Gyromancer has 2 options, fullscreen or windowed at 16:9 or 4:3

Windowed 16:9 runs at 1280 x 720
Windowed 4:3 runs at 800 x 600

The problematic part is the full screen. Here you have 3 options.

Good option: any 16:9 resolution (1920 x 1080, 1360 x 768, 1280 x 720)
The game will run in full screen at 1280 x 720 with a correct aspect ratio.

Good option: any 4:3 or 5:4 resolution (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600)
The game will run in full screen at 800 x 600 with a correct aspect ratio.

Bad option: all 16:10 resolutions and most other (1920 x 1200, 1680 x 1050, 1440 x 900, 1280 x 768)
The game will run in full screen at 1280 x 960 with a wrong aspect ratio (squished) and some small horizontal black bars. The visual information is identical to 16:9.

Fixes for 16:10
- bad fix: use the windowed 16:9 mode (bad since you have to play in a window)
- bad fix: set your monitor to fully stretch the pictures (override aspect ratio). The game will look almost as it should, but any screenshots will still look compressed and letterboxed.
- good fix: change your resolution before entering the game to a 16:9 or 4:3 resolution (someone with a 1920x1200 monitor should change to 1920x1080 or 1280x720)

Note, use of alt tab will cause a few icons to turn black until you restart the game.

Exactly how is it a good option to run ANY game in 800 x 600 full screen? Especially when the game has the potential to run in 1280?

Good in the sense that the image doesn't get screwed (wrong AR).

In case you have a 4:3 display that only does 1024 x 768 (can't do 720p). Might also be preferable with any 4:3 display.
