View Full Version : *Vid* Ask AVP's Rebellion 10 Questions! Interview

Alright guys!
Here's your Chance.
Its been about a month so I thought it would be cool to do this now.
Time to get answers to all of our burning questions!
I've scheduled an Interview with the Developers over at Rebellion and I wanted to give my PC Brothers a chance to come up with some questions of their own!
I hear theres been alot of rage :o over Dedicated Servers, if someone would fill me in on this (i play the xbox 360 version) and possibly phrase a question for it, that would be great!
Final Judgment - Developer Interview with Your Q's! (http://angryjoeshow.com/?p=6634)
http://angryjoeshow.com/?p=6634
Ask Rebellion anything regarding their Aliens Vs Predator Franchise, and remember im looking for the best, most interesting and even sometimes funny questions! I’ll select maybe about 10, throw in a few of my own and set it over to Rebellion HQ for Answering!
This is obviously more of an "afterwards" what you thought, what you hated, what's next, what when into the process kinda thing so form them appropriately.

This is great, wow. I need to think carefully of questions. Thankyou Joe :D
Ok I would ask:
1.Will you ever release the SDK and tools necessary for modding? If not why not? There are some people that really love this game.
2.When are the servers going to get fixed and come out of beta aka ping reduction to normal levels (30-70 for servers in your area), ability to change species in match, team balancing, species balancing. Or what is the final server product going to include?
Here is my attempt at phrasing a question about the dedi's (which I will probably edit as and when my poor intelligence does something groovey):
3.How do you (Rebellion) feel that dedicated servers were not ready in time for release? Alot of the community are upset that they werent ready and as PC gamers feel mistreated and cheated. By releasing the dedicated servers in the way you did you have made it very difficult for the AvP community to actually take hold, if it ever does. You have offended alot of gamers and made it impossible almost for the game to succeed. Why werent they ready for release?

Create a Steam group. set a date and time. Get the devs ONLINE. open a chat at designated date/time. set rules. let users ask questions one at a time in a reasonable manner.
when you do that, I'm on-board.
until you do that, I see this as nothing but a shameless plug for your site.

I find it funny how there's constant ♥♥♥♥♥ing on these forums about how the devs don't listen to the community, and then when someone is going to be able to ask them some real questions directly, you complain about how it's a shameless plug for their site. Who cares? If we get some answers, really, who ♥♥♥♥ing cares?
The questions I would ask are:
1) What are you working on for the future of AvP? (patch information foremost, then DLC and maybe a sequel)
2) Is there any possibility at all of mod tools being released at this point?
3) Will dedicated servers ever be ranked?
4) Will you be adding more content than maps to the game?

Dude the reason why he got this chance to ask devs few questions IS because his sight got popular enough that devs see it as worth dealing with. It is obvious that you have no idea how it all works, but it was NOT up to him on what kind of interview he got. Developers agree for an interview, and they set their rules. The last thing they need is live chat with fans so they will be asked bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ QQ question, because you know that's exactly what would happen.

I think it would be really important not to puss out and ask the one really tough question everyone wants the answer to: "What do you have to say to the charges that you released a broken, unfinished game that many buyers are suffering with?" They'll deflect I'm sure, but it should at least be put to them directly. I would follow with a question about the logic of charging for a DLC from a now almost non-existent PC multiplayer community.

Doesn't work, i've seen dev-chats held trough steam chat before. And it's usually just a big big mess because steam chat lacks decent moderating tools.

My questions:
1) How much exactly influence does SEGA have when it comes to anything? Does SEGA decides when there will be next patch, and what will be fixed, and do any balancing issues need to be approved by SEGA before they can be fixed?
2) Are there gonna be Stand Alone Dedicated servers, which can be installed and ran on a computer without having to own full copy of the game and without having to run Steam? Such feature would allow companies to rent servers on superior computers with extremely fast connection and thus unleashing the full potential of the multiplayer for the PC community.
3) It is Obvious that current XP system with skin unlocks are completely LAME. Considering the disadvantage of lag in the matchmaking system, playing ranked games is just not fun, especially for the sake of few new skins. Why not let players have all the skins from the beginning, or at least make ranked dedicated servers? or perhaps developers already have other plans on how to improve that part of the game?

2)What is the point of releasing DLC maps that are worthless as there is no one to play those maps with due to the problems caused by question 1
3)Why have there been no dev comments about any notable issues since the launch of the game

1. Is the dev team that worked on AVP still working on adding muiltiplayer features for AVP including more match settings and options?
2. Are any of the devs free to work on mod tools and what would it take for you to work on adding mod tools to AVP if your not already working on them?
3. Do you see yourselves working on a expansion for AVP or going stright to a sequal?
4. How long are you commited to supporting the current AVP 2010 release with patches DLC and added server/online options?
5. How likely will it be that you will work on a lifecycle mode and classes in a AVP sequal or expansion? (this is VERY important)
6. The rank system is currently just a grind to get skins. Have you any plans to get rid of the ranked system or make all matches ranked without restrictions?
7. Muiltiplayer game modes are currently held back by many restrictions and a lack of options. Do you plan of giving the AVP online community more freedom on how they run their muiltiplayer games including more options? (such as 2 or 3 predators in predator hunt mode or 3 way domination maps)
8. A lot of the communiity agrees that AVP 2010 seems rushed to the release date before it was baked. This is due to lack of dedicated servers and shallow muiltiplayer options. What do you have to say about this?
9. Do you think it was a oversight to not include popular game features such as crouch, iron sights and capture the flag mode? (with a AVP spin) and how likely are you to include these features in a expansion or sequal?
10. Did any of you devs play AVP2 and if you did do you plan on stealing the better features from that game? ;)

I want to know:
- will they consider adding a crouch function to the PC version.
- who was the person who was playing Team Fortress 2 in the background of Jason's Gadget Show interview? Good to know those guys appreciate good PC shooters :)
Dedicated server rage summed up - on release there were no dedicated servers, we had to play games that were hosted by a single person, giving the host a huge zero-ping advantage (despite press releases stating that the game would definately have dedicated server support). After a week or so the dedicated servers arrived. They are in "beta". There are a lot of options missing which are standard for dedicated servers in other games (automatic map rotation, that kind of thing). They are better than player hosted, since everyone is on an even playing field and the pings tend to be better. The other big annoyance is that we can only gain ranked by playing player hosted matches (and the only way to unlock skins is by gaining rank). Nobody is playing ranked matches anymore.
Phrased as a question - Do Rebellion plan any extra features for Dedicated Servers once they come out of beta, and is there any chance we will be able to gain rank in dedicated servers?
___________________
Everyone moaning about the DLC - just want to point out that this will have been something that SEGA chose to do, I doubt Rebellion had any say in the matter.

Q: Even though sales are good, you lost a lot of good will by releasing buggy, incomplete multiplayer. What makes you think you can pull the same bait and switch with a sequel? What will Rebellion do to fix it's reputation with the PC community, which hasn't been all that great over the last 10 years?

I posted only three questions on the youtube video:
1.) Why base the game's multiplayer and single player combat in a rock paper scissors melee combat system?
2.) Many people feel elements of each species had been weakened or strengthened, leading to the conclusion that certain species dominate the others. Could the multiplayer have used more balancing before ship?
3.) No dedicated servers at launch, hectic lobby system, useless ranking system, unpopular game modes. Was there any thought put into improving this game's playability and longevity?

MOAR FLAME FOR THE QQ MOBILE!
When will people start to ignore the whiny crybabies?
AngryJoe, you wanted some questions, here are mine:
1. What is the approximate ETA on Dedicated Servers 1.0? What are the features you are working on to implement, and I don't mean bugfixing.
2. What is the approximate ETA on releasing the SE-only maps to everyone and will they be free?
3. Since the game is said to be a financial success, does that mean you aren't going to support or polish the game too much so that you can release a "bigger, better, more bada$$" sequel? I don't think people who bought the game will be happy when it'll turn out that they've just been used as guinea pigs and/or beta testers.
4. Are you considering the possibility of reworking the ranking system? Like, letting us create dedicated ranked servers (ranked matchmaking is dead now, and I want mah skins...) or changing the system entirely?
5. Why didn't you murder AngryJoe for giving it only a 7/10?

Thank Steam. my game account was inactive since...'05 or '06 until the day I met AvP3 (release). never bothered to have a forum account because in the past, never really had a problem with steam or the products it chose to endorse. 9. Do you think it was a oversight to not include popular game features such as crouch, iron sights and capture the flag mode? (with a AVP spin) and how likely are you to include these features in a expansion or sequal?
agree with these questions.
We need need more options with the game modes we have currently and we could use some more game modes such as a capture the flag/item and destroy a base or area of importance.
This game needs a bunch of patches if it wants to compete with games today including the newly released bad company 2. Its going to die really fast without some urgent updates.
Also some more questions:
1) Is there gonna be a lan option available that doesn't require internet (very important)
2) Are certain game modes going to be balanced out better such as predator hunt. Things like
-removing the time limit, fixing the radar so it can't distinguish between enemy or foe or removing radar completely.
-giving the predator extra health and weapons, etc so he can actually stand a chance against a bunch of marines. Right now predator hunt is literally find the predator as fast as u can because he sucks on his own.
-another thing that would help the predator (all modes including this one) would be a better cloak since marines can spot it way too easy. It should only show the sparks when hes sprinting at least, not when hes normal running.
3) Are certain weapons going to be buffed? Such as
-the marine flamethrower
-smart gun, needs more ammo, etc
-marines need more weapons in general, possibly grenades
-predator throwing spear (possibly getting a speed increase and not lose cloak when thrown).
-The plasma caster to use slightly less energy since it uses too much and also shares ammo with the mines. It doesnt have enough ammo to compete with a bunch of marines. The uncharge shot is also very weak.
4) Ranking is a problem because it is divided between match making and regular play. Ranking should build up no matter what (like in other good games)
5) Are you going to remove the feature that requires people to hold down e to pick up a gun/pred weapon. Weapon pickup should be instant. It slows down the game too much and leaves you open to attack. This delay is more noticeable when people have higher pings. There is also a delay when predators want to use a recharge station.
6)In general people feel that the alien stealth kill distance reaches too far and pulls marines towards them. This happens even when a marine turns around to face the alien, he is flipped back around and killed.
7) Is alien wall clinging going to be made better? Right now its not that great and the camera is very confusing, constantly changing and making it hard to focus on a target.
This quote was pulled from a thread that could possibly help with some alien changes.
"Fact #1: It forces autotransitions down ledges and on several surfaces even with the Auto-Transition option turned off in the options menu, sometimes resulting in players being stuck and unable to auto-transition back off.
Fact #2: The camera forces auto-center on uneven surfaces, such as at the top of the temple, which causes a jerky camera.
Suggestion #1: Add a toggle function for Auto-Transition and add a "limited auto-transition" option to the options menu, allowing players to choose to have NO auto-transition, the default partial auto-transition, or full auto-transition if they wish.
Suggestion #2: Make auto-center optional and add an auto-center key.
In AvP 1 and 2 auto-center was optional and auto-transition could be toggled. There was also an Auto-Center key."
First page from this thread
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1163867
Heres an explanation of how the camera is very disorienting
Think of it this way...when you go running down a rocky road in real life do your eyes look straight up, then level, then straight down, then level every time you step on a rock an off again? No it doesn't. The same should hold true for alien vision when running over a bumpy surface...but it doesn't. Every little bump re-orients your vision parallel to the surface of the bump...so when going over a support girder instead of just stepping over it and continuing to see forward (which it should be) you change vision angles relative to the overall surface 4 times (level, up, level, down, level)

Create a Steam group. set a date and time. Get the devs ONLINE. open a chat at designated date/time. set rules. let users ask questions one at a time in a reasonable manner.
when you do that, I'm on-board.
until you do that, I see this as nothing but a shameless plug for your site.
That's actually a pretty good idea, though im not sure how I could make a video out of that... Possibly afterwards take the best questions from the chat and put them into the video a sort of best of compilation?
Im sure it would be alot harder to get Dev's in a chat, some people dont know how to be civil and mostly just act like big jack-@$$'s like half of these people who see this as a "shameless promo" LoL!!

Dont worry I dont plan on "Pussing out" if ANGRY JOE cant be the one who's tough and honest (while still giving credit where credit is due) than whats the point of the Angry Joe Show?
But im not going to be asking questions like, "Your game sucks and I hate it, how do you feel about that?".
Your question that the game is broken and unfinished isnt true. Now I havent played the PC version but for the xbox version it is certainly playable.
I could ask them, where the hell the new alien types that tim jones promised where? The spitting alien doesnt count.

Why not let players have all the skins from the beginning, or at least make ranked dedicated servers? or perhaps developers already have other plans on how to improve that part of the game?
.
OOooOO these are juicy! Great questions here man! ;)

I hear theres been alot of rage :o over Dedicated Servers, if someone would fill me in on this (i play the xbox 360 version) and possibly phrase a question for it, that would be great!
exploiting people's grief may be entertainment and information to you but to me it's a cheap tabloid trick not worth the 25 cent paper it's printed on, or for that matter, the .txt file or .swf it is saved to.
Buy the PC game, play it for yourself. then come to the community. or, move along.

Thanks Spacebug! Cleared it up for me. Now Im up to speed.
So what other Dedicated Server features are you PC guys looking for?

Good ones, Though I think for your #2, it was to be released 30 days after release so that would be March 18th or so. If its not out by then and im still waiting on Sega (now they want to pass my questions through sega first before it gets to Tim or David), ill sneak that one in.

For the sake of getting alot more questions answered, it would be awesome if you could summarize or condense these huge walls of text. These are far to super specific. I like specific but not every single question.
For example I think alot of your 7 questions can be summed up with "Will see any re-balancing or small gameplay changes in an upcoming patch? If so can you detail a few?"
Notice how that question is like 2 or 3 in one with the possibility of getting a few details in the answer, as well as it being a general is there a patching coming? Question.

Your sick. Dude, Im just one guy. I run a website all by myself, that means posting, dealing with admin issues, and managing spam. Then I make videos about gaming, which takes a massive amount of time because I add FX, parodies, and gameplay footage.

Then ive got to let people know im out there and I made this stuff for them, On forums like AVPGalaxy (which ive been a member of for YEARS), Segas Official Forum, etc. I dont buy FPS on PC here on STEAM, I use my Console for the couch experience. This Steam forum you crawl likely everyday isnt the center of the universe, just yours.

The only thing you have Passion for is tearing others down. GTFO! We're done with you. My Nature wouldnt allow me to ignore someone like you, but I'll get better about this as my show continues -despite you- and hopefully ill learn to ignore the next cynical a-hole trying to ruin a good time.

Thanks Spacebug! Cleared it up for me. Now Im up to speed.
So what other Dedicated Server features are you PC guys looking for?
I am not gonna say that Spacebug is wrong, but I would like to go little bit further with explanation of what exactly dedicated servers are, how they work, and what kind of dedicated servers we NEED.
Especially in situation like this where there are a lot of people who run around screaming "OMG We want out dedicated servers!!" just because that's what everyone is screaming about, but at the end they don't know SH*T about what those dedicated servers are and how they work.
Very basic description would be: servers that can run independently from the game, and provide variety of options when creating and managing the game.
The benefits: Servers can run when host is not playing the game, and are far more stable sense they are not fully linked to the game. More ways to control the game, with map rotations, game types etc.
The downsides: In OUR case with current BETA version You have to own full game to run the server. (And correct me if I am wrong but, you probably also have to have steam running to run a dedicated server? If not then great.)
So, right now the dedicated servers we have are basically are same as Matchmaking system, with little bit more options. However in most cases they do not provide better connection, as they are still can be hosted by random players with poor connection or weak computers (or both), just like Matchmaking.
What we really NEED is Standalone Dedicated Server, a dedicated server that does not require neither full version of the game nor steam.
The major benefit of such tool is that it can be hosted by companies who make money on hosting and renting out such servers to the community. So instead of hosting a server on someones crappy computer with medium connection, people would rent a server which is hosted on a super computer with extreme good connections like T3/DS3 (just to compare, DSL and Cable connection can very from $20 to $60 a month, where T3/DS3 go from $3000 to $15000 a month, and those are WAY faster than what most people have at homes)
And sense players connect to such server, they are not only gonna have good in game ping with practically no lag, there also not gonna be any favoritism to the host of the server who would normally have 0 ping in matchmaking. There are no host, it is dedicated server that runs 24/7 as long as rent is payed.
In our case it is Very important to Ask for the right tools. Because Rebellion can give us half a*ssed dedicated servers which are similar to beta we got right now. I doubt hosting companies will go as far as buying AvP game and installing it on their computers so they can host servers for the game, they might but that's just would be pain in the a*s for them. So hopefully Rebellion know what they are doing and will give the game what it needs with minimum hassle.
As for the options, as long as there are basic EASILY accessible features like:
Administrator MENU with options such as:
Kick, Ban, Kill - Ban options should be permanent or for certain time set by administrator
Mute Chat/Voice - Similar to ban - permanent or temporary mute, till player disconnects and than reconnects to the server
alone with that should go Unmute Chat/Voice
Change Map - instant map change by administrator.
Swap teams/races - forces a player to change team/race by administrator at any given time
Admin chat - text of different color from the normal chat, maybe in different position on a screen, used only when administrator chooses to talk in such chat. (So if I am administrator playing on my own server and I chat, it will not be admin chat unless I chose to talk that way in the admin menu (Sorry that I have to clarify it like that, but there are a lot of dumb developers out there now days...))
Server Message - message that can be set by server administrator that appears at the beginning of the match or whenever is called by administrator. Usually used to state server rules, or advertise clans website or other servers
and finally
Vote Map, Kick, Mute options - available to all players on the servers, can be called by hitting vote key and then executed on number of votes for or against the call.
For example:
Vote kick SEGA in the balls
Votes 10 to 2
Vote pass
SEGA been kicked in the balls
Just in case if no admins are around, players can take care of abusers or pick map that suits better for the number of players or races. Also admins should be able to disable the VOTE feature on the servers if they chose to do so.
Note how I asked it to be in the nice EASILY ACCESSIBLE MENU style, because typing all that crap in the command line is Lame, so if they want to make it right for once might as well make it easy for the admins.
(Also they should definitely check out awesome fan made Counter Strike Source Admin tools!)
If anyone else has things to add or make any corrections please feel free. Thanks!

That and PC users aren't very accustomed to being charged for DLC yet.

It may not be true of the 360 version, but it certainly is of the PC version. Here's the facts as they've presented themselves over the past month:
1)Yes, dedicated servers WERE promised on release and were never delivered apart from a beta plagued with issues.
2)The Matchmaking system on the PC was far inferior to its 360 counterpart on release and remains so, leaving most PC users unable to connect. The multiplayer community died a quick death as a result. The Steam Stats page confirms this.
3)PC specific issues like stuttering in DirectX 11 mode, driver issues and frequent crashes to desktop were never properly addressed or outright dismissed.
4)What few hangerson are left, myself included, feel insulted that a DLC featuring 4 maps comes with a $10 price tag when the core game remains virtually unplayable.
I have heard 360 players are having a much easier go of it so I understand if all the hating on the game in these forums seems uncalled for.

Ahh ok joe ill try my best here. I just had detail there to give the reasoning lol.
1)Is the dev team that worked on AVP still working on adding multiplayer features for AVP including more match settings and options?
2)Are free mod tools going to be released so players can create their own game modes and maps
3)Is there gonna be a lan option available that doesn't require internet (very important)
4)Are modes like predator hunt going to be balanced out and made more fair for the predator.
5)Many weapons are underpowered at the moment, such as the flamethrower, sniper rifle, smart gun, predator throwing spear, plasma caster using too much ammo, etc. Are they going to receive balance tweaks? It would be great if every gun was useful.
6)Is ranking going to be combined into any type of server so the community doesn't get split up even further.
7)Are you going to remove the feature that requires people to hold down e to pick up a gun/pred weapon. Players would appreciate it if weapon pickup and pred recharge station had no delay. It also more noticeable at higher pings.
8)Are stealth kills going to be tweaked so they dont reach as far as they do at the moment. Currently you can be very far from an opponent and it still sucks them in.
9)Is predator cloak going to be made better? Right now you can't even sneak up on players because the cloak hardly covers the pred when he moves. He should be more noticeable when hes holding down the sprint button if anything.
10)Are the alien wall clinging controls going to be improved? And is the alien camera going to be fixed? The camera is very confusing, constantly changing and making it hard to focus on a target.
For Further explanation, read below:

If that ends up being the case - I will point that out, and that will be one more reason for you to distrust Rebellion & Sega - but I dont believe that will be the case.

Im on an old laptop still trying to do this work - I'll likely have all these Questions i need (and my pc back up) by the end of the week. When Ill submit the questions. (Due to GDC they are unavailable for a sit down). Also GDC might slow their response time - but since its email it shouldnt be too bad.
I've made it clear to them that the series is designed to be posted around a month (plus or minus a week) after release.
Theres no doubt that the Dedicated Servers and Resentment over the DLC content/price when there are still major issues with the matchmaking on PC needs to be asked.

Q. What are Rebellion's thoughts on the outcry from their PC player base on the current state of the game?
And... Do they still think those "♥♥♥♥" reviews are ill concieved after so many of us gamers(Across all platforms) also report that their game is bugged, outdated, has crappy AI and is just simply flawed in all aspects?

Q. According to statements made by Rebellion, if there was an outcry for Dedicated Servers they would be released. This happened. Now there is an outcry for an SDK. Will this happen?
Q. Will additional skins be made available via DLC/Patches later on? Many people want female marine skins and a Predalien (scaling it down would be fine, trust me it wouldn't bother anyone). Also the original Predator from Predator would be nice.

1) Rebellion are you going to listen to the PC community and make sure they also get what they wanted out of this game.
2) Was AvP even made for the PC or just with the consoles in mind?
3) Are the Marine's getting some sort of block action to stop quickkills? If so maybe even take those out?
4)Is there a map editor coming? Ala Unreal Tournament that would be one of the best things you could give the PC community after this very bad start with to many bugs!
5) ALso why aren't the maps of the DLC free? How do you plan on making this appealing towards customers? Since almost nobody will pay for it what will you do about this?

Hey Joe I hope you gonna see this, because I have couple more quick questions which I think are pretty important. I know you said you almost done with gathering the questions, but I would greatly appreciate if you can squeeze in these two somehow, somewhere. K here we go:
First I would love to know if developers gonna give us more options for control customization. Which would go for both consoles and PC gamers. Why not let aliens have a simple auto transition button, similar to AvP2? Also I would like to disable alien Normal jump, sense you leap or climb everywhere, normal jump is practically worthless and makes a ridiculous jumping target out of you more than helps you. And why not let Predators chose to assign vision mods to specific key, or keys combination? Like V + #1 = normal V + #2 = thermal etc.
And second, why, WHY don't they add Offline LAN support for the PC? That probably doesn't sound like much for console players, but for PC gamers it is huge chunk of the multiplayer experience. Because if I got my gaming rig in my room, and I have a game, and my roommate got gaming rig in his room, and he got the game, we CANNOT play a simple game just with two of us without going through bunch of loop holes and without actually connecting to the internet, when our computers are a room apart. WHYYYY? We both have computers, we both have games, we both got steam... why not let the game connect to the Local network and let people have fun?
And I hope they don't give bunch of BS regarding Piracy, because people pirate games for single player more than anything else, AND it's STEAM job to deal with piracy. Why would they cut multiplayer features for that?
Yeah, so PLEASE mention those and see what they got to say about it, because right now its complete bullsh*t.
I appreciate your efforts bro! Thanks!

I can ask about the layoffs but seeing as they havent responded to other sites inquiries about it they may just brush it off. Layoffs are sometimes apart of the normal game development cycle, but 20+ is kinda high. I'll ask it.
The sure questions without a doubt are future support for the game (will layoffs have effect), the dedicated server issues with trying to plug paid DLC, and Offline lan support.
Cant grab all the questions from just here, but I'd like to maybe grab one or two more, im also looking for funny questions to lighten the mood.
I'll submit everything by Friday.

Who stole all the Marine Helmets?

When do we get a Capture the Flag mode? (could make it Capture the Technology Mode Predators VS Marines)

Are there any Marshmellows in the game and is that why we have the flamethrower?
Why is Predator Hunt mode not called Predator Tag?
360 degree motion trackers with no meter read out? Didn't your boss give Rebellion staff a day off the see Aliens?

How about fixing the controls so that Auto-Transition Off actually works?
Fact #1: It forces autotransitions down ledges and on several surfaces even with the Auto-Transition option turned off in the options menu, sometimes resulting in players being stuck and unable to auto-transition back off.
Note: The skill of the player is irrelevant to the issue.

Did they ask for the questions? Because normally you are not supposed to give your questions away in an interview.. specially one that will contain some hot topics.
If they were like: "Hey Joe, send your Qs dog so we can answer them (read systematically eliminate those that may cause trouble or bad publicity, we'll answer the same crap we have been saying since we announced the game though :D )". Then not much you can do.

Do you work in the Industry?
Because a few weeks back unexpectedly my interview was halted and directed towards sega when I was making good progress to a private interview - now the q's are being submitted to sega first then to Tom - they are also now wanting all the questions in written form, rather than a back and forth setup. (it may just be formality but the fact remains)
We will see how butchered they are by the time they come back. I did my best to setup a relaxed atmosphere - that will likely be odd & unprofessional sounding if they are to just read through them.
They've already commented that Tom will be unable to share his opinion on Aliens: Colonial Marines (it was a throw away mention embedded within another question)
The question that wont get answered:
"Some people ask why there wasn’t a co-operative campaign mode? Was it because you didn’t want to step on the toes of Gearbox’s upcoming Aliens Colonial Marines? And are you as excited as we are about that title?"
Anyway, Im not going to pass judgment until we see a final result. but know Im not going to go down easy if i get back my document with red marker all over it.

Rebellion today confirmed that analysis of player feedback following the launch of the chart-topping Aliens vs Predator will shortly lead to the release of a patch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Following updates to the PC, including integration of a Dedicated Server client, the company stated: “We are aware of and grateful to the community for communicating with us and helping this process along. The updates are going through rigorous QA and we hope to have them available publicly very soon.”

Good dlc adds to a game ( I agree though that these company's are simply developing this so called dlc and waiting to after release to gouge more money from the consumers), the only sub consoles pay are $50 a year for xboxlive (Not expensive),They don't have the $14.99 a month sub like pc games do which add up to more than $50 a year & patches also help the game because from yester-year games were made and left alone, even with problems at hand they were let in the dark. Also the argument that yesterday games and today games need patches doesn't sit well because games of the past used way less resources and technology to make and besides patches are free and good game improvement's.

I'd like to know
1: Why did they released the game obviously unfinished?
2: Why are they releasing maps as paid DLC to further divide the online community?
3: Why don't the Ranked games have dedicated servers yet?
4: Why do ranked matches end when host drops instead of finding a new host?
5: Why does the ranked match system only allow you to search 1 game type or all game types instead of a custom list of gametypes?
6: Why does the Alien auto-transition off option not actually turn auto-transition all the way off?
7: Why is there no auto-transition toggle key?
8: Why are teams of three are often divided by 8 instead of 9?
9: Why did they advertise the game so heavily on the "Multiplayer will never be the same" line when the Multiplayer match system is STILL so obviously broken?
10: Why is there no crouch button?
Rebellion has already showed that they don't care about their customers as long as they can stack up the pre-orders on nothing but hype, and so has SEGA.

Yup, you said "SEGA has to approve" so either they're going to choose the questions that aren't in reference to them making a ♥♥♥♥ty game or they will feed us bull♥♥♥♥ like Rebellion and them have been doing all along.
Just like a previous poster said.. they could care ♥♥♥♥ing less about making a great game as long as they could sell a game with hype only. At least I know that I will never purchase a SEGA or Rebellion product again. They have shown little to no support towards the community.
I'm curious to see how the interview turns out but everyone knows that Rebellion or SEGA wont admit that they made a god-awful ♥♥♥♥ing game with no future. Here's a meeting that went down between Rebellion and SEGA:
Rebellion: Should we include 8 or 4 maps with the original release?
SEGA Rep: *Almost choking on coffee* What!? Are you kidding me? We release 4 maps AND THEN release DLC for almost $10 more so we get more money!
Rebellion: The PC community is asking about dedicated servers... should we tell them that we don't have that planned?
SEGA: ♥♥♥♥ no, but wait... I need pre-order sales so lets tell them that they will be included with the release.
Rebellion: We know it's close to release but there's a lot of bugs to work out with the game.. we need to delay the game.
SEGA: ♥♥♥♥ it, release the beast and lie to community about patching the game as soon as possible. We'll have their money already so it won't matter.

I suggest you re-read your sources. That first article uses the second to somehow magically infer that dedicated servers will be available on release, when the second article (that is referenced by the first as "evidence") never mentions anything of the sort. Plus, in an article just a month before the second one, they said they "may" release dedicated servers, so obviously they were not planning on releasing them from the start.
I'm not defending them and saying what they've done is right, but let's at least get our facts straight before flaming them for things they never said.

I know for certain I remember them saying there would be Dedicated Servers like 3 months before launch. True they never said they would be ready at launch but they never said they wouldn't. An when they confirm them way before the game comes out you assume they will be there at launch. Obviously they just let us believe that so they could boost sales. So don't defend them. They could have told us a week or so before release the Dedis would not be ready but they didn't.

Well, like you said, why would you assume they would be done if they just announced them only 3 months before release? Makes no sense, games take time to code, including the dedicated servers. I certainly wouldn't expect them to be done in 3 months, and if they were they'd surely have a ton of bugs and people would just ♥♥♥♥♥ and complain anyway.
You're right about one thing, though, they should have kept us more informed rather than keeping quiet and vague about the situation. However, I don't think that people have the right to ♥♥♥♥♥ and say things like "THEY PROMISED DEDICATED SERVERS AT LAUNCH OMG" when they never said that.

Dude, you're just defending the indefensible. Regardless of Rebellion's exact wording, they deliberately misled people into thinking dedicated servers would be available at launch. If you look back in these very forums every time it was questioned days before release that person was considered a troll and threatened with banishment.
Even if you look at the dedicated server software it was obvious they scrambled to put it together after the huge backlash over the terrible automatic matchmaking. They never intended to make it 6 months ago or however long it was when they made the first promise.

Charley/Rebellion,
This is now my 5th requested email, all previous update requests have been ignored.
If you are canceling our interview or Sega doesn’t want to conduct an interview with angryjoeshow.com or thatguywiththeglasses.com (one of the top 10,000 sites in the world - 6,457th). That’s your prerogative – But to ignore my emails and to treat me indifferently is downright rude. I suspect had I been IGN, Gamespot, or Game trailers the story would be much different here.
I gave a month’s advance notice – was told that I could have an interview – submitted questions, and was told that tim had them, more than a week ago (2).
If Sega’s approval process takes multiple weeks to months, it would be nice to know that, but I don’t think that’s the case. I’ve conducted these before.
Can you please send me an update as now my promises to my viewers of an interview with a cool developer who made a game we all wanted to chat and learn more about appears to be not happening. If that’s the case and I’ve been snubbed by corporate over at Sega - I’m going to proceed with the “video interview” as promised to my viewers but instead highlight the events over the past 2 months in trying to get this interview by an excited fan and reviewer done to no avail.
Eagerly awaiting your Reply Before I take action,
(And hopeful we can salvage this situation)

That's pretty damn hilarious. Don't be so quick to drop all the blame in Sega's lap. Rebellion was always run by a bunch of stereotypical arrogant Brits who believe their fans are lowly peons not worthy of their presence. Some of that shined through with their initial reactions to the poor reviews, claiming it was "only a few stupid Americans". Their words exactly.

The questions have been passed onto SEGA, apparently. That means it's not Rebellion that's holding things up.
More likely, SEGA simply won't allow a lot of the questions through and think that ignoring the guy is the lesser of two evils, for them. I mean seriously, how many questions do you think are positive?

MY QUESTION IS
How do you intend to make up for the short coming of this game (poor servers quality, lack of ranked servers match up and map's) with the international fan based community, and is there the possiblity of some New thank you map's to level out the MP community?
rather then steam acheivment i would rather AP ammo,a good single player CO OP mission. so there is another question, would they consider releasing a L4D style of play for AvsP

As daPing mentioned himself, he was posting on his own spare time, simply because he felt like doing so. I would give credit to him personally and not SEGA/Rebellion, it is obvious that as the company and studio they don't care about making any official statements or updates more often than they have to, which is not very often at all.

It's not like you haven't tried repeatedly, via a direct method.
Just another nail in the coffin for this comatose game. Devs we can't trust to get even basic design decisions right. A publisher who feels it's better to force paid-for DLC down our necks before we even have a stable MP environment and now this.
Is there any wonder AVP has turned from the best selling game of 2010 to a ghost-town, in a matter of weeks?

To be honest with you, I think it's because a lot of people don't "hate" this game, but actually quite like it. However, things like lack of rank xp for dedicated servers, keep many people from playing. A lot of people haven't written the game off, but are simply waiting form some necessary changes.

Oh bull ♥♥♥♥. ♥♥♥♥ both companies. Developers need to stop hiding behind their publishers every time they lie/cheat/steal/♥♥♥♥up/whatever and we players need to start holding them accountable. Every single time anything goes wrong in the video game industry, the fans first blame the developers, who go "lol no" and blame the publishers, and of course the majority of us are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ man children who hate "evil corporations" so we do a 180 and blame the publishers as well. This is an opinion of course, but jumping through several hoops just to get a developer to answer a set of tamed questions with canned answers doesnt strike me as a 'angryjoe' , more like a 'justjane'.
Forget about asking devs to answer, just call out the game as it is without fear of losing ad revenue, or lose early access privilages (or whatever benefits the mainstream reviewers get (incl. hotels eh? MW2 ? IW/Activision)).
Play the game and call it as you see it, thats all your fans would want... imagine in the Nerd (AVGN) had to ask developers and publishers permission before blasting a game that... quote ' sucks ♥♥♥ ' end quote.

Fox owns the rights, so they're a non-negotiable censor. It's not one company trying to hide behind another, it's legitimate "we need to cover our asses legally on all fronts" issue. I'm not pleased with what happened to the game either, but whether we like it or not we have to deal with this, and getting pissy and mopey about it could end up hurting the Angry Joe Show - what dev would want an interview if the fan community is a negative stew of bad press?
For what it's worth, I was beyond psyched for this game, and the death of the multiplayer aspect has ruined a lot of the things I was looking forward to. I'd love to have someone to blame, but I can't rightly say where down the line issues started to crop up. Was it QA? Did whoever write the netcode blow at finding a good host? Why was the dedicated server issue so poorly handled? Or was it rushed out by Fox or Sega? Was Rebellion just hoping for a cash-in?
I plain old don't know. And until I have more information, I have no interest in trying to blame someone.
That having been said, whoever screwed up screwed up big.
Vladplaya
04-07-2010, 06:30 PM
Jip I am not really blaming anyone specifically other than the system that they got over there. Why can't the Developers answer few questions about their game? Yes they don't own the Aliens or Predators, but they made the darn game, so why does that list have to travel all the way to FOX? FOX has nothing to do with the game, other than providing copyrighted "ideas", why the heck they would look at those question and say, "Umm yeah you can answer this one and that one, but not that one".
I mean the most I would expect is Rebellion sending letter to SEGA and saying here are the questions, which one should we answer, and then SEGA sending a letter to FOX saying, we need to answer some questions about the game. FOX says Okay, SEGA picks the questions, Rebellion answers those. That entire deal shouldn't take more than hour, okay in corporate world it might take a week, but we have this thing that's stretching almost for a month now.
It's pathetic.
Jip_Bip_Jo

Like I said, legality issues. There may be a clause in their contract which essentially is meant to control what's said. Or, they don't want to alienate their business partners by raging on them in public. Like I said, we don't know. If it turns out they are just trying to buy time or be too difficult to work with, then yeah, they deserve every comment levelled at them. But it genuinely could be for a legal reason or some such, and I believe in the principle of innocent until proven otherwise.

... and as I asked, whats the point ?
After all that running to and fro you may as well just gone to Rebellion and said gimme ten questions and answers about your game so I can put in my show, free advertising for you.
The corperate powers that be will never allow you to grill a dev properly, the dev may actually tell the truth and reveal how FOX harrased SEGA who in turn pull the funding off Rebellion, who packed the nearly finished game into a installer and said done... suppose we can always put the rest of the game in as DLC (where SEGA comes back and says paid for DLC).

I'm guessing that's the interview. Thanks for the time Joe.
The interview felt a little light on tough questions though, and sometimes it felt like a tough question was asked but watered down with a qualifying phrase (like "or did you feel that such and such was better off not in the game...") that gave them possible answers to wiggle their way out of giving a straight answer...I understand you gotta treat em nice, but it was kinda the warm seat more than the hot seat.
Hands down, the best question was definitely the challenge for them to point out where the "1 or 2 new aliens" were. I want to see developers squirm a bit more like that (though I can't see why they'd willingly do your interviews then :P)... especially 'cause I'm freaking mad that I haven't been able to play since the dedis came out.. my game just crashes.

The questions weren't bad honestly. I know a lot of questions got unanswered due to SEGA/FOX/Rebellion or whatever not wanting to answer. Some of their answers p#%^!@ me off.
Rebellion: "Female characters have a different build in the game so they can't share the same animations in multiplayer."
CLIFF NOTES: We're lazy.
Rebellion: "We play close attention to player feedback" (In reference to map sizes)
Ya, ok... terrible job so far Rebellion. You've lost the majority of your fan base.
Rebellion: "We are very happy with the players response to the ones (game types) that we've settled on"
-What game are you playing? 95% of the posts on every AVP forum have been talking about how broken every game-type is.
Rebellion: "We continue to monitor player feedback and update the game with patches whenever possible"
-Seriously Rebellion.. GO F#@! YOURSELVES.
