I'm slowing learning how to run a steam engine. But, I can't find info on what a dampner is. Anyone know?

I don't have the game, I'm just looking to see if the bundle is worth it, but I can tell you what a damper actually is. A damper is a valve which controls the fire by regulating the amount of air that can reach the fire.

Hi, I can tell you that this bundle is really worth it for the sale price. I personally enjoy this game (sim) very much.

So why would you ever run a blower and a dampner at the same time?

You'd figure it would be mutually exclusive.

It is a fun game/simulator. The community is nice here too. I'm beta testing a route that someone wrote. I won't say his name unless I get his permission.

Et tu, Brute?

I don't think that means, what you think it means.

My Latin's fine. It means "You too, matey?"

At the risk of running the discussion of the rails (pun intended), I figured you were being sardonic.

Et tu, Brute. Being what Caesar said when he was murdered and all, to his what he though was a political ally, Brutus (or Bluto in the later Popeye shorts).

No, sir. I wasn't being sardonic (or any other type of fish for that matter, tinned or otherwise).
I was just wondering what you had discovered (I'm assuming we're testing the same route).
I still have another scenario to test and was taking a break here to see if I could steer this thread off the rails ;). (There, I was being sarcasmic)

LOL, you two need to meet and have lunch. ;)

Personally, I love sardines packed in oil and mustard. On crackers, of course. ROFL. :D

Just one bit on this. The dampner controls are counter intuitive. When it says dampner on, it's open so bigger fire. When off closed, smaller fire.. Seems wrong way round to me.

Just as an quick answer.
The Blower creates helps create a negative pressure in the funnel.
This "sucks" the fire and heat through the super heaters.
at the same time the damper is "on" or "open to provide more air from undernieth the fire grate.
You'd use the blower when stationary or moving slowly, the damper is open at the same time or when you want a "super hot" fire.
You'd not want to open the firebox door when stationary without the blower on. The fire can come out of the firebox and set fire to the firemans face, even worse if the engine is just moving off and the dampers are open and he throws the doors open "ouch".
When running at full chat, you'd need the dampers open, and blower off. when stationary waiting, the damper closed (execpt when your trying to build steam or boiler pressure, in which case it's blower on, and damper open) and the blower off. when setting off slowly, damper open and blower on (along with cylinder ♥♥♥♥♥ open) and when moving >10MPH shut the cyl ♥♥♥♥♥, and turn the blower off! :)

Hope that helps! :)

That fixes it for me!

I'm going to spend some time reprogramming my RailDriver to add the damper and blower controls to the cylinder-♥♥♥♥ control I've already done (I know that shouldn't be hyphenated but hoping not to see any more little pink hearts - this isn't 'My Little Pony') :D

After I've done that, I'll be handing the AI Fireman his P45.

Didn't work did it?

Hi
I also have a Raildriver, when I got into RW I had to get Dan at PE to progrma the RD with all the non working buttons, are you able to program some of the blanks? how about MSTS?

Ron,
I don't use MSTS much any more and it's been a few monthe since I had a go at programming it for that. Programming for RW is pretty easy though.
If you have a specific problem let me know and I'd be glad to help.
Andy
