Possibly. I am going to wait until we are no longer in Beta to work on them, as there is a good chance VALVe will change a large portion of the new system during the Beta. I am planning on doing an L4D2 skin, and a light version of the current skin, but beyond that I have no definite plans. You?

Also, someone PLEASE move this to the 2010 UI Update board, and Sticky it. I found 2 other skins in the first page already, and sent them over here.

I actually put it here on purpose, solely because that forum will be destroyed once the Beta is over. While it would be possible for a mod to move the thread back to General, I feel that forum is far too hot right now, and this thread would vanish in minutes.

Hopefully we can get an actual repository going and get rid of this forum thread nonsense. I am open to suggestions from anyone on how to accomplish this, although I am leaning towards convincing VALVe to create a repository on their Developer Wiki and allow public, but moderated, access to it.

Hey, I really like your skin; improvement on the default. Only issue is, I kinda like how the Steam symbol is up there in the top right on the default. What is that, a waste of space? I think it's pretty cool myself. What do you all think?

I have never done a Steam Skin before, so I don't really know what I am doing. I am fluent with CSS, but this is a lot more complex.

I have managed to come up with this.
Screenshot: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5330/51621883.jpg

Its nowhere near finished, but I really don't have the skill to take it much further. If someone wants to get it all working and looking good, please go ahead.

To use it, extract the folder into "skins" in the Steam directory. Then select "Old Flat Green Steam" in Steam settings.

That's not bad looking.

Screenshot: http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/1952/serverbuttonskin.jpg

Notes:
Server button might overlap the download bar if you're using a small window size, I'm not sure how to fix that.
Text goes white with mouseover like the top buttons. No glow though.
I might play around with the size and placement of the button later on.
Original steamrootdialog.layout included just in case you forget to back it up yourself.

Hey eatpie, love your skin replacement.

Requesting the following:
Black text background (like in single chat windows) in group chat as well
If possible, changing the title windows of all the chat windows to '<Player> - Chat' or '<Groupname> - Chat' instead of the current skin where all windows start with Chat (which doesn't allow me to discern which window is what from the taskbar as they all look the same).
Friends list: completely black background as well, and the down arrow in-between the friends name and the status/game - to separate friends' name and game better. (in the no-avatars display mode)

Keep up the good work!

moved user account link down to be grouped with Avatar and friends links
changed online friend count to blue
Downloads view: Pause/Resume button moved above graph next to the associated text
Downloads view: Details and News links moved to below the logo banner
Download progress bars enlarged [status bar, downloads view]
Game Details view uses TDD's yellow border on most recent achievements
... Probably some other small things I've forgotten

Friends List & Chat

Avatar borders changed to be brighter and not as blurry [uses TDD's borders]
Font colours changed to be brighter, like before
usernames in bold, status and game spacing edited to not look cramped with the line above or below
Chat messages boxes have solid colour

Wish List:

Overlay tweaks, waiting for overlay to be fixed first
Red, Green, Yellow versions?

Special Thanks:

rthaut / Evil Incarnate are you making a skin yet? :P

I have been slowly working on a small modification of the current Beta skin. Nothing extensive, just some alternate colors and converting some links into buttons. I actually don't have many complaints with the current official skin; I just find the colors slightly off, so I am correcting them. The skin will likely for my personal use only, as the modifications I am making are quite minor.

Eventually I am sure I will work on some more detailed and unique skins, but I am currently concentrating my efforts on creating a skin repository for the community to use (as opposed to this forum thread nonsense). Ideally we will have a place just for Steam skins, and, with a minor effort on Vavle's part, it will become official and have links to it from several places in Steam and on the www.steampowered.com web site. Authors will be able to upload their skins, commit changes/revisions, create and update preview images, and have comments.

I guess this is related.

I finally got converted to using this over the old one... still getting used to some things. Got most things modded to how I had it before (Red = in-game, green = on-line, etc), however the only thing I haven't worked out is how to get the notification popups to move back to the top-left corner. Anyone know?

Also, letters with hanging bits (y, g) are cut off on the notifications. Why would that be?

With the latest Steam Beta update (see the Beta forum changelog), Old Flat Green Steam looks like this (with mini-icons enabled): http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/2576/56089573.jpg

Compare that to the regular Steam client: http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/9738/27129636.jpg

So it is obviously a work in progress, but once the 2010 UI leaves Beta, I will get back to work on Old Flat Green Steam and make it more accurate.

I'm working on one like that too..

Looks good. And I think its good that there are 2 different approaches to a classic Steam theme - it will give users more choices. It also means that if people want me to add something to mine, but I don't want to, then perhaps you might want to add it to yours instead, or if people want you to add something to yours, but you don't want to, then perhaps I might want to add it to mine instead.

I am waiting until Monday before I do any more work on mine though. Valve could easily change something in the next few days.

I am waiting till Monday Too..
Since its almost worthless to work on while the beta is going.

I did that last month... and its almost fully broken now.

I hope this gets made a sticky/pinned topic on Monday. There are bound to be lots of people looking for skins once they notice their current ones don't work anymore.

Yes, this needs to be sticky/pinned.

Alright, well I'm a complete neophyte at Steam skin building, but I really wanted to make a light skin for the new Steam UI. I've gotten pretty far, but I need some help with a couple issues with which I've been beating my head against the wall.

1) I want to remove the "See what's new" button completely from the UI.

2) This is the one that's really holding me up. On the Library page, once you set the Steam Client's background to be white, it makes the top of the gradient behind your list of games white, and goes all the way to black at the bottom, making it impossible to pick a font color that is clearly readable from top to bottom. Does anyone know how to either change the color of the bottom part of the gradient, or remove the gradient all together (leaving a white BG behind the text)?

Here is a screenshot (http://jwdphotography.com/photoshare/steamskin.jpg) of the skin as it is now, quite incomplete.

Is there any way we can request this topic to be made sticky? I don't remember reading anything about it in the forum rules/guidelines (although its been a while since I read that).

I think perhaps PMing a mod/admin about it might help. I scanned the forum rules, and didn't see anything encouraging or discouraging it.

That's most likely because the whole UI protocol is less than a few months old. People haven't had time to make something totally new.

^This, and it just came out of beta, some skin makers did not bother creating (in some cases updating) skins since each beta update had the potential to break any skins made during the beta period, now that it is out of beta, I'm sure you'll see a lot more variety and complex skins.

I really hope you'll manage to finish the work. I used Flat Ice skin and I can't stand this black/dark skin. It hurts my eyes and I can't wait for a light steam skin.

Yeah, looks incomplete but really promising.

Thanks, I'm taking another crack at it tonight. Going to delve into some of the other code files and see if they reveal any secrets. I'm with you, though, a dark skin on my computer is so jarring because everything else is very light.

EDIT: I made a lot of progress tonight in the Library page, and really started to learn how to use the dev tools. Makes life easier. If anyone is interested in my progress, here's a screenie (http://jwdphotography.com/photoshare/steam2.jpg). Clearly, there's still more to be done (like get rid of that border), but it's coming along.

Formal request for all your skinners out there, could you add back in the Servers/Friends/Settings/Support/News buttons across the bottom when you do your skins? Or at least offer it with and without the buttons? Button Mod skin does this, so you can too! :D

Here is an updated "mockup" of what I would like my "Old Flat Green Steam" skin to look like:

http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/4958/24987631.png
(Note: This is just an image. It isn't an actual Steam skin.)

I have posted this so that people know what I am trying to aim towards. I don't plan on making OFGS just a simple 're-colour'.

good work, I look forward to using the classic skin once again. Keep us posted of your progress.

Is there a good tutorial or guide around for the basics of getting started making a skin? I've searched and either my search terms are too broad or I'm just having trouble finding them.

I'm competent enough with photoshop and editing resource files, I just have no idea where the skin files should reside in order to test them!

I just finished version 1 of my light theme "New Ice". Please report any problems or suggestions to me, I know this isn't perfect yet, so I am very open to ideas. Hope you like it! The next version will have a from scratch style sheet, laid out in a much more logical way, leading to easy customization. Once that's done, I intend to go through every element with a fine toothed comb, and get it to be exactly how I want it. Lastly, I'll need to learn how to customize the actual layout, and move things around a bit.

I like it! Probably the first light skin I've seen for the new UI. However, IMHO, I believe that:

The blue selection color should be a little more aqua-ish.
The "<accountname>'s account" should be a little bit to the right, above the "elbow" of the Steam icon.
The favorite glyph looks weird.

Nice theme. However, I do think you need to modify the colors a bit. Specifically, the gradient. Pure white actually makes the Steam window confusing as everything seems to be solidified. I really like the light gray gradient on top, I think if you darken the white by a shade or two so its almost gray but not-quite, would really help the visibility of the theme. Right now, its too bright.

The coloring on the friends window is also inconsistent, see: http://i39.tinypic.com/1zeyzpg.jpg
The header is too light compared to the window that is below it, unless that was intended? Also, as I stated above, tweaking the gradient would improve the readability of text and make it easier on the eyes.

Also perhaps use Segoe UI as the default font? :)

Really like the theme, hope my two-bits were helpful/constructive. :D

Cheers!

As far as the backgrounds go, I personally really like the pure white (I based a lot of this off of the Zune software). However, in the next version, the styles sheet will be very easy to edit, so creating a modified scheme for you wouldn't be a problem at all.

The chat window: No that isn't intentional. I was trying to get the various message boxes (Go Offline, etc.) to not have the black banner at the top, and I guess I broke that in the process. Definitely in the "to fix" file.

I'm definitely considering a font swap, and Segoe is high on the list, as is the Zune modified version Zegoe (http://www.istartedsomething.com/20071114/zegoe-zune-font/)

Thanks for the input! Hopefully the changes won't come too far down the road, but I am pretty busy these days.

The mod isn't deleting itself; it is Steam updating/reverting it's files to match the most current ones on the servers. Since the mod is implemented by overwriting files outside of the skins directory, there is no way to make it permanent.

Hopefully VALVe will fix the new UI so that it uses the layout files from the skins directory; until then you just have to keep re-applying the mod whenever Steam removes it. I have been in contact with John Cook on the issue, but they seem rather busy with their other projects, so I wouldn't expect that fix any time soon.

2. List View (http://jwdphotography.com/photoshare/steam/listv2.JPG)

5. In Game Overlay (http://jwdphotography.com/photoshare/steam/overlayv2.JPG)

Download:
New Ice v2 (http://jwdphotography.com/photoshare/steam/newicev2.zip)

A lot has changed in this version, though the spirit is the same.
1. Avatar and Friends has been moved to the top, as requested
2. Fonts are more readable
3. Large blue gradients are all gone now (Settings looks way better because of it)
4. Segoe is the font for all elements
5. Buttons and other elements have been redone from scratch
6. Modifying colors to taste is very easy due to reorganizing steam.styles.

Shadow: The lack of borders was intentional, and if anything the games list blends more now, so you might be a bit disappointed there, but I prefer it this way. Sorry!

If anyone runs across weird looking screens or other problems, please screen cap them and let me know so I can fix the issue!

Known Issues:
1. In Game Overlay UI does not like dark text on light backgrounds, so on any element that shares appearance with the non-in-game version, the text looks pretty poor. I believe this is a Steam issue, and cannot be fixed from my end (Someone please prove me wrong)
2. The "Add Friends" button on the friends window references "friendsdialog.res" which does not exist, so I can't modify the colors. Therefore, it is rather hard to see.
3. Some graphics (Like the cloud and star icons in list view) don't look write right on a light window, but I can't find the graphics, so I can't modify them to look better.

Trust me, when I started, I had very little clue what I was doing. I'd suggest this:
1. Find steam.styles
2. Back it up
3. Start changing stuff and see what it does

The more you play with it, the more it makes sense, and it really isn't that difficult once you figure out a few basic things. If you have any questions once you delve in, feel free to send a PM, and I'm happy to help!

You have to download the GCFScape tool (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/GCFScape) and then locate \Steam\steamapps\winui.gcf. There, in the Friends folder you can extract ChatRoomDlg.res (group chat window) and ChatRoomDlgFriend.res (the single-user chat window). You can also find the FriendDialog.res there, which is the main resource file for the Friends list. Keep in mind that it isn't possible to do real-time editing of those files, you have to restart Steam to apply changes.

Hey guys, I'm just wondering why there's no skins like the old L4D skin for the previous UI, I mean I LOVED that skin and none of the new ones seem to be character orientated, is this because there's trouble with the background? I can understand this as in one option you do get the game picture in the background.

But in this case surely LOTS of people use the minimalist list option like I do? I guess it's probably pretty screwy with the code but I for one think there's a definate lack of steam skins! Mainly by steam itself, I mean come on steam, ONE default skin? You had at least 4 in the last one! Oh well, I think you guys are doing good work, but I'd like to see a L4D2 or more character/game orientated one! (Like the miku-miku one!)

Thanks!

I still have plans to create a Left 4 Dead 2 skin (I still get emails about my L4D skin daily), as well as a proper TF2 skin. I am really excited about the TF2 skin due to the colorscheme of the game.

Unfortunately, the UI is still very limited in what it can do, as most skinners who have attempted to do more than simply change colors have noticed. Having to overwrite files outside of the skins directory, as well as the fact that some changes are not possible, due to those files also being loaded in memory from the GCFs, make it very hard to do any advanced changes. I also have another large skin-related project in the works, so I just simply have not had time to work on the skins.

As for the lack of skin options included with Steam, I was once told when trying to get my L4D skin to be released as an official skin that the guys at Valve did not like have to keep up with more than one skin, so it was no surprise that the new UI only has one default option.

I'm not sure if it's supported (yet). Been searching google and haven't found any answers... Since I don't use/have a mac I can't really help. But I would suggest looking in the steam directory (if there is such thing on mac) and look for a skins folder.

While I could be wrong, I don't think it is. I asked a friend to test my skin on his mac and he had difficulty finding where to put it as there was no skins folder that he could find and when he made one there was no option to select my skin :(

Going slightly off-topic...
I agree Darth Tealc, if someone could try editing the default skin files it might work - since in the graphics folders there are some mac pictures, such as close, maximise and minimise. So it might work. If anyone has a mac and would like to try - please do.

(If you mess anything up with the skin, either make a backup before or just re-download steam.)

There is no way that you can use skins on the mac version of steam. As of right now they are unsupported.

I am going to start adding an "updated" field to the list for each skin; I could use some help making sure this list is up to date. Most skin authors PM when they update their skin, but I don't have enough time lately to monitor the threads of all the other skins to ensure this list stays up to date.

So if anyone knows of any skins that are missing from this list, or skins that are on this list that have been updated, could you please PM that information to me?

Was kinda bummed about the buttons mod skin, so I updated it myself.

Changes:

- Moved the account info stuff to the right hand corner
- Fixed the download bar (it looked ugly)
- Added Darth Tealc's Small/large steam arrows (really hope you don't mind)

This is my first time ever working with skins, so ya it might be abit buggy.

Thanks to everyone who has already PMed about their skins; it really helps me keep this list up to date.

I have restructured the list to prioritize skins (instead of authors), and added the Updated and Version fields. If you could include version numbers when you PM me, that would be awesome. Obviously if any of the file names include a version number I can just use that (which is what I did for some of the skins on the list, so the version number may me incorrect/outdated).

I know that TDD is working on something in that regard, also i think my skin is not to bad with the tabs, although will have to wait for the details and what not to be updated on this page for mine.. that or just click my name and search for threads started by me,

The skins updated on August 20 and later are probably the only ones that have been updated to support tabs. That would be Savage Alien's Savvy UI, my Compact skin, Darth Tealc's OFGS skin and SilverMink's Button Mod. Ph0X_b01 should have a working version of Minimal Steam UI released as well. And TDD's Enhanced Steam is currently being worked on, as previously stated.

I have tried many times to get this (and the old thread) stickied. It is simply not possible, as there are too many threads in this forum that could be sticked based on the same merit as this thread. However, as there is not room for all of those stickies, none of the "deserving" threads shall ever be stickied.

That said, as long as this thread stays active, it's quite possible for it to remain among the first several pages, as well as being the top result when properly searching for Steam skins.

I try to update the thread at least daily; the only trouble I have is when skin authors only post in their own threads, as I simply do not have the time to monitor that many threads on a regular schedule. I try to subscribe to them all, but it really helps me when authors (or other users) PM about new and updated skins.

Well besides for the new tabs breaking skins, it also appears that some skins never bothered to change the download bar location.

Examples:
Button mod - [-B-] (http://mgofiles.com/Mink/Pictures/Skins/Other/Button%20Mod.png)
L.A.S.E.R - Kingo64 (http://mgofiles.com/Mink/Pictures/Skins/Other/L.A.S.E.R.png)

I suppose 1280x1024 is reasonably high.. also in my theme i thought i implemented that the download bar was a limit away from the edge.. no matter if you re sized the window.. might turn down my rez to see, (personally i think all should be above at least 1024x768 resolution though)

That is simply from the skin being old and not having that feature implemented.. if it was simply placed in a layout option, in a specified area that would not be happening..

Because it does not have a lot of ratings on it.. apparently it never will be stickied, as some people are not into steam skinning in general. But a lot of people don't even know its possible.

I would love to see more skins in creation, but does not seem to be happening. I will most likely be making a second skin soon, as I don't know what to do with my current one now -Blue Pulse, I would like to update it for the new year.. but no ideas

+ to this being stickied though.. although it will never happen -_- since its impossible to rate threads in general steam discussion now.. or so I have noticed

I think with a slight few changes, that would be a great skin.. for example I think the top sort of graphic, should be made for bottom of client.. as well, otherwise looks a bit bland but other then that and maybe slight tab modifications.. that would be great,

Either way it should go on the list and also.. since when did FPSbanana change its name?

All of these skins need to be updated for the Steam Wallet and the "Recommend" button in the Details view.

The problem with the Steam Wallet is that there is no way to actually test it unless you start using your own Wallet (the last time I checked at least). I myself don't have any need for it and I don't know anyone who uses it, therefore I don't know if my skin works properly with it. I have informed my users that I need help with testing but no one has responded yet. I asssume that this is a situation that several other skinners here recognise.

I have added the skin "Invert" to the list; it is a lovely skin, 2SeeKU. I myself have always been partial to light skins, which is why I rarely used my popular skins like Left 4 Dead, RoyDarkle, and Carbon. Instead, I had several light skins that I never released publicly. I never released them because so few people expressed interest in light skins; instead, most gamers seem to want everything in black (unfortunately).

I also wanted to add that I have finished my bachelor's degree (hooray!), so I can get back to making Steam skins. I had one about 50% completed, but had to put it on hold for the past 8 months so I could keep up with my studies and my internship. I hope to resume work on that starting next week, and should have it released before March.

Finally, as has been hinted, I am indeed working on the TF2 skin, and I believe it will become even more popular than my Left 4 Dead skin was. I am using the first skin (the one that is about half done) to see just how far I can push the 2010 UI; I hope to be able to fully re-create the TF2 skin I have mocked up, although I fear several aspects of the skin will not be possible.

I'd love to see the "Flat - Obsidian" skin ported to the new version of Steam. The new Steam UI is SO bloated and has huge useless borders and that annoying diagnol ticking in the title bar that shimmers on LCD screens.

The thing that annoys me the most about the new UI is you can no longer have separate categories in the small mode (I used to have a games list and a tools list and a media list.) And if you try and favorite the Source SDK, it won't show up in the small mode, which makes me have to expand the thing to full mode and waste my time clicking several sub menus just to open it, EXTREMELY irritating.

Agreed, somebody put that on the list ASAP :D

Finally a skin, like Old Flat Green Steam, that does more than changing fonts.

Nice work thanks

I would like to have my skin submitted please. I posted it to this forum a year or so ago but maybe it was just missed.

The skin name is Hemisphere. To blue skies with orange taint.

- Notifications open from the side
- Obvious colour changes: Grey(Offline) Blue(Online) Orange(InGame)
- Graphically changed some clickable icons
- Minor font changes to Friends
- Etc etc etc...

I've included a ReadMe file aswell for people that might not know how to install a skin. I was a noob once too...

I would seriously recommend getting a deviantART account and uploading it there. Most people no longer trust files uploaded to MU, esp. (no offence) those written in low-grade English.

MU??? And how is my file written in "low-grade" English?

hmmwhatsthisdo

MU is an abbreviation for Megaupload.

But never mind about the low-grade English part (that was me not paying attention). People are notorious for uploading things to Megaupload (and similar sites) that are of "questionable" status. I'm not accusing you of doing anything wrong, it's just that many people don't trust files from those sites.

I am wondering if Valve can do something about their webpages viable through Steam when using a custom skin. I would like to have the same colour of avatar borders and fonts in the Community, while surfing page to page, as I have in Friends list.

My first idea would be to put a theme selector on the loading/home webpage, or on the editing page of your profile.

That is not to bad a looking theme, could do with effecting more of the client in general.. but it's a nice little improvement that adds over the top of what is already there.

As for making things more obvious colours.. unless the creator is thoroughly against it.. it is not to hard to locate the online, offline and in game name colors.. and border images and change it for a personalized version for yourself..

Either way I am sticking to my skin blue pulse.. nice to see a new skin around though

First question is what os are you on? If it is mac, mac still seems to lack support for skins.. that I know of. As for steam on a different directory to operating system.. I run steam off my H:\, so if you're on windows.. putting it in the skins file should easily make them show up. If mac.. well you have to wait till steam allows skins I suppose

If p then q

Steam skins are all user submitted and should only be downloaded from the link the user submits with his/her skin. Steam has stopped including skins since they've changed to the new UI.

I personally recommend avoiding any website that ends with 'banana', my anti virus program picks up large numbers of alerts from these sites...

I don't think that Steam for Mac lacks skin support (or the default skin wouldn't work.) I think skins on the Mac are just done differently due to path differences in Unix (DOS/Windows use C:\, Unix/Linux use /).

Many Source games had similar problems when Linux server support for them was initially released, case sensitivity wrecked havoc in them an caused issues like animations and sounds failing to work.

If I had an Intel Mac, I'd take a look, but the fastest Mac I have is a PowerPC G4 733 MHz, and that won't run Steam.

Well I know there is some support.. although paths are different which would require rewriting a bit of themes.. but putting [OSX] or something along those lines differentiates the code to mac.. for steam therefor duplicating whole code.. and adding the appropriate tag would be a start.. but I am a windows user.. so I can't even look into developing one that works for macs as well..

I think Virtualbox supports running Mac OS X as a virtual machine, or at least the server version. You could install Steam for mac in it and test it that way.

Suggest you make the colours a bit more Vibrant as it's quite difficult to see Friend's Names etc.

Also make sure the Camo goes right along the top of the Steam Window to as far as you stretch it - because i tried the Camo skin & found that the camo only went halfway & so i was left with a ridiculous looking steam window that wasn't made for larger monitors.

If you'd like to make the camo skin go all the way along the top, who's stopping you? I use a 24" monitor, and I have never had to maximize any of my windows. I think it looks good with the edge fading out, it has more of a 3D look to me.

Most of the skin changing is done with code. The only things you photoshop are the avatar frames and top background (aka clienttexture2)...

It'd be nice if Steam supported multiple skins like the old version did so it doesn't keep overwriting the skin with the default when you restart Steam, and you can have multiple skins in a sub folder without having to overwrite them every time.

Download my Camo skin from the front page of this post, it has a readme to fix your problem. If you just paste the skin folder in Steam like you are doing, then yes, bye bye to default.

Once you follow the steps from my ReadMe file, you will be able to choose which skin you'd like to use from the simple drop-down menu.

Keep in mind though, that that only works with skins that modify colours and a few .tga files. The skins that contain more major changes to the design will more often than not require replacing of default files, due to bugs in the skinning system.

When installing/using/making a skin properly, it will not change a single default file.

This statement is incorrect, a few default files are affected depending on custom content that is included, steamrootdialog.layout is one of the three main files I know that required me to write custom ones for the default theme.. also i found sometimes layout changes with extra zones would also not work within steamrootdialog.. inside theme even if zone is specified unless in original also..

In other words.. the skinner to do things properly has to include the extra things, and either turn them off.. or as i did make it so default includes the buttons. That then replaces the particular files in resource. The skin itself still gets placed in the skin zone, and selected within steam.

Also another method rather then just deleting piston.tga.. which can tend to lead to small errors/ or steam randomly downloading it again.. edit it and change the alpha layer to make it completely transparent... or in a theme set height and width as someone said.. to 0, hell for ages steam did that when they went from beta to actual. The beta logo was simply just hidden rather then removed which was done via width = 0 height = 0 in the specific layout section of steamrootdialog.layout

Good to hear you will change things, although its a simple invert of your other skin i see.. by the looks of it. If you like the fade though.. why don't you have the stretch command in place, with say

2="image_scale( x0, y0, x1, y0+175, graphics/clienttexture2)" of which i have the fade in the alpha layers itself of the custom clienttexture2 so when steam is resized, the fade is still where i want it to be the whole time.. which is close to the end but enough room for piston in my case.

Just a small suggestion, take or leave it x].. i also run a 24inch screen, but i run steam large for the sake of doing it, of which if i had small images, I think it would drive me to an annoyed state similar to the other person.. then again nothing stopping him editing it himself.. now that I have put the knowledge out there..

the edit is done in steamrootdialog.layout within the theme itself, just to throw that out there also

I am not here to argue. When installing/using/making a skin properly, it will not change a single default file.

What ever files are placed within a skin folder will not alter the defaults. Files such as "steamrootdialog.layout" etc. are found in the Layout folder of a skin.

if p then q - it seems your coming across as a bit patronising in this thread.

The whole Idea of skinning etc should be used as an expression where people can express their designs. Your constant hammering "i know more than you do - so shut up" is somewhat putting people off from starting their own skins.

Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a gallery/bank of designers that made steam skins - Yes! it would be.

Skinning is a learning curve, patronising someone will only put a downer on things & then we'll end up with rubbish steam skins because an individual stopped the movement of "Willing artists" wanting to make steam a whole lot better.
