Hello there steam!

RESTRICTION: Multiple Direct3d loaded

I've been seeing this phrase here quite a lot lately. Could you guess why? Well, punkbuster has kicked me from literally every single server I've joined for the past 3 days now :D

After about a minute of tantalizing and enjoyable gameplay on maxed out settings, I am kicked from the game with a "RESTRICTION: Multiple Direct3d loaded" message. I have literally spent every bit of my free time the last 3 days to try and fix this problem, as I listen to all of my buddies own it up in games of their own!

I'm just a bit curious here, as I have tried just about everything you could possibly do with a computer to attempt to resolve this. Has anyone else on the entire planet had this issue, or am I just doomed to browse forum posts from 2002 for the rest of my life? I couldn't find a single instance of this on any BC2 forum, let alone a post newer than 2008.

I have:

-Rebooted
-Reinstalled BC2 (3 times :D)
-Tried to install with EA downloader
-Unistalled and updated my video drivers (2 times)
-Located every single file on my PC with the three letters "D3D" and deleted them, then reinstalled Direct 3D
-Uninstalled everything to do with punkbuster and reinstalled with PBSetup (5 times :D)
-Validated files on steam (4 times)
-Opened a support ticket with punkbuster on tuesday and continued to wait for a reply for 3 days (hasn't come yet :D)
-Opened a Live-chat with EA support, only to have the representative disconnect after having me wait for an hour, only to have him tell me to simply switch my x64 OS to x32 (wat), reinstall punkbuster, and update my video drivers! Karim Abdul Muhammad Nine-eleven then proceeded to disconnect as I sat with my problem unresolved.

What I havn't done at this point:

-Deleted system32
-Inserted bullet into monitor
-Applied thin metal blade to Radial Artery

So, has anyone else gotten this message from punkbuster, or more importantly found a solution
Just wondering...

I'd like to thank EA, Dice, and who could forget those rascals over at Punkbuster! I love you guys!!! No seriously, I want those 3 days of my life back.

Lol ya obviously weedo didn't read what you wrote. SOrry I don't really have anything to offer but wanted to say are you sure that's exactly what the error says? Sounds like broken english to me and doesn't even make any sense at all, I mean that's not anywhere near a proper sentence. That's like saying "Kicked: too varied sounds graphics" or something else nonsensical.

brb in 2 minutes. ill get kicked again real quick and correct it accordingly. never fails to kick me afterall :)

EDIT: Well I'm getting "connection to server lost" for every server right now but I'm pretty sure that's the exact message anyway.

whats your os system/other specs

I have no issues with PB and i usually do

also you could try deleting dx9 files in system32 (haven't done it personally) but bc2 installs directx and I personally have like 10 different versions of dx9 on my windows 7 comp - it could be somethings wrong in the file structure and ends up launching several at once

All probably wrong just thinking out "loud"

when you deleted BC2, did you remove the residual files from the registry?

Also, it wouldn't hurt to post your specs and what dx you're using.

Eh? turn it back on and let me know if it happens again, this might be FAQ worthy. If I get more people with more confirmations, I'll add it.

and if that doesnt fix it, and u have xfire, turn that off too. in fact turn off steam ingame and turn every other process off, then play.

what programs/processes/other would be considered directx3d. i had itunes helper process on, could that count since itunes has 3d elements(cover flow/music visualizer) i also had fire fox and steam open. however steam is what i got it through and i disabled in game. could FF cause this? also wat else does qualify as direct 3d. also after turning pysx off do i need to do anything else to lock that it?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Some games require pycX so while this is a temp solution DICE needs to fix it :/ just make it so the error is acceptable for play and disable the kick for it.
Ugh Punkbuster sucks

:( Im having the same problem, im gunna try the PhysX thing, hopefully it will work, ive seen a few people on other forums mention about the nvidia stereoscopic 3d stuff, disabling that apparently will help :S

EDIT: UGH, really annoying me now, i disabled the PhysX, had a go, and it still kicked me :|

EDIT2: Ok, this time i tried it with Xfire off, still kicked me :| I do hope a fix gets known soon, it worked fine for me in the beta :|

Re-earthing this dead thread because I want to HIGHLIGHT that alot of gaming laptops are having the SAME ISSUE.

The nvidia optimus platform has intel graphics for battery use and a NVIDIA gpu for gaming. Its continuously kicking me because I have 2 gpus, and its not like I can open the laptop up and remove the intel gpu. Its bloody soldered there.

FFS they need to remove this kick. Every server has PB enabled.

Jesus, a 420 in a laptop, lol. That thing must be able to roast a turkey.

Just a weird coincidence possibly indicative of a bigger issue than just a bug with BC2. This was in a recent DOW2 update:
"Fixed an issue with graphics device capability detection for NVIDIA Optimus-based notebooks"

Tedflip
12-04-2010, 09:22 PM
It runs BC:BC2 fine (most settings are medium with VSYNC), and the bottom of the laptop, when I play most games, it doesn't get too hot. The only problem is the Punkbuster kick thing. Are you referring to the 420 or 420m?

I've never played DOW1 or DOW2, so I wouldn't know...

Same issue here with my new laptop, has a 325m with the Optimus crap mixing it with an Intel HD chip for battery usage. My desktop with an HD 5850 runs the game fine no PB issues at all, this runs the game perfectly with that same damn PB kick "Multiple Direct3D Loaded-A."
Just like COD4 and it's constant PB kicks if you have the Steam Overlay running now.

Not a new issue guys ... Alienware m11x2 owners have not been able to play on PB servers for months now. PB and Nvidia have been bouncing blame for months with no desire to deal with it.

The good news is Nvidia finally working on a fix and it looks Nvidia 265 series drivers have fix

some info for you there from the alienware users:

My goodness this problem seems to be a hellish nightmare. I just installed BC2 last night so I've only been dealing with this problem for a day but it seems that it has been going on for months now. All those poor souls.

Nvidia repeatedly claims to be coming out with a driver fix but it looks like the current info posted yesterday is this:

"Sorry guys. The driver was pushed back to the first week of January. I deeply again express my sorrow for the delay in getting a driver out to you all." http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=178208&st=0

Will be waiting for these new nVidia drivers to solve the problem hopefully

I bought this game about two months ago. I've only been able to play these last few weeks. Only way around the Multiple Direct3d Loaded is to use older drivers. Currently I'm using 189.64 drivers and haven't got kicked yet! I guess this will have to do till Nvidia releases new drivers, because these older driver don't allow me to play half the games I own... sacrifice many to play one lol.

I have a 420m and having the same problem, finally got BFBC2 downloaded and working to find that I was being kicked after about 3 minutes from every server for the same reason as everyone above. On the Dell XPS, you can't revert back to the old drivers as far as I know because they're customized by the manufacturer (in my case dell) for this specific machine so I have to get them from Dell where only the latest drivers are available. Anyone got any ideas for people in out situations?

did you happen to play around with something called SoftTH? a software solution similar to Eyefinity or hooking up multiple monitors to your computer or laptop? If you did you have to delete the directx 9 file you ploped into your bf folder, then punkbuster will be fine again.

its sad that these 'avid gamers' dont allow poor people to use a software solution so they can use multiple monitors to play the game. we all that are poor dont have the money to fork out for 3 exact same monitors and a new couple of video cards to include gaming support within their qualified drivers. i hope someday softth will get approved to pass punkbuster like it did in all source engine games that use VAC.

According to people on the official Battlefield forums this is a problem with laptops that have two GPU's (Usually an intel graphics accelerator and then a high-end nvidia card) and nvidia's optimus system.

This is a known bug and I *hope* that they are working on this. I recently bought an alienware m11x and was very disappointed to find that because of this punkbuster bug, Bad Company 2 is unplayable online at the moment. Again, I really hope that nvidia works with punkbuster to fix this.

Just to add to this for you. I was getting the same problem when i had two graphics cards in my computer which were different GPU's. I was using softTH to render the graphics and I used to get this error when I played battlefield. My fix was to buy an amd eyefinity capable card and throw the other two in the bin :)

Oh man, just tried playing BC2 again and got BUMPed out of the game because of this error: see screenshot (http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576678597581833738/55A2F5A073CCDD43EC2086C4E25C26E7FC426497/).

How is this still a problem?

And, yes, I've updated Punkbuster.

Update: I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and it's been working since. In my defence, I had the most "up to date" drivers according to Dell's driver website. Had to go off reservation to fix my problem.

Get the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Also, make sure your version of punkbuster is up to date for the game.

That should be enough to get you going ;)
