View Full Version : THERE IS NO DISC IN THE DRIVE!!

ngwoo

Yes Battlefield. I know there is no disk in the drive. I bought the Steam version of the game. And while I appreciate the fact you're reminding me, don't make my game crash to do so.

Windows 7 64-bit
All drivers up to date
Verified integrity of GCF's, just fine

Error occurs randomly during single player.

I have that with left 4 dead 2 on steam, and the support couldn't figure out what it was happening either.
It goes away after a while (for me it did with l4d2 anyway).

So waiting is the solution?

Well I did buy the game on Steam after all. Shouldn't be an issue, I've been practising.

" There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\dharddisk1\dr1."

Verify the integrity of your cache again. This problem is something I've been hearing about recently. Do you know if any other application is reading or writing to your hard-disk heavily? (IE: Are you downloading other steam games?)

What is the speed of your hard disk?

Try restarting steam and verify game files.

I'm getting the same error - however mine's random. It can happen when I'm exiting out of a multiplayer game, when I've just started one, when I'm on the main menu of the game, it's a wonderful bug and no matter what I do, Cancel, Try Again, or Continue, it crashes.

AWESOME. >:(

BFBC2Game.exe - No Disk

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk5\DR5.

Does your error look anything like this? Scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it. Only in multiplayer so far. Beneath the message are options to Cancel, Try Again, or Continue. Needless to say, all three do the same thing: present the error message again and again until the game finally crashes.

Drinkalot
03-03-2010, 11:34 PM
just a possible option, the game didn't have access to the location of the game files on your hard drive. maybe you should try excluding the folder in your anti virus, or do a scan to see if you have a failing hard drive.

LOL! I was thinking this was an error exclusive with Bioschock as it's happened to me a few times. Must be a steam thing...

Joined a game, booted because server switched to gamemode that had less player count. Refreshed browser, crashed. Tried again, crashed because I didn't have a Disk in the drive??? I have steam, why would there be a disk in the drive? This game is severely unpolished and needs ALOT of work. I will come back in 3 weeks to see if this crap is fixed but I feel like I just wasted money.

sorry bro game sucks get over it

Dice needs to learn how to properly beta a game. Hell, the damn beta ran better than this. It's amazing how the beta managed to reverse the outcome of this game.

Dice needs to issue refunds right now. I paid for a game that I could play. I dislike having to play Russian roulette with the server browser.

Hell, the damn beta ran better than this.

Not really, the beta was poorly optimized and frankly made the game seem a lot worse than it is. The only real problem right now is the server browser, which was worse in beta due to not having friendslist and ♥♥♥♥ just not working.

Dice needs to issue refunds right now.

Not liking a game does not entitle you to a refund.

Same here. Just bought the game, it's next to impossible for me to join a game. I mean, I live on the East Coast so it's not even like I'm just far away from any decent servers either. Thing's bugged.

Apparently, nearly 1 out of 10 times you die in Single Player in BC2, there will be a "No Disk in Drive" error. Quite annoying.

God Steam... you guys are PRO! Oh so PRO.

SP mode, funniest dialog I've ever heard. Something about "giving the mission to those Spec Op losers who use heart beat sensors!" Not word for word, but man.. LOL, that's not a gab at IW at all! :P

My last three games ended the same way. My computer beeping and a message telling me that BC2 hasn't found my CD. Then the game shuts down. Each time I got a good half way through the match before it did this.

I bought this on steam of course and my PB is up to date FYI.

davep
03-07-2010, 09:01 PM
uh? no game on Steam requires a CD, ever. Did you download the pirated version and replace the steam files with that or something? Because the exe for retail and the steam one are different.

ZoSo
03-07-2010, 09:02 PM
Did you purchase through Steam? You didn't say if you did or not. If you simply added BC2 to your Steam Games then yes you need the CD.

But did you download the full game through steam or do what some people did which they downloaded the pirated version and then started downloading on steam a little and then replaced the steam files with the pirated version ones.

Actually I didn't, either way this problem is pretty annoying. My screen turns black and I can hear everything (tanks and guns) I have to alt tab to do anything and the a box comes up saying bfbc2 couldn't locate my disk.

You either pirated the game or you have a driver issue/OC issue.

Governor Turtle
03-07-2010, 09:12 PM
I didn't do that pirated thing. Had it download right off steam.

linfosoma

I have the steam version and had this error once too. He's not a pirate, just having issues with Securom which is also present on the Steam version.

I haven't found a solution, I keep getting this error asking me to change the date on my PC even though it's fine, somehow I feel it's related.

2 Questions:

1) what OS are you using
2) are you using a beta client of Steam

I had the 196.75 nvidia drivers but apparently it fried some peoples GPUs so I went back to the previous drivers (just like they tell people on their site)

Please show me any proof of someone "frying" their GPU with a driver. I have never seen that happen by driver alone in 15 years of PC gaming.

On NVIDIA's site it says 195.75 caused low performance on some cards, but it boosted my GTX 295 by 30-40%

It boosted my GTX 295s performance too, but in rare occasions it stops your fan and your card dies. Not worth it to me.

I just had this happen as well. I quit the game and it asks for me to put the BC2 Disk in. The title of the box is BFBC2Game.exe - No Disk. I purchased the game legally from Steam, and downloaded it on 2 March, and played it for the first time on 8 March. It's not super annoying, but hopefully it will be fixed in the next few updates. :)

Essential Information...
-Bought the game legally on Steam
-Downloaded the game from Steam servers
-Steam is in not in 'Beta Participation mode'
-OS: Microsoft Vista Ultimate 64

Despite my feeling of irrelevance for this information, here's specs
-790i Ultra SLI Board(EVGA)
-Nvidia 9800 GX2 cards running 196.21 (EVGA)
-8gb of Patriot Ram 2000mhz PC16000 (Running at 1778mhz)
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83 ghz
-WD 1TB drive SATA 3.0

It has, it broke the automatic fan control when the video card gets hot. They won't admit it because then they will have a huge lawsuit on their hands as a lot of people have to buy new video cards now.

i believe its highly possible

this happened to my buddy with some older drivers

the bug was when the computer would go into screensaver the gpu would max out for some reason and the fan would stop, oh course you wouldnt be aware of what was happening and your card would just cook

The driver was broken causing the fan not to speed up hence overheating the card and breaking it.
Why do you think nivida pulled them off there site.

I think however DICE removed the Securerom DVD protection from the steam exe, they didn't do it properly. I haven't had this issue, but you should contact EA support about this.

I must've misplaced the NONEXISTANT disc again?

This is really annoying when you're having a great run and then can't get your score because of such an, excuse me, IDIOTIC, thing. EA, if you're selling games over steam with no discs, make them ♥♥♥♥ing work without? Or is that expected too much from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game companies that dominate the market today. A quick buck from the PC idiots with bad console ports and thank you!! F. U. Enough with those ♥♥♥♥ing ripoffs!

i had the same problem a few times, its rare, and usually occurred when i closed the game. Its just like that thing source games had when you closed them and they said they stopped responding and has to close, you just have to ignore it, unless its constant, then post on the ea forums.

I sent an error report to Securom (yes, the Steam version has that) and they claimed that the error report file was fine; however, Im still asked to reset the date and time of my PC each time I launch the game and I had the "No disk in drive" error once.

Still love the game though :p

I bought BFBC2 off steam. After installing it when i tried to load the game it gets 5 seconds into the first screen and it crashes saying:

" There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \device\harddisk1\dr1."

Again, I downaloaded the game off steam.
- Iv tried reinstalling the game.. multiple times (yes i deleted the files)
- Iv tried reinstalling Steam

**** I have installed the game seperatly from a disk my friend bought (retail) and the game works fine. What i want is to launch the game off steam without it crashing on me.******

Can any1 help?? or has anyone else had this problem?

The question I then if the driver is not running fast enough, is the only solution to replace the drive? This is the only game I have this issue with.

Also what is the best way to check the speed of your drive?

My son's Steam Account was receiving this error when trying to start his game as well. I just downloaded and "REPAIRED" the steam client and verified his games and it worked perfect.

Might try re-downloading the Steam Client, selecting "REPAIR" and letting is repair and fully update. Then verify the games. Worked for me! Hope this helps. :D
