I clicked create desktop shortcut in steam and it made a shortcut on my desktop, but there was just a blank page icon, not the nuclear symbol. Is there a way I can tell it to use a jpeg of the icon for the symbol or create a icon somehow?

I have photoshop if that helps.

Delete the shortcut and do it again? Refresh desktop? Reboot?

It's been that way since they added the "."s making it Ess Tee Ay El Kay Ee Ar!

This is using windows 7,
right click decktop icon
properties
shortcut
change icon,

My system said "windows cant locate" or something but it lets you browse manualy, so navigate to the icon in your steam folders and click ok.

Specifically the icons are in the C:\Program Files\Steam\steam\games folder. Change path as necessary. If it's not there [and it sounds like it's not] then you can take the shortcut icon directly from the game's .exe in its main folder located C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\stalker shadow of chernobyl . Once again, change path as necessary.

EDIT: I just actually started an install of SoC and it didn't give me the .ico in the folder either. Seems something may be broken. Can someone with it uninstalled give it a quick go and see if it happens to them?

in my case when I first installed I never even got a desktop icon. And this never bothered me till I was trying the
"-noprefetch" idea to speed the game load times. So I found the icon in my steam folders and "send to desktop" and it goes no prob but with blank icon. Using my change icon works ok now.

You can add these lines to the game shortcut in Steam. You don't need to have a separate desktop icon. Usually Steam apps/games do not install desktop icons by default. They simply are listed in your games list under Steam and that's it. Course shouldn't be an issue creating/using a seperate desktop shortcut for a Steam game, but why bother.

Did you try the suggestion. I know it works for SoC as I have to do it myself every time I reinstall the OS or the game.

So none has got the file in the Steam/steam/games folder?

the one I seem to have is C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\stalker shadow of chernobyl and there is a .ico of the nuke symbol on there.

I'm on Win Xp, but I think it should be the same.

It's there in all the OSs, but it fails to connect when you make a shortcut and you have to do it manually.

That's odd that it wouldn't display properly in XP or other 32-bit OS though.
It happens under 64-bit usually, because of the game installing to Program Files (x86) instead of Program Files
