Right im new to Steam just been using Steam for games for a week or so. What is Steam Cloud? What I know that it saves settings, save states on a server by steam. I had to reinstall Windows 7 (clean installation) due to driver problems and whole PC becoming unstable, anyways how do I get all my save state back? and my skins etc?

You hope and pray patch2 tomorrow fixes things.;) Right now stuff keeps disappearing, saves, collectibles, XP. Not really the way Steamcloud is supposed to work.
You didn't backup you steamapps file or saves before reformatting? That would have saved you having to redownload all your games.

I knw i thought steam cloud will work lol but looks like it failed lol. Didnt have to redownload. I got retail version of the game so I had to activate it once onto my steam account before. I dont like downloading games, i prefer the physical disc over a digital copy. Save Bandwidth and easier to install again lol.

Yes, I prefer discs for installation myself even of Valve games. It goes much faster than hours or days DL-ing. Actually this is really the first time I've heard of such a mess up in Steamcloud. Strange.

I have Lost Planet and aliens vs predator i like steam prices sometimes what they offer you know like packages, latest one i seen was THQ not bad for the price but that would take days to downloads and loads of blan dvd discs to make backup lol. Its strange that my game does not get loaded as it should do from steam cloud. I think AVP has been rushed into market without proper testing even with Steam Cloud and achivements its not good.

btw i would buy steam games but im that sort of person, need cover and disc lol coz I like having a collection of games stacked up in my funky DVD rack loool. If steam did cover arts to then I would have downloaded and purchased loads of games rather than having blank covers lol.

I do like my discs though for new games. Check out getting a stand alone HD for backing up you games. They are portable in case of fire, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, alien invasion.;)

Exactly the same's happened to me. I reinstalled Windows 7 yesterday (after the RC ran out), backed up most things but assumed Steam Cloud would take care of AVP. There's no sign of my old saves yet, does anyone know how to trigger Cloud to download them?

Maybe even verifying the game cache. Not really sure which. I kinda like Steamcloud but it needs to save locally also ALL the time not just some of the time.

I just did a reinstall of my PC, upgraded from Win XP to Windows 7.
Had to verify my game cache on a lot of games (as i backed up my entire Steamapps folder and then did a fresh install of steam on my new OS)
Including AvP, but anyway so I run it and it didn't even give me my control settings back nor my saves... So I am really annoyed atm since I lost all my saves (already finished the game... but still this is annoying for when I want to let a friends play through a specific level or something)
