It's too small.
I'm starting to come around to the idea that it isn't the gunship that is the problem. There are some other things limiting the stratigic depth of the game. I already posted about the tech tree over at gamerrplays. I think Map size also has a lot to do with it. the maps are too small. there is no need for out posts. And no room for out posts. More importantly there is nowhere you can set up a proxy base to open a second front, or get a stealth move into the back of some ones base.

Since there are no out posts, there is nothing to raid. If there is nothing to raid there is no need in the game for raiders. Which means every unit must be able to fight a main army or a main base to be relevant. Which means that the only target gunships have, is bases and armies. If they can't fight tower and mobile AA they can't fight anything.

(I might prefer a game with land OP, instead of air.)

Larger the map the more air units will be used. That does include transports.

But i agree that the maps are a bit small at the moment.

that's the whole point, if the map is big enough air is still useful even if it can't fight ground.

Air becomes more useful on larger maps, as its faster than ground.
