Tried deleting authkey and launching the game - Invalid.
Tried switching Steam users in a session - Invalid.

Im pissed off I cant pay a game I legally payed for. I REALLY REALLY want to have a nice 6 player game, but I cant because as the key is invalid, the game downgrades to the demo.

Would this have anything with that I have DEFCON installed on another computer through Steam? That one worked fine I must say, but ultimately this one does not. Also it said before that this Steam account was being used elsewhere (which is obvious bullcrap).

Any thing I haven't tried? Thanks.

GOT IT WORKING

Ok I did 2 things, not sure which one did it: Deleted everything in the defcon folder except for the folder itself, uninstall from Steam then reinstalled it. I also changed my password. Its working now (finally).

None of the 'fixes' have worked for me.

Try it again and again, you might get it.

Doing "Change user" in Steam and logging in again fixed the issue for me both at work and at home.

Also, pro-tip: Don't play the Steam version of the game. No, I'm not suggesting that you go out and re-buy DEFCON, though you can if you want to. Download the demo from Introversion's site, install, copy the authkey file into the non-Steam DEFCON program folder (C:\Program Files\DEFCON\ on Windows XP.)

Disclaimer, of course: This method is probably not crash-hot with Valve or Introversion. If sticks ducks up, it's not my fault! You may also have to re-create and re-copy the authkey file every now and then.

And, before you ask, if you can't see the authkey file, it's either hidden, or you haven't successfully authenticated the Steam version yet. Yes, you do need to do that to generate the authkey file, but once is enough!

I have this issue too. I can empathize with the original poster's frustration.

We believe we have fixed the Steam Authentication problem experienced by many players, resulting in them being incorrectly classified as demo users. Could Steam users please test the game, verify it works, and lets us know via the forums if your problem is solved.

If you delete your authkey file in the steam defcon folder, you will force Defcon to re-authenticate you from scratch.

Please accept our apologies - we are working hard to resolve this issue.

Doesn't work for me, and I've tied deleting the file.
