well i dont think it was my first, but I played CA, and as on all my games, I didnt hack. Its just some kind of thing in my head that says if you have to hack...dont play. If you want to hack, find another game. So I dont hack, and that game was fun...aside from, the hackers.

800 dollars wouldn't cover the price of a DX chip alone when they came out. My first DX was a DX2 66 and including 8MB of fastpage and no O/S the system was 2400 dollars without a monitor. I built and sold computers throughout the 1990s and 800 dollars was about 400 dollars less than low end systems went for in 1999, let alone 1993.

I DL'ed Wolfenstein through id's BBS based on the reputation they had made for themselves with the Commander Keen series, and vomited after the first time playing it.

When HL2 came out I booked the week off work and bought a 939 Athlon64. Didn't even finish the single player; preferred Far Cry in every regard (HL2 sucked on nVidia cards for the first ~6 months, and I had a $640 geforce Ti4800 that I had bought earlier that year just to run HL2 better.

I don't think any FPS has more of my hours yet than the original Duke Nukem 3D. At 5:30 The old LAN at work turned into the best arcade in town.

I played doom but the first REAL FPS I played constantly was Duke3d on my Pentium 100mhz 4MB of RAM and a 14.4Kbps modem BABY!! :D That was back in 1996. I played that ♥♥♥♥ on a matchmaking system called KALI. We ranked up by using a website called Theladder or something and whenever you lost or won you reported it so you could see your rank overall. I made it to #1 in the whole wide world :D I was so proud and such a loner nerd ):

What makes you think a lot of people's first FPS was combat arms? Combat arms is still considered a new fps to me (never played it, not into free fps but I think it came out at around 2007, WHICH is considered new to me).
I still play 2009-2010 games, it's just that making combat arms sound like an ancient top hit sounds pretty ridiculous.
