Though I generally hate splitscreen, it's hard for me to keep my eyes focused on my part of the screen, I wouldn't object. PC should = choices.

Portal 2 will at least have picture-in-picture for Online multiplayer, that will be interesting :D

I agree. Split screen is nice, especially when playing on a large screen(or on two screens, valve?). That'll allow me to play co-op decently(with myself, since just one of my friends owns portal, and he's not good at it).

I wish there would be split screen for PC, but when you play online, you get the whole screen to yourself. Just like Left 4 Dead 2 on the Xbox 360, if you played with a local player, you shared a screen. With only play, you got the screen to yourself.

Unfortunately, the bulk of Portal's PC controls are in the mouse, and at the moment I don't think it would be possible to replace this with, say, a keyboard control. Split screen would therefore only be useful if you had items like the plug-in xBox 360 controllers; that way each person would have all the normal controls.

With several games, if you have "two player controls" they are really a cut down version to allow for only half the keys being in use per player. However, it would still be nice to have the option :)

You DO realize you can connect two mice to a PC, right? I remember playing a game (not its name, though) that supported a so-called "Mouse Party" mode, where players could connect up to four mice to one PC and each would play with his own mouse.

So this is possible.

I was going to write a really sarcastic reply to this, asking if everyone would have to bring their own mouse and keyboard as WHO would have more than one... then I realised I probably have at least 2/3 of each...

Thanks for reminding me of the most basic stuff ;) -- do you know if there are any other uses for more than one mouse out there? i.e. not gaming

Split screen for Portal 2 will be a god-send. My 4-year-old nephew LOVES Portal, and if I could hook up a game controller and have him play with me, he'd go nuts.

Also, I'd like to point out that more and more PCs are becoming media centers, so why not offer similar features in games as consoles?

If all my PC games had split screen, that would be quite a bit of fun. Hook it up to an HDTV and either multiple controllers on a usb hub or even multiple keyboard/mice, and play with friends/family.

there's a program you can get that let's you have multiple pointers in Windows.

I'd think it would be pretty useful in Ableton Live if you didn't have an interfacing option other than keyboard/mouse.

In the Portal 2 podcast on Game Informer they went into semi-detail about this. While it won't be local splitscreen as in two people on the same computer, you will be able to view your co-op partner's screen during gameplay. They said something along the lines of hitting tab to pull up your teammates view.

I'd prefer a choice. I call splitscreen for local play, your own screen for internet connection play.

Hotseat splitscreen on PC is actually pretty good so long as you have at least a normal sized screen and an extra place to sit.

I agree that this is normally good, but it is generally only used in turn based games (I remember my favourite was the old "Worms" series :D).

I don't think that this would work for Portal as it is very real-time based - and the whole point of co-op is it is two people working together: if you had hot-seat, you could play both parts by yourself

Lol, my idea is that you can use your steam account after you started playing co-op and you can connect on another computer, then, you can play portal 2 co-op only on that computer while the co-op on the original account is playing. I would personally like it a lot

What about the 360?
Would that have splitscreen or some kind of thing that has your character's view on your TV and the other guy's character's view on his TV?
The 2nd thing sounds the best.
That is, if you can do Co-Op via Xbox Live and not just 2 controllers.

I am guessing the 360 & PS3 version will support both split screen and online play. But if it does not support both, most likely it will be just Internet play. Highly likely both will be supported otherwise there will be a lot of unhappy console gamers, so no need to wait for 1000s of unhappy customers to tell Valve what they already know. :)

Portal 2 probably is gonna run on the source engine and since the multiplayer Half-Life 2 Deathmatch uses it too and doesn't have splitscreen, im guessing that Portal 2 won't use split screen but a full screen for each player. :o:rolleyes:

Many source games ship with old unused files from other games or even from other platforms, if you notice, you will probably find some xbox or ps3 related files too.

So i would not get my hopes up for official split screen support. Modding and tweaking the game might make it possible though, never know. :)

I'm sure it will split it down the middle, so if you hook up two... it'll go to either one. Probably.

Actually you could extend the desktop in you graphics settings so that both monitors are treated as one very long monitor. Then you go into the launch options of Portal 2, and put in the following:

-w3840 -h1080

Chance the numbers so that -h is the height in pixels of your monitor, and -w is twice the width of one of your monitors, assuming they are the same size. The above example would be the launch options for two 1920x1080 monitors.

Now launch the game and there should be a resolution option for 3840x1080. Bam, you have the game on two screens, and if you could enable vertical splitscreen, then each screen would be on its own monitor. I did this for L4D and it works almost perfectly; it should work for Portal 2, although it's useless without a splitscreen option.

It takes little to no time to implement, since the code is already there from the console versions, and if you don't want to use it then you don't have to. I don't understand why they wouldn't leave it in the console, at least, like in L4D.

Uhm guys ? splitscreen_config.txt in portal 2 directory ?

You got ninja'd. That definitely means good things, but for all we know it isn't accessible from console. I feel like if this were an official feature, they would have mentioned it by now. It will most likely be like splitscreen in L4D: ♥♥♥-backwards and annoying.
