer for the update to the Steamapps folder, but I have never been able to get it to work like that.

Hello staff, tohappen is the same with me, I bought the game and not play online, it's the error "The Need For Speed Undercover server is not available at this time. Please try again later." after seeing a poster of you in the forum started to get more and discovered that the version of Need for Speed: Undercover is that Steam uses the V1.0 it (I watched this game from the information found in the Windows registry, "regedit") and after seeing many people saying they can not play online I noticed that they use the steam version and any retail version, which makes me think that the theory of friend "OmegaUltima" is correct. I downloaded the paths more tbm unable to install it cause he not find the files, is weighing in to the game to Programs> EAGames> Need For Speed> xxx to test and see if it will work.
'm Sorry for any mistake I'm using Google Translator. xD

I downloaded the game Need for Speed: Undercover by EADM (EA Download Manager), did instação the game and try to play online is still the same error.
"The Need For Speed Undercover server is not available at this time. Please try again later."
I installed the updates v1.0.1.17 and v1.0.1.18 plus the message continued to appear, cinceramente not know what to do to play online, I am He started to believe that EA ended up with the online mode of NFS: U , the funniest of all that on the very site Needforspeed still see the publication of the game NFS: U. annoying to those who purchase the game wanting to play it online and come across a message.
- "The Need For Speed Undercover server is not available at this time. Please try again later." (You lost Money) ^ ^

That's bizare. It worked for me when I tried. I'll reinstall the EADM version and have a look. The server doesn't appear down though because the leaderboard statistics can still be viewed.
Make sure your firewall is allowing the game to play online and also make sure your router has ports TCP: 12683, 443, 5222, 5223 and UDP: 31928, 5222, 5223 open. You apparently don't need to install the *.17 patch first, just install the *.18.

You must be new here - Steam doesn't work that way. If you alter game files, steam will automatically download new ones that match its online servers.
