Yes I am aware of the other threads, but they didn't help.
I've already tried two suggestions. The one that came the closest to working was to replace the ini file with this:
Include Setup\Locale.zip
DrawDll Render3DFX.dll
//DrawDll renderd3d.dll
DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll
SoundDll Sound.dll
ScriptDll GSC.dll
LocaleDLL Locale.dll
Resolution 1440x900
ColorDepth 32
Anisotropy 2
AntiAlias
DisableLight
ShadowDetail 2
TextureResolution 0
DisableDXT
DisablePAL
Window
With this ini file, I'm AT LEAST able to navigate the menu a bit. But it still crashes before I can actually play the game.
Please help.
P.S. Despite my undying love for steam, I'm starting to find it a little frustrating how a good number of games I buy from them often come with an assortment of problems that I have to look into before actually being able to play. It would make sense to me for the professional parties involved to release a patch to fix these obvious problems. But I guess when it comes to nostalgia gaming, they're too busy working on the front lines with newer games. We old school gamers are left to our own devices.....

I had this same problem, I had to set the affinity for Hitman to only use a single core on my processor to stop the problem.

how the crap do you do that??

task manager. run hitman and Ctrl+Alt+Del, look in the process tab for hitman.exe and right click, set the affinity to the first core only.

K, we're making progress. But it's still not crystal clear. When the 'affinity' window pops up, it gives me 9 different options.
All processes
cpu 0
cpu 1
cpu 2
cpu 3
cpu 4
cpu 5
cpu 6
cpu 7
They're currently all selected.
Are you telling me to deselect them all except cpu 0?

Uncheck "<All Processors>", then select just one core (any core will do).
*EDIT*
Alternatively - if you know how to use a command prompt - search on Google for 'imagecfg', and download from (what should be) the first link (robpol86.com). Save it in the same directory as your Hitman executable (or in your System32 directory), and open CMD. Change to the location of your Hitman executable, and run the following command.
imagecfg -u hitman.exe
You may also have to run the following command:
imagecfg -u runme.exe
But I'm not sure about that last one. Still, it shouldn't hurt anything. Change Steam to *NOT* keep your game up to date (no updates at this point, anyway), then launch the game. It will automatically run on a single core, now.

sigh....
Well, the cpu/core thing didn't work.
I'm now looking at Jito's second suggestion, but since I'm basically computer illiterate, it's very daunting to go through all that stuff....
If nobody has any other simple suggestions, then I'll just have to drive up the nerve to do that. But even then, I'm losing faith since every suggestion I've been given on this forum hasn't worked so far. Though, I do appreciate one's willingness to help a fellow gamer.
Is this just a curse of windows7? Doesn't microsoft have anything better to do than to remake the same crappy operating system over and over???

Actually, Windows 7 has been the smoothest Microsoft launch ever, and I've seen a lot of them over the years (going clear back to Windows 3.11, prior to that I was on a Commodore Amiga).
I haven't tried running the game since before I installed Windows 7, but I'll pop it open and see if I can replicate the issue myself.
*EDIT*
Aside from a slight graphical glitch in the opening movies (which was fixed by exiting and reopening the game), it played fine. I ran the tutorial level, and got to the shooting gallery before I exited. Not sure what to tell you.

now what?

I previously contacted Eidos customer service and they explicitly told me that codename 47 isn't made for windows 7, thus, if I want to get to the bottom of this problem, I have to go directly to microsoft.
Do I really want to bother going to microsoft? I already went to Steam (who sold me the game) and Eidos (I guess the company that supplied the game) and both those muther f*ckers blew me off, so what the hell makes anyone think microsoft is gonna give a rats ♥♥♥?? Especially since now YOU'RE telling me that it's working just fine on YOUR windows 7. So what's the difference between your windows 7 and mine?
Maybe I'm just a bad person....
I also tried running the game in compatability...whatever mode. But it doesn't actually do that for hitman. It just does it for steam, no matter how many times I click on the "hitman" icon on my desktop. I guess hitman and steam are the same thing....?????? (at least, that's what my computer thinks).
Besides, it initially gave me this huge warning saying to never run steam in compatability whatever mode. I guess it's blasphemy, yo.

What's your system specs? Perhaps there's a difference there that's making a difference. I'll post mine, as well. Hopefully you'll notice something that helps.
AMD PhenomII 955
8GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
AMD 790GX chipset (Gigabyte MA-790GP-DS4H)
Ati Radeon 4870 (10.2 catalyst drivers)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (2.15.0004.4 drivers modified by Daniel_K)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Would it be enough for me to say I have the M15X alienware laptop right out of the box?
It's with the base 512mg video card, not the 1 gig upgrade.

Not sure if it will help, but check this post on the Eidos forum:

I checked the forum. Well...it's good to have more ideas. Like I said, it's a little daunting to continue to devote time and energy to trying to make a simple game work, but oh well. I'll drive up the nerve to experiment with some of the ideas and I appreciate your willingness to help. I'll be sure to check it out and report my findings to you. Why you? Well...why not? You're continuing to help me, so now you're my guidance counsiler.
You know Jito, with everything we've been through together in the last little while, I feel like we're friends. And since we're friends, I feel like I can be honest with you. You ready for my honesty?
I feel like I'm on a pointless wild goose chase that's going nowhere.
There I said it.

Good news yall. Ever since the new steam came out (which was a ♥♥♥♥♥ to install) I've been able to open up the hitman configuration and I changed the renderer from Direct3D to openGL and so far, so good. I've been able to actually START the game. I haven't really gotten into playing it yet, but here's hoping there's no more snags.
Thanks Jito and everyone else who took an interest in helping me. I'll be sure to come back crying if I have anymore problems or emmotional issues.

Maybe its cause the ini specifies two rendering engines at once.
add // infront of either drawdll renderopengl.dll, or drawdll render3dfx.dll
