i dont see why you would want to use them for in game actions, would sorta remove your hand from the keyboard while reaching for your head. Most i use the buttons for it to go to next track, previous track, talk in vent, mute vent, use the voice morpher to talk like a little kid, stuff like that.

Is Setpoint installed and running with the BC2.exe added to the game detection? The autodetect isn't 100% reliable. Or you could just add steam.exe I guess.

when your trying to bind your mouse buttons are you in the keyboard column? cuz you need to be in the mouse column for it to recognize anything from the mouse.

works just fine with my g7 and g9.

I have found that if I remove the keyboard/joystick assignments for the 5 functions I want to assign to my mouse, then the mouse works fine!

I agree this has to be the problem. Both buttons work perfectly on my G5 (for beta they did too). I'm using Windows 7 64bit, just plug-n-play NO mouse software.

What. Are you. Talking about?

That was so random it made me type like Shatner!

In other news: with or without SetPoint installed, my G500 side buttons work just fine. I haven't tried my G5, it's on my work computer. They're pretty much the same, though.

I rely heavily on my mouse side buttons. Nades and crouching. It is used.

Try the G5 WITHOUT the software installed!

Or....Install Uberoptions (http://uberoptions.net/) for Setpoint.

It unlocks all the button on the G5 in Setpoint for any application, anytime.
Its rather great.

sounds like a cool app.

Just for the record, the G5 is plug-n-play and doesn't require any software at all (because software usually screws up one game or the other). Logitech's decision to make it plug-n-play was to ensure it works for all games (or at least has the best chance to).

Hang on, so those of you who have the sidebuttons on the G5 working, it is working without assigning a keystroke to the button, just leaving it as the "generic button" (i.e. it shows Mouse4 or something when you assign it in game?)

I really like Setpoint for configuring the G5 for different applications. With BC2 added and the side buttons (in setpoint) assigned to random keys on the numberpad, I just set them in game by pressing the side buttons when prompted for a key.

Same as I do for everything.

Are you running Steam as administrator so you get pings showing in the server browser?

If so, your buttons probably won't work.

I have the older G5 with one button that I have mapped for melee and had been using without problem since the beta. Monday night a friend told me about running Steam as admin to get the pings to show, which I tried and it worked.

When I was in game I noticed the button not working and thought my Setpoint lost its mapping.

When I came out of the game I checked and it still had it mapped and I could get it to put the keystroke in Notepad. If I opened a chat with a friend on Steam and hit the button it wouldn't put anything there.

I closed Steam and removed the checkmark for Run as Administrator and opened a chat window again and it was taking the keystroke.

The knife worked again in the game and I was happy.

I would rather have a working knife(and voice chat in L4D/L4D2/TF2) than see the pings for a lot of servers I won't be playing on.

In the early 2000's when the 'FPS Gaming Mouse' started to be sold, a lot of games back then had trouble registering button presses because of Logitech's SetPoint Software (not all games, but quite a few)....THAT'S when Logitech started making all their mice 'plug-n-play' (and left it OPTIONAL for the user to install the software).

Buy their mouse, just plug it in...and it works.

were you able to use the middle thumb button in game without assigning it a keyboard key or key combo? i use it as my dedicated teamspeak PTT so not a big deal.

my g5 and now my g500 both work fine in the game using the side buttons.

for my g5 i never used the game detection, always seemed to screw things up and leaving it off always allowed me to assign whatever i wanted to those buttons in whatever game i was playing.

g500 is a pretty hefty upgrade over my g5, i was impressed, didn't think it'd be worth while.

Good theory, I guess. But that can't be it. I run Steam and BFBC2 as admin, and my side buttons work just fine.

I was going to ask this. This is the most common problem, trying to assign the buttons to other functions, in the game it has trouble recognizing different assignments. Every game I play works fine with mine with generic buttons, but I haven't tried it with this game.

I don't know if this helps.

I use Setpoint with Uberoptions for MX revolution mouse. BFBC2 didn't allow me to use all my 9 (?) buttons when I ran BFBC2 as an admin. To solve it, I also had to run Setpoint.exe as an admin and now I can use all of them.

Same thing for G13 keyboard. Ran that profiler thing as an admin as well to solve some buttons not working correctly.

So far, any keyboard and mouse button binding issues that I had was solve this way. Try and see if that works for you.

Yeah, I've never had any problems using the side buttons as generic buttons until BC2. I got around it by assigning keystrokes (which I would rather not do), but if people are actually getting it to work without using keystroke assignments, I would like to know how.

SetPoint starts with Windows. I don't remember telling it specifically to run as admin.

I'm also on Win7 64-bit.

If running Steam as admin SetPoint also needs to run as admin. To do this, find the setpoint executable, right click it, go to properties, go to compatibility, and set Run as admin.

Alternatively you can do what I did... set the mouse buttons to F2-Fwhatever and then bind them as key presses in the game. I have my G5 working this way, including having right scrollwheel as melee, left scrollwheel as reload, side buttons as iron sights and run, and the sensitivity buttons as Teamspeak3 functions and enter/leave vehicle. UberOptions is nice, but not necessary for this to work.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Nope. I just checked and SetPoint is not set to run as admin. Steam and BFBC2 are, though. :p

I was going to post this exact same problem as the OP earlier. Historically I use the middle tilt button for rifle and next kit or whatever, they worked in the Beta no probs but stopped in the retail game.
It just didn't want to know Page up, Page down and Home as keystroke assignments as it had always done, so I changed them to normal letters on the kb that I don't use. Seemed to work, but that settings menu is the worst I've come across for changing keys.

When it comes to mice, I'll never use anything other than Logitech. Here's why:

I bought an Mx510 in early 2005, right before I deployed. The left button quit working properly on Friday, I was supposed to leave on Tuesday.

I called Logitech support that Friday night and the guy got all of my information. He told me to hold on to the jacked up mouse so I could at least have limited use. He then told me the new one was on the way. I got the new mouse Monday morning. It was the fastest support I've ever gotten from anyone.

My only other encounter with Logitech support was for my G5. The feet had worn down, so it was scraping my mouse surface. I tried to order new feet but the online system wouldn't let me. I called support and they mailed me replacement feet at no charge. Got them three days after the call.

They seem to really care about customer support. So I recommend their products to everyone to support that support.

I have; on various PCs for myself, my wife, and my kids; an Mx 518, that old Mx510 from 2005, an Mx 1000 at work, a G5 at work, my G500 for my main PC, an MK300 wireless set for my media center PC, two Mx 300s for the kids...

So that's around $500 in Logitech mice just for me. That doesn't count my parents and other relatives that I've gotten to buy Logitech mice. I'm also responsible for procuring things like mice, keyboards, and headsets for my unit. Guess what: Logitech optical mice and Logitech stereo headsets (we actually use TS and Ventrilo in our TOC) for everyone.
