I get a thing about missing files(General protection fault then lists the exe file it can't find in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\borderlands\binaries\ Borderlands.exe) though I just installed it. I also get an error from Microsoft Visual C++ that says:
Runtime Error! Program Files (x86)\...
R6025
-pure virtual function call

Anyone got a fix for this. Just got a new desktop. Running Windows 7 Professional 64bit edition.

You have a corrupted install.

try verifying the game files. This should replace the missing files.

Right click the game. goto properties. Click the local files tab. Click "verify integrity of game cache".

This process could take several minutes depending on your systems speed.

Just bought the game on the weekend deal (4.2.2010) and getting the same error.

Tried verifing the game cache and reinstalling the game with no luck. Also updated directx and the DC++ redistribution and installed all the windows updates.

Googled some and found a large thread over at gearboxs' official forums about the issue, but no one seemed to have a definitive solution.

Running Windows 7 home premium 64bit.

I am getting an even weirder thing. I get the 'Preparing to launch Borderlands...' box, which then closes, the Borderlands program thing appears in my taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and nothing happens, no splash screen, nothing. Task Manager says it's not responding, Process Manager shows borderlands.exe happily burbling along. I'm running XP SP3. I don't think it has anything to do with video card since I can't even get a splash screen.

I managed to get to the menu a few minutes ago. After restarting steam several times, it happened after I had defragmented the game files and verified the integrity of the files and then immediately restarted Steam. But I'm back to the same error.

Not close to what problem you're having though. Thats even weirder.

I've verified and defragmented and restarted Steam, and I still get the same problem. It appears in the taskbar, cannot be selected, and is "Not Responding".
