Just to clear this up as I can't find a straight answer anywhere:

Is the ARG officially over? As in, we are almost positive there will be no more to this? Because as far as I can tell the new BBS simply led to the 2 images and that was it, no hidden countdown bars and no more Portal updates?

I'm not sure about the ARG. It would seem that it was an attempt to stir up more interest before the game was officially announced. And the image said the coop trial is over, so I'm assuming the ARG is indeed over.

Hmm, well it certainly did get my attention! It's been months since I have played Portal so this was an interesting way to come back to it.

I'm still a little disappointed it didn't have a more climatic ending because this seemed like a big lead up to such an abrupt announcement, but at least I know can look forward to the sequel! :D

Well, it did say something about moving on to the live fire test....

Maybe Valve is going to forcefully try to stage a hostile takeover of the world, and only we, the gamers, will survive by barricading ourselves, because of their warnings?!

I wonder if HL2:Ep2 will be updated soon. Y'know, no changes to the ending sequence or something, just an intermediary addition like the radios. Because that would be an excellent start to an ARG about HL2:Ep3.

Please Valve! I am very happy Portal 2 has been announced, but I'm absolutely dying to hear something about Episode 3!

Will we see Gears of War 3, a new Metal Gear Solid, Infinity Ward’s next project, a Kid Icarus reboot, something from Duke Nuke ‘Em, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Half-Life 2 Episode 3, Portal 2, a new console or anything completely unexpected? Only time will tell, but when something does happen at E3 2010, you can be sure G4 will be there to cover it.

Why do you want to import it? Portal 1 has "USK ab 12 freigegeben" in Germany and is uncut. Unless they add weapons to kill people, which I highly doubt, and unless you want to pay extra shipping, I would buy it in Germany or simply in the steam store.

- Portal was a 'trial'. Size and assets specifically kept minimal. Had no idea it would be this popular.
- Portal was a 'test bed', Portal 2 is a 'game'.
- GlaDOS returns as the antagonist.
- Chell returns, and we play as her.
- Portal 2 takes place a long time after the original. Hundreds of years, in fact. The complex has overgrown.
- Those orbs seen at the end of Portal are personality orbs. They've cornered off sections of the labs as their own, and are concerned about the decaying state of the complex.
- The opening sounds **** awesome. GlaDOS has some funny lines.
- Portal gun remains unchanged.
- Physics will now be part of portal puzzle solving. EG: A vent that sucks air in can be combined with a portal to 'suck' from a different location.
- "Paint" mechanic, various liquid substances that cause some reaction. For example, in the demo shown a orange substance on the floor caused Chell to be propelled upwards. Using portals you can apply these 'paints' to other areas of the level for puzzle solving.
- Reflection cubes will allow Chell to reflect lazers for various puzzles.
- The co-op campaign will have you playing as two bipedal robots. The like to hold hands. Each has a portal gun. Though not sure if both can shoot orange and blue
- Splitscreen for people playing on the console, and 'picture in picture' available for those playing remote co-op (eg: PC). This allows you to easily communicate with the other player and combine efforts for puzzle solving.

In a nutshell from the magazine.

I'm sure I will be pleasantly surprised in the end, but...

It sounds sort of empty being set so far in the future of everything else. Like this new adventure has so little to do with the past one.

And Chell returns as the protagonist. Also seems a bit off. Almost like our original escape was a failure. Chell should have been freed, after all we went through. Unless "killing" GLaDOS was a planned part of the testing, but it doesn't seem that way, or it wouldn't have taken 200 years to resume it.

And I was a resolution on who left all those markings on the walls in Portal 1. If it wasn't a previous Chell clone, what happened to him/her?

From what I have read, Chell was put into cryo at the end of the game then because of circumstances, she was awakened. Don't want to spoil you so much but it seems to play out pretty well.

Why we love valve and its games. It goes beyond just pointing and clicking, oh the mysteries. :P

Here a quote

Albert Schweitzer's

"As we acquire more knowledge, things do not become more comprehensible, but more mysterious"

Hers one that perhaps some Americans might like as it’s been coined the all-seeing eye.

“In my view whatever is done without display, and without the public witnesses, is most praiseworthy. Not that the public eye should be entirely avoided, for good actions deserve to be placed in the light; but notwithstanding this, the greatest theatre for virtue is conscience”

Portal was NOT uncut. It had the same changes EP2 had. Namely there was no red blood. You can see it at quite a few places in the game, where something is written on the wall in blood or a big bloodstain is on the floor. The german version has oil (black blood) instead.

As far as I know PS3 doesn't even use direct x. That would mean they would have to completely rebuild the engine, causing many new bugs. IMO they will probably wait until they make a new engine (if they do lol) before going mainstream ps3, if ever.

Source will run on a surprisingly wide range of configurations. Frankly, laptops are the only things really screwed by Source, and not even all of those. Maybe in the meantime, try saving up some pennies (like, don't eat out, don't buy starbucks, etc for a couple weeks) and pick up some extra RAM, or outright invest in a new graphics card, piece by piece you can make an almost new rig and enjoy way more than just the Source games on it.

In some countries, like in USA, its possible to buy at the same time powerful and low-cost hardware. Too bad, in Poland many of us have to cut-off on daily expenses to buy something efficient.

this just came around on facepunch:

Dear Subject Name Here,
Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word "surprise", of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.

real or not, I think we may be getting more than we bargained for.

I'm willing to bet that it's a orange box type of bundle that will be announced.

It will include Portal 2, the latest update for Counterstrike: Source, Portal 1, and some new tech demo (kind of like the original Portal was the tech demo for the orange box).

That's my bet, and i'm betting it all.

Oh yeah, and of course a major Source update that will only be used with games starting with Portal 2 and the new tech demo. Tessellations anyone?

Btw... the PS3 version says it has Steam and steamcloud and all that...

Will this also mean that if you buy it on PS3, you can put the game on your PS3 lock it to your Steam account (or however it will work?) and then be able to go on your PC and also play Portal 2? (and viceversa?)

or is the Portal 2 PS3 version not going to have any form of CD-key? and thus you just login to the same steam account you have on PC, but it will only log your achievements on the PS3 version and upload them to your Steam community notifications or what?

It will probably cost anywhere from $40 to $60. And yeah, it should be available for retail.

I can't find the MINIMUM or even EXPECTED system requirements of Portal 2 *anywhere*. (I've been searching for 20 minute now which is a LONG time on the web!)

Portal 2 looks awesome but I don't want to spend bucks on a game that won't run at a reasonable frame rate. By now they should have a BALL park number! Sheesh.

Valve is good about trying to maintain their "system budgets" for each part of a game texture, particles, animations all so we don't have to run out and upgrade our systems for an expensive new game.

So please VALVE I've searched everywhere Google, your own site, the game sales site web page.... NOTHING!

Like your Left 4 Dead upgrade to L4D2 took the game out of my crusty old rig's range...for lots more "gee whiz" animations and physics and I'm betting Portal 2 will be very in this regard.

You want to really GOOD looking game??? Then you need the latest hardware?

I can't image any last minute tinkering can possibly bring down dual core requirements or RAM requirements so take a guess please call it "maximum expected requirements"

If Portal 2 sys. reqs. are posted as of 11/25/10 (5 months pre-release) please direct me to that information thanks.

nothing has been released, but for general guidelines I'd download Alien Swarm, the most recently released version of the source engine.

p0rtalplayer seems to have the idea. If you can run Alien Swarm at a reasonable framerate, you should be able to run Portal, albeit with a few frames lost.

This has probably been asked like a billion times now, but I'll ask anyway:

Will Portal 2 be a full game (e.g. cost something around 50 bucks) or just a one hour mini game like the first part?

Full game, full price

Stand-Alone game, Stand-Alone price. It won't be in a package deal.

Great! At least now I won't be fooled like I've been last time (20 bucks for 1 hour play time is a little... unfair. HL2 costs less than the half of this price and takes over 5 hours).

I think Portal's estimated hours should be doubled, most people complete it more than twice. I've completed it lots of times on every platform but MAC:eek:

Me too, but then again I am not average and have probably 1500 or so hours played on portal (mostly on xbox) heck I only know of one person that has played this game more than me. :/

Selbi

No no no, you understand me wrong. With "single playthrough" I was talking about the time you take from the point where you first play the game until you defeat the end boss the first time, which only took an hour for me.

You don't need to take my opinion, but this is how I rate the play time of a game, which again also leads me to the quality of a game. Portal is a great game, but for only one hour playtime (for me), 20 bucks are too much.

And Krogglidor: Did you play through this game 1500 times? If this game would have a multiplayer I'd understand it, but it's a singleplayer-only game!

actually probably more around 2500-3000 times a playthrough (with mistakes) takes me ~25 minutes but sometimes I take longer to get it down faster (segmented speedrun wise).

I've got about 700 hours of portal, but a lot of that is building and testing custom maps.

Okay...

3000 times, ~25 minutes each. Let's see here.

Okay, 3000 x 25, uh-huh... 1,2,3,4... okay... 75,000... then divide by zer-- uh... 60, to convert from minutes to hours... uhh... Wait a sec...!

...That's 1,250 hours.
