Care to tell me how "alive" FFXI still is?

Been wanting to come back (need to re-activate my old retail account), but lack of community will really put me off :/

I haven't played FFXI in a good while but I think the community is still very strong. :)

Mehe, that's what i keep hearing, but it doesn't really tell much ;/

Kinda with hopes with FFXIV comming, that FFXI has a bit more life, but i'de rather have a good answer that comming back a be a bit disapointed :P
