I just bought this game and 2 of my friends did as well. There is a bit of scare that the activation process won't work, but they are unfounded from what I have seen. All 3 of us activated both products and played LAN and multi player just fine. The Anno series are some of the best RTS games ever made. I have 1701 GOLD and Dawn of Discovery GOLD on my steam account and cannot get enough.

Thinking of buying it? Go for it!

Note: Only bad thing is that if a new one comes out by Ubisoft with their new draconian style DRM I won't buy it :(

Game is awesome.

I was interested in The Settlers 7 but Ubifail's new cloud drm killed any interest I had in it.

I was going to get this game, but Ubisoft's new DRM crap is really making me want to not buy -any- of their games, wether they have it or not. Plus all the horrors of not being able to activate this game. Bleh.

It's ok, I've played the beta for Settlers 7 and this game is still better.

The game activated after I reallized the following. I purchased the DOD Gold. I checked the Serial Numbers or Product Keys on both Dawn of Discovery and DOD:Venice. They are clearly different keys. To play DOD, you right click on DOD:Venice and Click Play DOD. If you click on DOD and click play, it always launches DOD:Venice. No worries, Settlers did that too. However, DOD tried to activate with DOD:Venice Product Key, no go of course.

Everything worked as expected. The issue is on Steam where you launch DOD, it was using DOD:Venice Key, and of course that will not work for activation.

Regards, cisguy.

I have a question about LAN games. i currently have a copy of DoD but am debating if i want to buy Venice or not, all relying on the LAN capability. now i know with all games in the past you can play LAN with only one copy of the actual game and i would like to ask if that is true with DoD Venice? if you would know of this please let me know.

You can play lan with several PC's with one steam copy of the game. You just have to go into offline mode in the other PC's.
