Just a quick Q. Is this $2.50 for EQ and ALL expansions +30 day account (new accounts)

I just purchased this, and I'm confused.

It said EverQuest with 15 expansions, however on my Steam list I only see EverQuest: Secrets of Faydwer, and EverQuest: Seeds of Destruction. I guess the rest is included within those two?

They shouldn't all be on your steam list, since it's all basically the same game. When you log into it they should update and be there

Yeah I'm confused too. I thought it included all games, not just 2.

Okay cool, thanks.

Any difference between Secrets of Faydwer and Seeds of Destruction? They're both the same size installed, so I'm suspecting they're the same thing essentially?

This old game still require a monthly fee? If it was free to play, which i dont think is too much to ask for such an ancient game, 2 bucks would be worth it.

Yeah this is my problem, this game is very very old. Oldergames like this should really adopt a f2p structure.

This and FFXi I don't understand how they continue to charge monthly and are able to make a profit. I guess it's expansions making them the money.

Even if it is "ancient". There are people who have jobs which support the game, update it, and make sure the servers don't explode. Good things are not free. If you want that, go play Maple Story.

Here is something to thing about for some of you who are considering buying it and playing just for a month. They already have a free trial up to character level 10. How long would that take you to finish? I honestly don't know.

Eh.. a bit annoyed. Bought it with the intention to play it just for the 30 free days. I did an everquest trial over a year ago and apparently that prevents me from getting the free days.

Don't use your old Sony account maybe?

Seems you have to setup a billing plan to get the first 30 days?

I don't like to hand out my credit card before i want to pay for it.

You can just cancel the sub before the 30 days are over.

As written on the Sony Online Entertainment Knowledge Base:

"Note that purchasers of the full game will receive their free month of game play after supplying valid billing information. If you cancel your subscription during the free month, no charges will be made to your credit card, and 30 days after activation of the account it will be closed until reactivated."

I'm going to start from lvl 1. Or actually, I did. I'm lvl 5 now. Waiting for more Steamers to head this way! C'mon, I want to do that group Arachnid-quest!

ther reason you see two expansions (i Believe) is becuase after so long SOny packages the lastest Expansion with all prevouis content included. Hence you get everything but the lastest Exp in the $2.50 deal.

As a true original EQ junkie (but havent played in 5 years (just looked, amazing!)) i hate to say this. Most people who havent played EQ and grew up on all the games the looked at EQ , borrowed from EQ and improved the bad parts of EQ.... EQ is not going to be a game they enjoy.

EQ was made when RPG's took weeks to win instead of days, when gearscore and websites didnt tell you every piece of gear and where to get it. When the really good stuff had lines (nejena flashback... ow ow ow, think happy thoughts, think happy thouhgts) going from 1 to 60 (original max level) took a year... not a week. When going into an instance.. err wait, other groups where in the dungoen with you.... it wasnt all about "you" it was about planning, working with ohter guids. Gear wasnt just hitting the instacne 10 times gettign your crap and then being bored of it.. it was about camping a spawn, hoeping hte trash mob didnt pop, hoping that damn frog king had the crown and not that damn sword again. Setting a weekend up so you knew you could be in one spot for 20 hours straight and finding people silly enouhg to do it with you (actually pretty good times, lots of banter going on).

it was a good game for its day, i keep hearing its been WoWized... funny, Wow was a copy of EQ, now EQ is copying WoW (that staement was a generlization... and Im old enouhg to remeber the original Blizzard "first peaks" when they still mentioned EQ). So it would seem its easier then it was back int he uphill both ways days..

for $2.50 how can you go wrong?

Yes. They are two different games with little in common in terms of gameplay other than the lore of the gameworld and locations in common within it. Some players stuck to the original with its larger raids, characters they'd invested years in and gameplay they like while others and also new players since EQ2's launch went with the new game.

For this price and 30 days to see this classic history making game you just cannot go wrong. The newbie area today is good looking and fun to play though. The mix of classes to choose from is varied with something fun for anyone. If you like this kind of game in general and never saw the original EverQuest you owe it to yourself to grab it so cheap and take a 30 day run through the lowbie content for fun.

I played this game for maybe 8 years in total and really enjoyed it with many fond memories made. Today I like to play EQ2 as well as WoW sometimes. EQ2 is similar to WoW in many ways but with the world and storylines of the original EverQuest recreated.

Mm, I remember those times... :) Ah, the good old-school EQ. However, I was pretty shocked when I came back after 8 years, this game is so different. I'd say it's a lot more forgiving and user friendly. Giving my thumbs up!

Google for Station Launcher - it will be the first hit on the page.

Download and install it.

Run it and point it to your EverQuest install which I assume is within Steam\Steamapps\Common\EverQuest or something similar.

Good to go.

This is the simplest way to run the full installed game without a bad streaming launcher that takes forever to load the game, load new areas, etc. The trade off is that this game has grown to a good size (I would guess maybe 8 to 10 gigs) and Station Launcher will download all of it up front. Depending on your connection speed you may want to do this just before bedtime and be all set the following morning. Station Launcher will give you an estimated time and download speed once it starts downloading.

Enjoy!

EQ1 is still a great game, but its population is top heavy level-wise and will be until a new progression server is begun, if ever. I have found that the people I met at low levels in the last few years all vanished mysteriously. If you can get a friend to start out with you, you should have a blast.

EQ2 is one of the best games I've ever played, but EQ1 is very different and I prefer it. EQ2 is what a lot of people call a "WoW clone," which really just means it drew on Anarchy Online & Asheron's Call 2 for some of the basics. You've got your global cooldowns, your chain attacks, a whole lot of hotbars available to you at once, skill trees, endgame alternate advancement, node gathering, crafting cooldowns, quest guidance.

EQ1 by contrast still requires you to choose a small number of abilities for use in an encounter (meditation, similar to what you may remember from Guild Wars), few options for in-combat recovery of HP and mana, no radar (but a wonderful map system), not much in the way of quest help, and a somewhat baffling crafting system. This doesn't necessarily mean it's more difficult, since much of the punishment has been removed over the years. In a way it can be kind of trivial by comparison.

Personally I started playing just a few years ago, because I wanted to see the world before it gets deleted. It's a pretty good fantasy world. The dungeons in particular are often deep and full of nasty traps. Enjoy it while you can.

I have written to SOE customer service in the past and got my trial periods reset when I was unable to use them. It's worth a try; they are just people. Don't deny yourself something you may enjoy just for spite's sake.

I would suggest that you simply create a new station account and do so with a new dummy email address, get one on yahoo, hotmail, gmail or whatever. That provides you a fresh account to register the new game to and play on.

If you wanted to play existent characters on the other hand, welcome to the club as paying subscribers for years do not get free time on new expansion purchases to an account that ever carried a sub.

However, if you just want some fun for 30 days do try my above suggestion. It is simple and just worked fine for me.

Oh god. Please don't make me re-up that one too. EQ is bad enough without craptons of spreadsheets and calculators.

I'm such an addict.
