View Full Version : Cannot Launch the Game

I bought and installed this game yesterday and I have yet to play it. Every time I try to launch the game, a white rectangular box appears on the upper left hand side of my screen and then it disappears. This is the only thing that happens, basically the game tries to start up but then just doesn't. When I have my task manager open when launching the game, the executable file appears in the "processes" tab but then disappears when the white box disappears (it only stays for a few seconds).

I have tried uninstalling the game and I have actually installed it 3 times now. I've also tried restarting my system many times as well as my modem (though the modem should not be involved). I've also updated my video card's driver. I'm running Windows XP SP3, 4 Gigs of ram (3.25 recognized by XP), 9800 GT Nvidia video card with the latest drivers, and I have plenty of room on my hard drive.

I've posted the above for steam but wanted to see if any of the actual users came across this and how they dealt with it. Thanks!

Do you see security event 577 (windows event viewer, security)?

No I do not see any events under security but our problems sound a lot alike i.e. momentary white screen then nothing happening!

Processor ?

Intel E6750 Core2Duo 2.66GHz, and I also checked my system before buying the game under EAs "Can I run it?" online verification system.

Have you all sent your problems to Steam/EA as well? Anyone working on this? Please someone post the solution when you're able to play!

Bump because I still cannot get the application to run!

So is this game like not XP compatible or something?

Should we keep waiting or ask for a refund? Clarification please!

Bump, I still have no luck. I've read other complaints of being kicked off and such problems but I cannot even start the game which is really weak! How can they not have resolved this issue yet? How much longer?

My fix, just implemented:

I had CTD when starting the game...never saw a game start except for last week or so of beta testing.
Always got security event ID 577 but I still do get this even after the fix.
Always got a directinput crash when running dxdiag - this was the key.

Fixed the dxdiag crash on directinput by disabling a couple of HID devices in hardware manager. The couple of devices were devices I don't even use anymore. I was able to keep my Razer DeathAdder mouse as a HID device.

After disabling the two HID devices and rebooting, dxdiag no longer fails and the game starts properly.

Hope this helps someone.
BTW, no USEFUL help from EA Support.
